I was in a production of this musical at my high school as plankton. One of the most fun experiences of my life. The production was incredible and all of the performances were genuinely exceptional. We actually got nominated for our local high school theater awards, the Freddys. It aired on Live TV and everything. Our patrick won best featured performance, we won featured ensemble, our spongebob won best lead actor, and we actually ended up winning best overall show. a best night of my life. This show is so dear to me and this video just encapsulates all me thoughts on it perfectly.

probably a lil biased here since i played squidward in my high school production of the musical, but this is legit one of the most clever, unique, and fun musicals i have ever seen/performed in its especially impressive how an idea that could have easily been nothing more than a cash-grab for nick turned into something genuinely entertaining with really good songs, its such a shame all ppl know it for is pointless celebrity drama :/ (if yk yk), not gonna stop me from enjoying it tho lol, glad u def did
This is kinda random, but I freaking love how in ALL human portrayals of Sandy that I've seen, She's ALWAYS been portrayed as Black/African. I've never considered her anything other than a squirrel, but her being black is so unique and actually fitting!!! It makes so much sense, because her OG Squirrel-self DOES experience racism while in Bikini Bottom, and so to translate her as an American minority in real life is really aptly decided!!!! And I love that her hairstyle pays homage to OG Sandy's air-dome 😂😂😆😆💖💖💖💖 OH MY GOSH THE CHARACTER OF HUMAN SANDY IN THIS PLAY SEEMS TO TAKE SO MUCH INSPIRATION FROM ROCKET SCIENTIST ANNIE EASLEY (A black woman herself!!!!!) WHICH I THINK ENRICHES THE CHARACTER SO MUCH MORE, THATS SO FREAKING COOL AND INSPIRING!!!!

This musical sparkles so many good memories and amazing emotions in me, it truly is unique. It captures perfectly Stephen Hillenburg's show and its spirit. The everything of it just makes you want to scream *wow!* at every second! The Spongebob musical is maybe not the best in the world but it's a clever, nolstagic, amazingly put together project and i am so glad that it exists. Sometimes the world can be sunshines and rainbows for a few hours This is my new favorite video tbh, btan's channel is a big vibe and they deserve way more views for their work!! I don't know why but it feels like if your older sibling was geeking out about their favorite show and sharing their toughts on it y'know heheh XD
Thank you so much! I love how the musical's goal isn't to reshape musicals or deconstruct the source material, it just wants to have fun and tell a nice, homemade story. It's like chicken noodle soup, you can't go wrong with it!

It's not ground breaking or anything but it's sparkly, fun and has this warm feeling attached to it who makes you want to get under a blanket and eat sweet hot chocolate till the sun shows up! I saw this musical back in 2020, like a week or two before covid shut everything down. I had begged my mom to go see it and she thought it could be fun for a highschool freshman, and I hadn’t really shared much of it with her before. At the theater most of the people there were season ticket holders I think, so most of them were really old people that had a younger kid with them to translate, as my mom puts it. It was so incredibly fun watching it in person, and while it wasn’t the Broadway cast, the tour cast did incredibly good. I used almost all of the money I had on the little merch cart they had in the lobby at intermission, and got like two shirts and a plush of gary. Afterwards my mom was so surprised at how good it was, and I’m so glad that I got to see it before lockdowns started. Honestly, it’s a little poetic in a sense that my “Childhood” ended with one of, if not the, favorite cartoons in my family. Even though it was a musical and at the time I had considered Modern Spongebob to be irredeemable or something, it was such a great and passionate production. My mom gave me a SpongeBob shirt when I moved out that’s older than I am. Anyway love the video, I love seeing people have the same passion I do for the musical :)

27:00 Dude, they missed the huge chance to make the electric skates the ACTUAL animal skates 😭😭😭😭 they're a smaller subspecies of stingray, which would have added to the layers of the show lol!!! They couldve had weird cape-sleeves to make them look like they had wing-fin things, and maybe their skin painted grey to look more like skates!!
Just a couple months ago, my middle school did this musical. Guess who took part in it? Me. I didn’t have a major role, and it was a shortened version of the original, yet I still love it! Let me be honest, the person who played squidward for my school’s show sung better than the original *_imo_* (he could even play clarinet, and he rocked at it.)
I saw this live when it first came out. I’m so happy people are talking about this musical in a good light cause it’s so good (I will say the Nick Tv version is ABSOLUTE shit IMO cause of the breaks and lack of a few songs). I fully mean it when I say this musical inspired me to make my own human designs of the cast and base parts of it off the show and the musical called The Super Sponge AU
Finding out they cut POOR PIRATES from the tv version genuinely broke a piece of my heart. And btw the inspiration is awesome! While researching for the video, there was an overwhelming amount of comments from the cast about fan works (like art, animatics, letters, etc) and how much they loved it. They talked about how they constantly would retweet fan stuff or just have a bunch of nice messages from fans in their dressing rooms. It's so cool how compassionate they are about the fans!
@@btanman FOR REAL POOR PIRATES SLAPS(I will say the cast recording does it best even the live show kinda flops). It warms my heart knowing the cast loved the fan works too! So many people talked about how Stephen would’ve hated the musical and all that, but I like to think he would be happy seeing the live that went into it all(and to my knowledge he did actually give the green light to the musical as a spin-off)
A part of me really wants to see an animated version of the Musical. The original show is amazing, but I wanna see what these songs would look like in an animated form.
this got me to listen to the songs as it goes along and Bikini Bottom Day is such an out of body expirience if you're familiar with JOCO's songs. like it OOZES his style. i thought like it was gonna have some resemblences to his normal stuff but not be like too recgonizable kinda like TMBG's song but NOPE. it is MAXIMUM coulton. it is such a stereotypically johnathon coulton song its halarious it caught me so off-guard. so wish it had a demo version sung by johnathon coulton. i can imagine how it'd sound so perfectly in my head.
YESS!!! i looove love the spongebob musical so much!!!! i watched the for tv recording the night it premiered i was so excited and also instantly fell in love and have since watched it and listened to the broadway cast album sooo many times, there was a solid couple months where its the only thing i would talk about (thank you autism) LOL its so nice to see such a positive and genuine video about it ^__^ i know its been 8 months BUT i would love a video going more into the detail of the production!! i think its so interesting and everybody really put their whole heart into it from the music to the sets to the costumes
