What im trying to figure out is what is your monthly income based off of those numbers/percentages shown? Is that $40k/yr from investments? $60k?

I agree I was a victim. I have a TDF 2040 from my company for many years I did not check on it for years and the last few years ago. I decided to see the growth on my 401k. I was disgusting with the very slow growth I was putting in 15%. So I ended up changing my investment. I'm now investing into the S&P 500 and Vanguard Growth on top of the TDF with a total of 25% ($20,010 a year). I'm getting ready to bump it up close to the max limit on January 1, 2023. I'm not playing around and I'm almost 50. It's hard to determine it since we are in a bare market. I lost over $25k but now I just broke even. The hard part for me and maybe others is to determine how much I need in retirement to support my family living comfortable and not have to worry about running out of money.

Expenses is what they need to ask first, but they know this.

is 75K in a 401K typical of what you see for someone 40?

You be surprise there are allot of 40s have $70k or more in there 401k. I was one of them in my early 40s.

Mine is at 10k. I just started and I'm 44. No one I know even uses a 401k. The financial education provided in America is laughable. (idk enough to speak about other countries) Without the pandemic I never would have learned this

@@ehderguyyashootadeerorno2313 Some people just started, without financial education would anyone except differently? It isn't do much about the money now, it's the fact we are changing our mindset. Don't fret man, we will get there.

I just turned 40 and I have $38k in my 401k, BUT I only started 3 years ago. 13 years before that I was a teacher paying into a pension system, so I’ll get a small pension starting at 60.

Hey Dustin. Same age as you. According to my div chart portfolio, with about 8-10% growth (supposedly). I should clear 179k by 2041. Do you think i can pull back now? Or should i keep adding to my regular index? Btw i contribute the max every year to my Roth because i have no 401k through my company.

Maybe I missed it, but it seems like you left out the most important part... What are the expected retirement expenses? There is no way to determine how much will need to be saved or a target portfolio value if you are not projecting retirement expenses.

Yes, thank you noticing too! I’m curious to know what this portfolio pays out at 65.

Basically most people are screwed. I only have 30k in my 401k and robinhood account total at 40. No way with inflation I can invest over 1k a month. Wages are falling behind big time. I out about 500 a month in my 401k. Maybe 200 a month in my robinhood but my wages are falling behind so I have been doing less.

Can you move a 401k at the job you presently work at to an IRA?
@Zoltarswim
@Zoltarswim Год назад
You can not until you leave the job. Once you leave that job, you can "roll" the 401k to an IRA (with another broker... Fidelity, E-trade etc.)
@don3667

Thank you
@ehderguyyashootadeerorno2313
Sometimes if your employer changes 401k providers you can roll it into your IRA. Sometimes you 401k will allow you to roll it over while still in the plan (rare). Check with your 401k provider. Also look at your age. If the rule of 55 may apply to you, you may want to leave it in your 401k. Rule of 55 allows you to withdraw penalty free from your employers plan if you separate from work. If it is in an IRA you can NOT do the rule of 55.
