First time mama over here who stressed about my little one eating as well but I pushed through and went straight into BLW. While I loved it, it’s definitely not for everyone! A few things I learned from my research is that gagging is totally normal and is actually what keeps your baby from choking, so really it’s a good thing. Also, the gag reflex on a baby is a lot further up than and adult which is why they gag so much and as they grow it moves back. We had many hard meals filled with stress but pushing through was worth it! A quote I found in my research is one I share with anyone feeding my girl. “Loud and Red, let them go ahead. Silent and Blue, they need help from you.” Hopefully this helps! I know how you feel, I’ve been there. You’ve got this mama!

So glad your back, and that you are all doing well. ❤ Gaitlin is such a cutie! Changing to grown-up food is always scary, but he will get there when he's ready 🥰 my little girl was the same way. I would get so nervous when she ate too. Prayers for peace for you all. I would love to see a house tour. 😍 I hope you have a blessed rest of the week and weekend!

First of all Michayla you are his mom, and you know what is best for Gaitlin. If you are only comfortable with pureed then do pureed.. maybe toss in some mashed up peas and carrots or something like that, but the main thing is don't sweat it, as long as he is healthy and happy!! You are a great mom and Jeremiah is a great dad.. just remember that.. don't worry about what experts and Dr's say.. so happy you are back!!

So with my first kid, I didn’t do any “real food” until she was 1 year old. All she did was whatever was the age recommended from gerber. For my 2nd child which just turned 9 months, I’ve done a lot more “real food” including pizza crust, dino nuggets, and hot dogs. Every kid is different & you need to do what is best for your kid! If the purée is what works best, stay with it. The most important thing to remember is that as long as they’re getting the formula they’re getting all the nutrients that they need & everything else just makes for sticky poops. You’re doing great!

Any advice for working with 4th graders? Our enrollment numbers are down, so my principal moved me from 1st to 4th for this upcoming school year. I've taught 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th but haven't taught 4th since my first year of teaching (which was 7 years ago).

He may have food texture issues. For me personally oatmeal and bananas make me gag. Yet I’m okay with grits - go figure. I just keep trying. It sounds like needs to get use to chewing and swallowing pieces of food. Maybe show him how you chew. Babies mimic what they see. It’s new so it’s a learning process for both you and him. Give yourself some grace. Whatever you do don’t force him to eat it. I threw out all this new age food stuff and kept it old school. I did what my grandma and mom did. Fed my kids bits and pieces of “real food” mixed with baby food.

Can you try to do pasta overcooked and cut up? That would be really easy to eat. Or the pasta meals that they make for toddlers already made? Honestly, I would go take a baby CPR class, you feel so much better! Look them up, they are usually free or cheap. AND if he's coughing he's still breathing, just remember that so it's OK! He will get through it (and so will you guys)! It's just a transition - he just has to get used to it... You just have to find a food he loves and will eat well and then he'll eat it up and if he eats it all up and eats it five days in a row so be it! LOL

Yes, whatever he eats, he eats - when he is hungry trust me he'll eat! My kids would eat nothing but chicken nuggets and mac n cheese and strawberries that was OK with me!

And then maybe you take a bite to show him it's good too! BUT my BABY is 11 LOL so it was a while ago... so I don't know if my knowledge is still accurate... AND just remember in the end EVERY CHILD IS DIFFERENT - and he will be OK IN THE END!!! He will be OK and THIS TOO SHALL PASS, MAMA! Deep breaths! And HUGS!

Can your pediatrician refer you to a dietician that you could meet with privately to voice your concerns and give you guidance? They could help you create a plan for Gatlin that you would be comfortable with.

I spoke with his pediatrician after I filmed this and they basically said it was normal and that I shouldn’t stress it. Over the week he has caught on!
