Mac Ice, Associate Professor of Library Science and Director of Special Collections and Archives at Abilene Christian University, will present "I Love to Save the Story: How to Preserve Your Church and Congregational Records" at the Alabama Department of Archives and History (ADAH). This special 90-minute program is made possible through a partnership with Faulkner University and the Alabama Humanities Alliance. The program is part of the ADAH’s celebration of Archives Month, a national celebration commemorating archivists’ contributions to the preservation and accessibility of significant records.
Churches are powerfully formative communities whose records often document pivotal moments of members’ lives: births, marriages, deaths, baptisms, and more. The church and congregational records that tell these stories are not only important for local communities but also have broader utility for scholars, researchers, and historians. Ice’s presentation will explore practical steps to identify, gather, preserve, and make accessible records documenting congregational life.
The program will be held in person in the ADAH’s Joseph M. Farley Alabama Power Auditorium, and it will also be live-streamed through the ADAH’s Facebook page and RU-vid channel. Admission is FREE.
