I saw some good reviews of this guitar on another channel and was glad to see yours as well. Your style of playing is more meaningful to me than those who "shred," as I play slowly without many effects. When I am able, the Reverend Airwave Electric 12 is the way I will go. Thank you so much for this informative review!

I feel that, my greatest issue with guitar and effects reviews is that the players styles are so radically different from mine.

That looks and sounds great - it has a retro American 1960's vibe which is cool. I hate restringing my guitars so a 12 string is out for me. I have a patch on a Roland GR55 which scratches my itch for a 12 string tone. Worth $1200 IMHO.

I've had a Reverend gold-top Charger 290 for about a decade, and the 2 P-90s in mine are very, very quiet. Reverend makes some really nice guitars, and that 12-string is no exception. Loved the tones you were getting. And the asym body shapes of Reverends are pretty sharp IMO.

I used to own a Revelation RJT60/12, sounded exactly like this and it had a tremolo bridge of all things, I only sold it when I made my own 12 Electric from a kit on eBay, by the way those bridges are great, if your wondering how they are strung, 6 strings go through the body and 6 through the bridge back, the Revelation obviously had 6 through the trem block

I have this guitar and really love it. I came with 10 gauge strings, I switched out to 9s....much easier to play and sounds better in my opinion. EASY to change strings too. This is a workhorse, and I have no fear of playing out with it like one might have with an expensive Rickenbacker. This is much nicer than the cheaper Dean and similar 12-string electrics...go for it!
@wavemanmav9073
@wavemanmav9073 2 года назад
Do you find that the 9 gauge strings make it much easier to press down on the strings? I have this guitar with the stock strings, and I find it hard to put enough pressure to ring out all the strings. I have no problem with my 6 string guitars, but this feels so much more resistant.

Great review and sweet looking and sounding guitar. It would be great to have this lay down some ambient swells with some baritone solo action happening over the top. I really like your lead phrasing which is apparent across all your reviews.

You don't need any chorus on it, both pickups position is gorgeous, both clean & overdriven - lovely looking guitar too, I'm green with envy. Ever try any different tunings with it?

From my 1990 Washburn acoustic-electric 12-string, I run it through a Zoom A3 chorus effect into the overdrive channel of my low-end Marshall amp and it sounds SO cool. So many cool experiments you can do with a 12-string. :-)

No doubt! I picked up a unique Reverend, the standard versions of which retail around 900, for just 700! Not only did I get exactly the pickups, electronics, and neck I'd wanted, but also got a flame top, satin translucent finish, and an ebony board. Not bad for 200 less.

Thanks for the review of the Headrush pedal board. That guitar you are playing sounds a bit muddy with no "shimmer" and very little high end. The Headrush pedal board made it sound suitably dense and good for shoegaze. Not sure if that's good for a 12-string, though.

Thanks for showing us this guitar. I've had my sights on getting exactly that kind of bridge for my current 12-string electric for a while. They're difficult to find. I was also thinking about getting a pair of Seymour Duncan P-Rail pickups (with the little switches added on) to replace the stock humbuckers in mine. Each P-Rail is a P-90 with a thin rail pickup combined to make a humbucker. The tonal options are awesome! Hearing the P-90s on yours makes me think I'm on the right track, although I would prefer a slightly brighter sound overall, especially on the neck. My 12 needs a LOT of work, so now I'm thinking it might just be cheaper overall to get an Airwave 12. I'm off to have a look at pricing and options. Thanks again!

What a lovely guitar Bill! I really need to get myself a 12 string as well! I got myself an Irish Bouzouki for last year's Christmas and I'm in love with the full sound of the paired strings. Also, the way it's tuned (ADAD) changed my view at playing the guitar and made me switch from E standard to "ADADAD" - the lowest A being the one on a 7-string in Drop A. I've seen that you're still hybrid picking on that 12 string, and I can't really fingerpick on my bouzouki. Do you got any advice on fingerpicking paired strings?
@chordsoforion
@chordsoforion 5 лет назад
for me, fingerpicking a 12 is a lot easier with a thumbpick. I can get more precision that way. As for the fingers, I like to grow my nails out just a bit, and this helps in the attack of the string pairs. Also, I love Irish bouzoukis. Definitely want to get one at some point!

These "double course" type of strings, can make a nice and natural reverb on the instrument, I realized when I recorded some lute in an isolated room, and I listened to recorded track. I felt it has some sort of reverb, and I didn't add any new reverbs on that sound. And a question, what happened to "ambient guitar highlights" series?

I have been looking for an electric 12-string. This one has made its way to the top of the list, but I am not a fan of chunky necks. I don't mind the width - that helps with the extra space you need to finger the chords. How chunky/non-chunky is the neck in terms of depth? Thanks :-)
@tlw4237
@tlw4237 4 года назад
For a pretty thin 12 string neck try a Danelectro. Once set up properly (mine needed some too shallow nut slots re-cutting and a neck shim, which seems the sort of work that’s pretty much essential on a lot of new guitars these days) they play pretty well and with a hint of fuzz or a resonant tuning such as DADGAD sound huge.

I know the skinny neck reference refers to Rics. But the tuning issues? Danelectro?
@chordsoforion
@chordsoforion 3 года назад
Actually the neck width issue is not specific to Ric. It's any 12-string (acoustic or electric) that has a neck width of less than 1.75". Which seems like it is more often than not. And the tuning issues and Danelectro? I don't know. I can say that the other electric 12s that I have owned over the years have had bridges with only 6 adjustable saddles instead of 12, which makes it very difficult to intonate.
@nellayema2455
@nellayema2455 2 года назад
@@chordsoforion I like the fact that the nut is 1 3/4". I had a '68 Epiphone Wilshire 12-string decades ago. The nut width was a bit small for my fingers down by the nut. The bridge only had 6 saddles, so intonation wasn't as good as it would be with 12 saddles. The mini-humbuckers it had sounded fantastic, though. I wish I hadn't sold it, especially since they're selling for over 10x what I sold it for back in the day!

I don’t know about “usually”, but certainly they’re used that way often. For instance, you’ll hear a lot of 12-string in the rhythm playing of Tom Petty, Susanna Hoffs of the Bangles, Paul Kantner of Jefferson Airplane and Chrissie Hynde of the Pretenders.

definitely no, I played this "thing", the build imho is inferior, you're much better off with a 12 string Hastöm Viking. De luxe if you look online you can get it for about the same prize as this guitar, sometimes they go over 1000, and... they don't need the Byrds in the backtrack.. think😉
