We don’t really have chipmunks in the UK, so it’s a special treat to see them. They always seem to do everything so fast, especially moving & stuffing their cheeks! How does all that food fit into the mouth of such a seemingly small animal? But the big take away from this video is the clear proof that you’ve got some kind of super power to spread calm & create trust with all living things. The effect you seem to have on wildlife is uncanny. Your close friends & family must have perpetual low blood pressure. Is your day job some kind of high level hostage negotiator or international peace envoy?

Chipmunks are very cool animals. I'm glad you have one and you're likely to get more. They really love peanuts and sunflower seeds, but be cautious of almonds if you see them look sleepy after eating them. Almonds naturally contain some toxins. I'll recommend the channel ChooChoo's story, which is run by ChooChoo Lee who shares her life with chipmunk friends in her beautiful yard in Canada. There you can see how they act, and your new chipmunk behaves just like ChooChoo's chipmunks.

Chipmunks are naturally more friendly than squirrels. At Crater Lake they will nearly all eat from your hand. Chipmunks are just a small relative of the squirrel. I love little critters too, so bless you for helping them.

About a squirrel telling the chipmunk about you. I had a neighborhood dog that would come by my house. I'd give him water a food. Then, one another dog came, then another. My son said, "I think Jack told the other neighborhood dogs about the lady down the street having food and drinks." All are welcome 🤗

Just how many nuts can a chipmunk put in its’ mouth….so cute😁. Maybe Smoothie sent you Munchy to help heal your heart. We had a cat that passed and in one week an older kitten showed up in our backyard and made us her forever family. Hugs from Texas🤠
Chipmunks are so stinkin' cute! It always amazes me how much they can stuff into those little cheeks. I've seen them willing to jump on a shoulder to get a peanut treat.
Yes the chippys are much more trusting of people than are the squirrels by far. And they are super fast little dudes too, with very big appetites or food hoarding ability. Gotta love them tho. And when they alarm or whatever it is they are doing it is extremely loud for such little critters.

At our house we have Chippy the chipmunk (great name huh?😂) who visits us multiple times a day, waiting patiently at the back screen door for his peanuts and almonds. He doesn’t care for pistachios. Loves grapes!
Chipmunks are a lot more trusting than squirrels! I have 4-5 chipmunks and a handful of squirrels that constantly visit me. I find the chipmunks adapt a lot quicker to interacting with us!
@@Squirrels_at_the_window If you try positioning your hand tilted more towards their body, they often get accustomed to climbing on the edge of your palm, and you can stroke their back with your thumb while they collect their mouthful. It's one of the most fulfilling ways to feed them for me!...besides having Chalupa climb on my shoulders to ask for nuts. 😂 lol
I love chipmunks! ❤ I had a special chipmunk friend she passed away last June. I miss her so much! ❤ I just wished they lived longer lives. They are precious animals! ❤
I’ve seen this before. First, when I was younger with my grandpa, they would come right up for the food, no fear. Also, on YT, there’s a guy where the little one comes right in his house and will sit on his lap while he stuffs those adorable cheeks they have 😊 Same with yourself, they see the squirrels they see you have food, no threat they’ll take that chance right from the beginning. Studies have been done with chipmunks memory, if they have a terrific scare, they will not return. No worries here, you have a new adorable little friend ❤️😊 …who will eat more than a squirrel if you let them. Another addition, wonderful.
This can start to happen when you are consistently kind and generous to animals. They begin to understand that you will never harm them. I discovered this on meditation retreats where as we silently and slowly exercised by walking around a field at lunchtimes. I realised that rabbits would come really close, and not run away when I approached and one day as I put my hand out towards a bird sitting on a fence, it hopped quite happily onto it, no-one there having ever been anything other than quiet and unthreatening. Your new little chipmonk visitor is a darling!
Squirrels are marvelous, but chipmunks are my favorite. Offer chipmunks peanuts in the shell (unsalted & roasted to avoid Aflatoxin) and enjoy watching them try to stuff as many peanuts into their mouths as possible.
Better yet, trying giving them grapes. I had chipmunks in the back yard of one of the houses I lived in and those grapes would pop out after too many were packed in.
You said you were amazed how much the chipmunk trusted you, I will add than I am amazed by how much YOU trusted the chipmunk, you must have a very spécial skill to be able to connect so fast with wildlife. I don't have a Chipmunk as my profile picture for no reason. Incredibly smart, so sweet, so trusting, so cute, so funny. I had a chipmunk friend once that I loved a whole lot, but only knew her briefly. I can't believe such an awesome personality could fit in that tiny body of hers. I only get to see a chipmunk once per year max near my house, and it is always a big deal to me.
That's awesome! 😁 There's a good chance he was observing how you treat the squirrels for a while, and feels no threat. I also believe that animals can read or sense intentions from other living things that they're near and aware of.
Aww... SOOOO cute! I had a rescue squirrel who walked up to me when he was about 4 weeks old and I raised him... it was one of the most satisfying things I've ever done in my life. What a joy.... except for all the scratches since he thought I was his living tree. 😳 😄 After I had him for about 8 months, free roaming and destroying my entire house, he decided it was time to return to the wild one day where I found him. I sure miss Scruffy, but I know he's much happier in those big oak trees. I will never forget how soft those little paw pads were and how much he loved scratches. 🤗
I've always found that chipmunks are much faster to trust and are much less reserved about sitting on you or being bold and even tugging on clothing if you're not paying attention to them, which is funny because they're so much smaller and vulnerable.
I have had one of those days… but this just made me smile and just enjoy the love and joy these little fur balls give to the world - thank you for being such a wonderful person ❤❤

I feed the assorted creatues that come through my yard. Thistle, Sunflower, and Safflower bird feeders, plus other items on a big boulder I used as a feeding platform as it's always high enough to stay above the snow in the winter. More Sunflower seed to bribe the gray squirrels to stay off of the bird feeders, and dog food for the Crows and Blue Jays. Of all the animals, the Chipmunks are the bravest by far. The Gray and Red Squirrels know me equally well, but always scamper up the trees nearby when they see me coming. The Chipmunks, however, will run alongside me as I'm carrying the food, jump up on the rock to wait, but once I get within a foot or two of them with the seed bin, they'll jump off of the rock until I'm done, and then jump back on once I start walking away. I have Raccoon, Turkey, 'possum, and the occasional Deer. The chippies are the most brave by far of all of the animals passing through the yard.
