Honestly for the majority of listening to this it felt like it should’ve ended after she finds her assistant an next patient eaten an just been a short story. Everything after that up till the suspenseful end with her sister felt like unnecessary extra content

Well, obviously! On the one hand, it was extremely creepy because the story managed to keep itself rooted in reality so much that I could feel how it would be if things like that actually happend. On the other hand, I felt sad for the poor alien critter who did not understand why nobody wanted to eat with him.
