Bicycles‼️ Bicycles‼️ Bicycles‼️🚴‍♂️🚴‍♀️🚴 Why in the heck is everyone always on foot in these apocalyptic stories, especially when they have to cover large distances and are outnumbered. Bicycles are great because they make little to no noise until you're right up close, up against most bipedal species of similar height you can easily outrun them without getting winded, you can carry more weight without becoming fatigued, can cover over 100 miles a day on unobstructed roads, easy to stash or conceal while resting for the night or scavenging

Yes, but that is something that requires upkeep. Upkeep that isn't easily available when everything has gone to shit. Especially tires. Rubber decays, even the synthetic stuff will dry rot after a few years of improper protection and sun exposure. It may work in the short term, but eventually they will become less useful as parts become more and more scarce.
