"I was born in 2004" The scariest line in the second episode

25:57 I agree, this part of the dynamic is refreshing. Ruby is often compared to Clara, but with 12Clara there was a power struggle. With 15Ruby, it's as if he's letting her drive his car. Ncuti has such a presence that he still feels like the doctor, older and wiser and in charge, while not pushing to be at the center of things

Space Babies definitely has a little bit of a jab at the ol' "pro-life" crowd as well I think. "It's illegal to turn the baby makers off, but they don't want to raise them so they're leaving them to die alone." And yes! The Doctor being scared of the Maestro really felt big. After so many years of Dalek invasions and Cybermen takeovers and kicking Davros in the balls, we're starting to encounter opponents that feel _really_ dangerous.

The best part about the Maestro episode is all the great Easter Eggs celebrating the behind-the-scenes creatives...the gentleman playing the piano at the beginning is the son of a composer of Original Who, the elderly lady playing piano was the costume mistress in late Original Who, even Murray Gold is playing the piano during Always A Twist. There is an actress named Susan Twist who is appearing in all the episodes (she was a crew member in the video message episode 1 and the cafeteria lady in episode 2) so it is fun to keep an eye out for her too.

Glad youre reacting to the new Who series! I didnt think much of Space Babies but really enjoyed The Devil's Chord! Loving Ncuti as well (not too sure about Ruby yet, I feel like we dont know much about her!) Also, did you notice the song "Theres Always a Twist at the End" is the same (or very similar) notes as The Giggle? I wonder if that will mean anything going forward and if we'll hear the Giggle again?!

Hi! :) Love your reactions! This may come from out of nowhere but if you ever do another movie again soon, I would really love to see your reaction and analysis of "The Sixth Sense" from 1999 if you haven't already seen it! Love from Sweden! :)

I'm pretty much on par with you for the reactions. I wasn't really a fan of the Space Babies. They were super creepy, not cute! The Devils Chord was amazing, I loved it from beginning to end.

Russell was having more fun than you think with the musical number. There's always a Twist at the end. Hint - check the end credits of E2. Meta!

Martha asks the butterfly question -- the Doctor mocks her as if he's never heard of the butterfly effect (later invokes _Back to the Future,_ which basically covers the same thing and mocks her again). Bill asks the butterfly question -- the Doctor mocks her by inventing a person who was there before they stepped on a butterfly. Ruby asks the butterfly question -- the Doctor mocks the possibility of stepping on a butterfly. Then she steps on a butterfly. Then he says he forgot to pull a switch to prevent this issue. Did he forget? Did it exist before that moment?

Its making a mockery out of the concept so if the butterfly effect is real the companions can let it go and just enjoy the moment. If the TARDIS always had the switch then its always been about making the companions comfortable in the past.

I had the same reaction to the Beetles. I enjoyed the episode a lot though. The two leads are killing it in this series.

Greatly enjoyed your reaction to these fun episodes. Agree with your assessment of Space Babies, it was fine and fun but talking babies have never really appealed to me. I especially liked The Devil's Chord episode and Maestro. Really looking forward to your take on the more recent episodes.

I keep wondering about Ncuti's choice to shout "Gone!: like that before explaining Gallifrey is gone. It seems odd. I still hate Space Babies and I love Devil's Chord.

I _hated_ Space Babies. Don't bet me wrong, I love the new cast, I think they're great, but talking babies is NEVER a good thing to include in media, not ever. And a snot monster?! Come on, now. I hated everything about that episode. That said, I did really like The Devil's Chord - I thought that was a really interesting extension of the Toymaker story, I thought the Maestro was well done, and as a huge fan of music I liked how it delved into the importance of music. The show has just been getting better since.

These are both terrible episodes, they feel like a mockery of the whole idea of doctor who

If Davies has some plan to explain why Doctor Who is now like a weird spin off version of the former show, many viewers will have given up caring by then. So far the stories seem weak, and amateurish. This episode seems like it's only purpose was to have a drag queen in the episode. Davies newfound interest in spreading the word of gay activism seems to be result of his late mid-life crises. Davies took a show that was interesting escapist entertainment for many, and changed it into a Doctor Who themed semi autobiographical series. A mid-life crises often results in the afflicted person searching for ways to relive their youth. It likely would have been more successful if were written ad an alternate universe Doctor Who.

He not only has bosses at the BBC, but also at Bad Wolf Productions, AND at Disney to appease. Believe me, they aren't going to all just roll over and let RTD play out some mid-life crisis fantasy. If you only see the episode as an opportunity to feature a Drag Queen, then that's on you. Jinx Monsoon has become a Broadway icon of late, appearing as Mama Morton in Chicago, and now as Audrey in the Little Shop of Horrors. She's had a really successful tour across the US and parts of Europe, including the UK where RTD saw her perform. She is extremely musical, and that's what drew RTD to her. It absolutely makes sense to cast Jinx in the role of Maestro.
