Simon Fowler doesn't usually do romantic or heart-on-sleeve songs, so this one is interesting. Presumably written to his bloke, or with him in mind. Perhaps the guy was getting a bit brassed off with Simon's booziness and/or consumption of weed and/or chemical substances. (Don't get me wrong, I'm not a wowser and I have an immense liking for the guy as a muso and a human being, but all that substance consumption means he might not have always been the easiest person to be in a relationship with but him and his mate have been together for 30 years, since they were in their early 20s I think, and that is fucking impressive!) Anyway, it's a really nice relationship song, straight or gay. One of the things I like about Ocean Colour Scene is that they're a band for men and women, black and white, straight and gay; they're just a great, hard-working *Everyman* band. A regular bunch of guys who are immensely talented and have produced an exceptional body of work over the years. And, in my view, all the better for just getting on with it, setting their own example, and not making a song and dance about race, sex or sexual orientation. That's how it should be. At the end of the day people are just people. Most people are nice and decent (and all the OCS guys seem to be in that category) and some people are nasty shits. Nothing to do with skin colour, sex or sexuality.
