I Loved Dear Evan Hansen. 

Thanks for giving us your honest opinion despite all the negativity out there. The movie really resonated with me and hit all of the right notes. The audience scores (verified ones) are also very positive so far, so as you pointed out, your positivity may be a shared experience. The Anonymous Ones is my personal favourite (I have not seen the stage show) as it is extremely relatable and has palpable lyrics. But to each their own :D

I loved the movie as well. The awful reviews truly feel like a pre-planned talk track decided by the controversy ahead of its release and used as clickbait. I honestly don't find most of the negative reviews to be honest reviews of the movie itself.

I’m really happy to have found this video. I’ve never seen the play, and I was expecting to hate the movie based on the reviews. Honestly. I think k the whole controversy over Ben Platt’s age is pretty overblown. I’ve seen actors who look much older play high school roles, so I didn’t think his relationship with Zoe was creepy. I didn’t get that vibe at all. Sometimes I think people wanted to hate the movie to feet the outrage mill. I personally loved the movie. I e seen it three time. The first time I saw it, the theater was packed and everyone was ugly crying. Good video!

I don't really like the plot and I feel like it could be improved a lot - I also didn't think they handled mental health awareness very well. But I love the songs and the characters and I enjoyed watching the show and movie I guess

I absolutely loved this movie. I’m so glad you posted this positive review. I saw the movie 5x’s while it was in my theatre. I would have seen it more if it was in the theatre longer. I actually loved his fidgeting. I didn’t see it as unnecessary. I’ve already pre-ordered the dvd. Thank you for a great review.

Oh interesting take. I actually had no great love for the original stage play and so I actually loved the movie but... Not for the same reasons. I definitely love it as a cringey mess with an aging actor playing a teenager who's bug eyed twitchy acting newly delighted me Everytime he was onscreen. It was definitely worth the 7 dollar matinee, and I definitely reccomend it to other people. Albeit not for the same reasons you enjoyed it.

While I'm not the biggest fan of the movie, I'm glad you liked it. Maybe overtime, it'll grow on me. But for now, I feel disappointed. But again all power to you for liking this

You bring up a lot of interesting points as to the benefits of adapting a stage musical for film, even if I do vehemently disagree with almost everything you said. It was definitely a different perspective. So many things were lost in an attempt to cut corners for the film adaptation, most importantly being the complexities of Heidi and Evan's relationship and they compare to Connor and Cynthia's relationship. Cutting "Anybody Have a Map?" and "Good For You" rob the film of so much depth and it feels like they did nothing to supplement that. Understanding the benefits of film as opposed to the stage, I really would've loved to see an expansion of Connor's character and relationship with his parents, similar to what was explored in the Arena Stage production with "A Little Bit of Light" and the never-included but demo'd song "In the Bedroom Down the Hall." The medium of film would've lends itself better to sequences taking place in the past. "Dear Evan Hansen" (2021) just feels like such a missed opportunity. Instead of trying to cut corners but still recreate the stage version, they should've gone the route of the novel and used the benefits of the medium (film in this case as opposed to literature) to expand the story and create something that can stand on its own while keeping the spirit of the source material.

It’s an incredibly flawed movie, but the pros mostly make up for its cons. I enjoyed it, despite how out of place Ben Platt looked.
