I'm a Failure.

Seriously, I’m a failure. I failed on a few of my goals here already.
Today I challenged myself to make a video from start to finish in a day. I started around 11:00 am and finished at about 3:30 am, but I made it!
I also share my thoughts about how to learn from our failures. Learning to focus on what’s working rather than what isn’t can help us turn our failures into successes.
And I got some cool IKEA Trådfri lights for the studio. Here's a link if you're interested: amzn.to/2hJ3hmK (Amazon affiliate link)

Let me know what you guys think about this format or if there's a particular video you liked the style of. I'm going to keep experimenting until I find my groove.

I love the personality of this video!! I like the birds chirping and showing a little bit of your personal space (like the Kitty)!

So you think this casual direction is more betterer? Or should I just add more kitteh?

I'd love to see some more videos on painterly photography, or painting in general. Super interesting and helpful.

Thanks, Ryan! If you didn’t already see, there are 5 videos in that series and another series called creative crossovers I did which touches on painting as well. Appreciate the input! 🍻

I am a musician and a photographer. I just found your channel. I dig it. My studio is such a mess. Gah. It stresses me out.

Totally know the feeling. Mine’s a mess again, haha. I guess I just have to accept this is the cycle of creating and destroying…or am I just creating and destroying my sanity? 🤔 But hey thanks for dropping by!

Nicely done. People are scared to let their videos run a little longer. This was nice.

Thanks Todd! On Facebook people were suggesting I make them shorter, but I'm torn. I think shorter is better for Facebook and RU-vid viewers are trending toward longer content but I don't have enough data on my channel yet, nor have I really found my audience.

Hey, I didn't know you were on here creating! Jodi just told me, I'll go check your stuff out

You're focused on the audience so that tells me you'll have no problem finding the right balance. My account here is almost a bit of a storage closet at the moment. I contribute to a bit of a gameplay channel called OHCPlay and a lot of creative time is going towards the Next Gen Nerds podcast that's spinning up. It hasn't spilled over here on RU-vid yet but we're doing plenty on Twitter @NGNerds and getting those iTunes eps out. Thanks though!

Hey Vinny! Miss you and Jodi like crazy - glad to hear you all are doing well. Cocoa lookin' spry :D SO, my job right now is putting together content creator influencer programs for big brands. I watch a metric ton of these kinds of videos. I also create branding, strategy, etc etc for these creators and the brands that hire them. I think that you should keep doing what you like to do. Internet audiences are ultra savvy about authenticity (as you hinted at in your authentic brand video) and can tell when you're forcing yourself into a format that you don't like. I would also say that you are not a failure just because your 3mo old RU-vid channel isn't piling on more than 10, 15, 20 views. There are folks out there who pump out high quality production value videos with authentic brand voices multiple times a DAY and still see those numbers. Building this kind of thing takes time, especially when you're not doing something ultra consumer-y/pop culture-y. I would caution you, in a supportive way, to not expect to be generating 3-4 figure views until you have a richer content library, and are more consistent with your output. It is unrealistic to expect people to be connected to you as you go through your "discovering what this channel IS" phase. With that being said: just because one or two videos of a similar format aren't getting views, that does not mean you should feel the need to change it up. 2-3 videos is a small sample size. Very small. And you have to let your content breathe. I'm working with a new creator right now who has a killer studio, super interesting content, and has been at it for over a year and only has 300 subscribers. You're competing with a lot of people for your potential audience's attention. It's also worthwhile for you to go out and interact with similar-minded content creators. This is social media after all. I have no idea if you're doing this now, but if you aren't - that's some low-hanging fruit for you to grab. If you're interested in growing Subs - I'd also plan out some shorter form videos. Again, I'd say do what you want to do. But we have a saying - you have to earn people's time. And right now, you're asking for a lot of it (per video). Win some folks over with interesting short videos and they'd be more willing to sit through your long ones. Marketing/branding a content creator early in their creator careers is difficult because you're trying to find your groove, and the tastes of audiences are always changing. Play with short-form formats. Consider an economy of words and time. Switch up your video energies. Keep on keepin' on - getting strangers to watch you is harder than it looks. And if the budgets and contracts that cross my desk everyday are any indicator, people that do it well are worth thousands and thousands and thousands of dollars. If it were that easy, and that well-rewarded -- wouldn't everyone do it?

Ryan Crowe thank you Ryan, that was a really well thought out and informative reply. I really appreciate that and will take it to heart. Jodi and I were just talking about you the other day. She was reminiscing about the Stealth days. Hope you're still kicking ass, be sure to hit us up next time you're in town! Or if we're lucky enough to be out your way first you'll be the first to know :). We are on limited travel at the moment to take care of old man Cocoa. Thanks again for the useful criticism and great to hear from you to boot!
