There's nothing finer than medieval folk metal for me! Awesome composition and use of a variety of ancient instruments! And, also, their videos are always a work of art. Thanks for the review!
Saltatio Mortis (Latin for Danse Macabre aka Dance of Death) made a cover of EC's Hypa Hypa and it's a treat. Most of their material is in German but they have some English songs too (mostly covers), like The Dragonborn Comes - From The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (feat. Lara Loft [German singer & voice actress) or We Drink Your Blood (Powerwolf). There are also lots of interesting collaborations including members of Saltatio Mortis, often times from live performances, a few examples: Veitstanz (translates to Dancing Mania) 2014 Version (Live), Subway To Sally feat. Chris Harms (not in the video as he was connected via stream), Saltatio Mortis (singer Alea and both of their bagpipe players), Schandmaul, Feuerschwanz (represented by singer Hauptmann Feuerschwanz), MajorVoice, Patty Gurdy. Warriors Of The World United (Manowar cover), Feuerschwanz feat. Thomas Winkler (ex-Gloryhammer, Angus McSix), Saltatio Mortis (represented by singer Alea), Melissa Bonny (Ad Infinitum). Schildmaid (Shield Maiden) Live, Feuerschwanz (feat. Luzi Das L & 'Elsi' El Sibador, both of SM's bagpipe players).
Great reaction. Thank you! If you loved this one, you might want to know that there will be a "director's cut" of this video released on May 31st, which will be even longer than the original. It's part of some "compensation activities", as the "Finsterwacht"-Album will have to be released a week late.
Dude I just saw that video and when trying to find out more about about the band found your channel. Agree that I love everything about it and clicked on it as soon as I saw feat. Blind Guardian! New to this band too, but can't wait to hear more. Currently been deep diving into the Aryeon rabbit hole! Anyway enjoyed your reactions!
@@TheWolffAndTheMelody check out the live video Aryeon just released last month for an upcoming release. Live version of The Sixth Extinction. Amazing!
At 2:11 in the video you see Bernhard Hennen (in his role as a dying knight). He is the best-known german author of fantasy novels and also wrote stories for the german role-playing game system "The Dark Eye". 😉
the song is about the "Finsterwacht". This is in the Lore of german pen and paper RPG "DSA" - "Das schwarze Auge". In there, the "Finsterwacht" is a line of watchtowers. If they are lighted everybody knows an Orc attack or even invasion will happen.
DUDE! Glad to tell you that Saltatio Mortis are one of the bands I've seen live the most often, as they are a famous Medieval Rock band from Germany and you know where I'm originally coming from!🖤✨️They kick ass live, and you definitely have to CHECK OUT MORE, because all of their songs are fiery energizers and uplifting bangers! I absolutely love "Finsterwacht", I guess it's their longest song ever and their most sophisticated video - but they actually did a lot of very cinematic videos in the past years, so everyone who is not checking out their back catalogue is making a huge mistake! The LOTR aesthetics in this one are out of this world, the cinematography is stunning, and I'm sure none of us is able to imagine how many hours and days and weeks of work went into this masterpiece. A video and a song like this - simply on another level compared to most of the stuff we are getting to listen to nowadays - earn my deepest respect and admiration for all the artistry and outstanding skills. I was blown away when I watched it the first time! Bands who care about even the smallest details SO much prove that they are living for their art and creating with heartfelt passion, and in a shallow world like ours a video like this is a smashing statement!
Welcome to Saltatio Mortis! Now you should check out In Extremo and Corvus Corax, Feuerschwanz and Schandmaul.... Medieval Folk is awesome!!! 😎🤘⚔️⚔️⚔️🔥🔥🔥
Gonna add some Nerd-Context, just because I can and because I'm hyped: 1) It was already mentioned, that it takes place in the world of "The Dark Eye", Germanys biggest TTRPG, and talks about the Finsterwacht, the Watch, guarding the Realms of Men via signal towers. Something between the beacons of LOTR and the Nightswatch from GoT. 2) The Album will be released in combination with Material for the game. In the deluxe-Box, there is a novel, which basically retells the story of the song. In this story a group of Bards, modeled after the real band moves from tower to tower along of the Watch to entertain the troops and then gets entangeld into the coming war. 3) The album tour sees the band actually traveling from tower to tower like in the novel. All concerts are open air in real German castles. 4) The Knight dying at 3:32 is Bernhard Hennen, the author of the novel and one of the most well known fantasy-authors in Germay. 5) The Warrior highlighted at 11:04 on the right is Nikolai Hoch, the editor-in-chief of the TTRPG. 6) The Bandmember you called Badass at 5:27 is an absolute Legend. Is stagename is Falk. He was the co-founder of the Band in 2000. Before, he had one of the first TTRPG and nerdstores in Germany and was a renowned HEMA Athlete. He also wrote official Modukes for "The Dark Eye" in his freetime. And all that aside he is just the sweetest older Gentleman you can imagine, beeing always optimistic and having a super cute lisp.
Hell Yeah, One Arrow..and the hard watch for a good Bagpiper starts again ;-) Love your Reactions. I had Tears in my Eyes. Its Epic. Thx for this Video
The beacons! The beacons are lit! :D My first thought literally when I first watched this. And Hansi singing in German threw me for a loop, I didn't even recognise him the first time. I'm not even a huge fan of the medieval and folky stuff, but this is awesome.
Again, this had that 80's feel to it I like so much. The music was SO good in this. The vocals were good as well, which, of course, with the addition of subtitles. Cool track.
Oh, trust me! You NEED to listen to Saltatio Mortis! I believe Saltatio Mortis was commissioned by the video game to do these two song for their anniversary. Pray to the Hunter: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HIdHdw_8yJk.html The Dragonborn Comes: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6iO2sdC-IV8.html You also enjoy Electric Callboy, well they did a song called Hype Hype--and then they asked several other genres of music to do a cover of it. (everything from country--Boss Hoss, to folk metal--Saltatio Mortis and more.) Actually, their album was a 2 disc set and disc two was all covers of this song. Check it out original and then play with the covers! Hi WOLF please react to SALTATIO MORTIS . " My Mother told me " , " Praying to the Hunter" , "the Drgonborn comes" 😊 you are a good man. Greetings from Germany
They did the song in English now. It's called Darkenguard. 😁 Enjoy. P.S.: fan of the band for 20 years now. They changed and adapted their music style over the years. I just went to a concert of them. With my 9yo son. Best memories. ❤️
If you're in the need for a translation, I'm gladly of support 🤘 Lyrics of “Finsterwacht” = “Darkwatch” [intro] Darkness weighs heavily on the land The looming peaks of the mountains rise ominously into the sky After all these years it's back, that eerie whisper in the night What is hidden there in the dark forests? A storm is coming, it is getting cold on the Dark Ridge But there is hope For in the midst of all this gloom, the Guardians of the Watch stand high up on the towers Day after day, night after night Ready to defend our families and our country with their lives When they light their fires, the Goddess has mercy on us It is the fires of fear that burn there May the heroism of the Guard shine brighter than the light of the flames Because they are our last bastion from what lurks for us in the shadows And our hope there on the Finsterwacht [Verse 1: Alea] The flames burn high up The sky is black and distant A memorial in the darkness Every fire is a star Say goodbye friends Sing one last song Sign after sign together into the night On the Darkwatch [Verse 2: Hansi Kürsch] Silent heroes without rest The looks sharp as steel United, inspired by the courage to die Let's stand here one last time Be vigilant friends The shadows have awakened Sign after sign together into the night [Chorus: Alea & Hansi Kürsch] And the world is on fire I want to go through the fire with you Until our ashes unite for eternity And the world is on fire Then we'll see each other again Beyond here, beyond time [Instrumental Break] [Chorus: Alea & Hansi Kürsch] And the world is on fire I want to go through the fire with you Until our ashes unite For eternity And the world is on fire Then we'll see each other again Beyond here, beyond time For eternity [Bridge: Choir, Hansi Kürsch & Alea] Fires flare up We are the light in the night Rondra, hear our choir Come stand with us, for we are the guard Friends, be careful (fires blazing) On the Darkwatch Be the shield wall at the end of the world (We are the light in the night) Hold the tower (Rondra, hear our choir) Also in Orkensturm Stand together for we are the watch (Come stand with us for we are the watch) Friends, be careful (fires blazing) On the Darkwatch Be the shield wall at the end of the world (We are the light in the night) Hold the tower (Rondra, hear our choir) Also in Orkensturm Stand together for we are the watch (Come stand with us for we are the watch) [Chorus: Alea & Hansi Kürsch, only Hansi Kürsch] And the world is on fire I want to go through the fire with you Until our ashes unite Forever (Forever) And the world is on fire Then we'll see each other again Beyond here, beyond time For eternity
Saltatio Mortis are phenomenal. Not only is the music so good, but their videos are amazing little gems that contain such glorious stories. As others have said, Saltatio Mortis, In Extremo, Feuerschwanz, Corvus Corax... German medieval metal is the best. Loved your reaction; my guess is it's pretty similar to how most of us felt when we watched this.
Thanks for this cool reaction. Greetings from Germany! PS: Das Schwarze Auge is named The Dark Eye (in the 90s: Realms of Arcania) in English :) !Aventuria
i don't like the sound of the vocals, the way it is sung. it doesn't fit to the music video. all this medieval bands sound like shanty choirs and i don't get why
