The slurpy siphon.... The multiplicitous noodles.... The big, soulful eyes..... And best of all, the wiggles...... This is truly The animal of all time.
You're thinking of ammonites, another group of cephalopods with coiled shells that did go extinct at the end of the Cretaceous. Despite their similar appearance to nautilus, ammonites are more closely related to squids and octopuses than they are to the nautilus. That said, nautiloids (the group that contains the living nautilus) were once much more common, had many more species, and inhabited a wider range of habitats, but most are now extinct. The sole survivors of the nautiloids were the ancestors of the modern nautilus species.
@@fubberpish3614 Many years back I read of speculations that ammonites --- being close cousins to (now proven to be intelligent and sentient) octopuses --- would likely now be the smartest creatures on Earth if they had not gone extinct. Pluses and minuses, my friends. Pluses and minuses. 😉
Nautilus in many videos show only from the wild ones, and they have a lot less tentacles, probably lost to predators etc. Seeing one whole and hale is cool.
@@Owl325 i hate that i forgot to look it up cause I've been thinking to myself why people don't just google things....only to make the same mistake myself 💀 Well thanks :D Edit: yoo they can :0 but not every species. But they indeed can grow em back
@@niggacockball7995 By triops they mean the small 3 eyed creatures that look like a cross between a very small shrimp and a horseshoe crab. Their eggs can remain dried out for years only needing some water to spring back to life. To the point where you can just buy a kit with eggs in them at a store.
Yeah that's how they search for food. The Nautilus can actually smell and taste with its tentacles and this is how they find food. Nautilus have terrible eyesight, which is unusual for cephalopods. The eye they have functions like a camera obscura
When I was little I thought these critters were extinct but I'm glad they still exist today, these scrunklies are amazing ❤️ 2:46 and here it looks like he enjoys the music lol
The choice of music was absolute top-notch for this video, love it, thank you so much for making my evening a lot better, my day was kinda rough and this really did help, cheers!
I can't believe you went through all the effort and time making a cool song, and use it as an excuse to show off this cool chambered nautilus you found. Epic
I suffer from really bad depression and tonight’s one of those nights nothing could make me smile. This video instantly brought me joy I haven’t felt, in months. Thank you
if you want to go real prehistoric, look no further than the ctenophore(comb jelly). THE most ancient animals still alive today, despite what those sponge-loving haters say
clicked on this video because i have a huge love for marine biology and getting to hear a heavenly song like this is such an unexpected treat.... pls release this on everything i need to bump this shit ASAP‼️🔥
The music really captures the feeling of adoring the creature, incredibly well done. It matches the nautilus' vibe while also managing to communicate fascination, all without being too overbearing. Seems like it may become a classic after all, as this was a random recommend for me. I'll be sure to share with all my friends.
I need to elaborate here but your not wrong. Only sea cucumbers have changed a lot over 450 million years but nautilus have not. They even outlived their own descendants the ammonites (ridged fashion forward shells and different body orientation inside the shell) and still remain the same.
I just found out they were not extinct, and these are one of my favorite dinos from that period. Thank you for bringing this into light, I would really love to have one.
They make me happy...soo care free, bump into things, and such an ancient design(hey what ain't broke don't need fixin) I hope they live for millions more
