iirc he's adressed this before - he used to post some vids over an hour & they got significantly lower viewer stats, idk if he plays longer games but it might be worth hitting up his stream?

handicap games are a bit dangerous. Taking handicap gets you in the habit of backing off and giving up stones since you have so high a lead on the board, something that will get you destroyed in an even game. And a habit of giving handicap often breeds a habit of overplaying, since you often need to to overcome the handicap. as such, i havent played handicap in years.

Shame really. Handicap games allow us to play challenging games with players of different strength than ours. They‘re an opportunity to train exactly those things you‘re talking about. As white it‘s not necessary to overplay since black will play worse moves anyway because of the strength difference, so you can catch up naturally by profiting from those mistakes instead of playing overplay moves that don‘t really work and you have to get lucky that they don‘t realize. As black if you always pull back you will let white catch up so you learn to resist and play more severe moves and punish overplay. Actually I‘d argue that these sandbagger games you like to do are the ones that make bad habits. The reason is that in handicap games you get rewarded for doing the right things, with a good game and a win possibly. In a sandbagger game no one gets rewarded because the result is already clear. When there is no reward for playing to the best of your ability that’s where bad habits form. As the stronger player you get used to playing slack moves since you‘ll win anyway, sloppy reading is abound and no real challenge is there to keep your focus. The weaker player just gets dominated from beginning to end which makes them try unreasonable things that don’t work and might become the bad habit. No fun either. Why not play some handicap games with your patreons? Would be much more interesting than the sandbagging stuff.
