Hi I’m Rick Shiels, welcome to my channel RickShielsPGAGolf. This RU-vid channel is designed to help you play better golf, also to help you enjoy your golf more!
I specialise in golf club reviews, golf club unboxing, golf club news, golf club head to heads, and all about golf clubs.
I also want to make you play better golf by providing coaching video on all topics about golf, how to fix your slice, fix your hook, help you drive the golf ball longer, hit your irons more pure, hit your irons closer to the hole and help you draw and fade your golf shots.
I will also help you lower your score by chipping better by stopping you duff and thin chips, pitch the ball closer and also create backspin. Also I will provide you help to putt better and hole more putts!
On this channel I also make fun and entertaining golf content based on crazy and sometimes “gimmicky” golf clubs. I like to cut through the marketing hype about products and I like to give you the honest truth about golf equipment.

I wouldn't. Seems everybody does that and there is no way they are light years ahead of a lot of the other brands... except in price! Great set up for the review channel launch and we should get to see a lot of testing going on starting with different iron sets. Got to agree with Rick that Cobra is underrated and make exceptional equipment for a great price! Almost went that direction myself but had Cobra's for 20 years... was time to change it up.

Rick, I work as a club fitter and have had the opportunity to test most of the clubs on the market. I think you will be disappointed by the cobra cb. They have a TON of offset for a cb iron, and they feel really firm/clicky. The new srixon zx7 have less offset and still a bit clicky imo. I would recommend looking at the ping i230 with maybe an icrossover or i525 for your driving iron or look at something like a mizuno pro 225 or 223.
@BLKMeSa
@BLKMeSa Год назад
Agree 100% I played the first-gen ZX7/ZX5 combo, and the i230 feel very muted and soft (close to the ZX7 and way softer than the ZX5). Even after testing the mk.ii ZX irons, the i230s were as forgiving as the ZX5, but felt way better. They are consistent in carry distances, get up in the air easily, and look clean in the bag. Not to mention Ping's custom fitting is second to none. Maybe the only downside is the weak number of included no-upcharge shaft options which do not come close to Mizuno's.

Interesting to see a pro like yourself have similar thoughts as a recreational golfer. Similarly, I swapped my gap wedge for one that matches my iron set to give me more confidence on the full distance shots. I really don't use my sand and lob wedges outside of 50-60 yards.

Very excited for the upcoming reviews and what you will be putting in the bag. I feel Srixon irons have been so underrated and would be lovely to see you bag them. In my opinion the Srixon Z star is an excellent ball. I get greater spin and feedback when compared to the Titleist Pro V1 (just my feeling). When it comes to wedges I use a 46 PW and then a 50, 54 and 58 as I found that provides the same gapping throughout and similar distance gapping. Keep up the great work and excited for what's to come. Love from South Africa.

I recommend checking out the Cobra King Tour. I’ve been playing the earlier version, forged FlyZ+, for five years. My lofts are weaker than the new King Tours, back then they were closer to the new Cobra CB’s. Was all set to get some custom Mizunos before I hit them. Good video with great insights as to how you select your clubs. It reminded me of something that happened a month ago. Golfing with my brother - we haven't golfed together for 10 years and he actually gave up the game. Playing down in Phoenix, course way to crowded, we are backed up on a par 3. Talking to the guy in front of us, he has a new, full set of PXGs - got a good deal on them, said he consistently gets 20 to 30 yards more per club. My brother is interested in new clubs because we are both playing 10 to 15 year old equipment - it suits us. So we start watching the PXG guy, based on almost every golf shot he hit, his ball was only going 25-35 yards - watched him clunk two into the water on another par 3. So, just as you have a hard time giving up on old Bluey (3 wood), I play my old clubs because I generally know how they will react. I admire your skill level in actually being able to tell how different clubs react because in my case, it isn't the clubs, its the operator. Will be watching your equipment channel starting in May - thanks for your work.

I would love to see you take on an idea I've had for years. Really depending on your level of play, finding clubs or setups that have dual purpose. Example find a driver with the loft at 9 degrees with a certain shaft for your distance setup vs. A 10 degree loft adjustment with possibly a different shaft. Not talked about a lot but pros make these modifications pretty often and would be cool to see you share the wisdom with the public now that adjustable woods have become some predominant. Like a refined version of your playing with 2 sets video that then goes into different wedge grinds.

First to go? The BAG! So old. And my LW and SW, both SM8's, have only been ok for me. My wedges are usually great. I really need 'great' with those. The rest of the bag is pretty new and stays. Oh, new ball this year. Going back to the ProV1 - Had been using a Chrome Soft the last several years. My son gave me a yellow ProV1 to try, thought I'd like it. I didn't think I'd like it, but i was very wrong. Better ball flight all the way around for me. Great feel on the green putting. Sold. Even the yellow. I recently added a 5-wood to fill the gap between my Cobra King Utility driving iron and my 3-wood. That necessitated a change in my wedges to stay at 14 clubs. In addition to my 46* PW I had a set of Mizuno S18 wedges at 50*/54*/58*. I saw this as a chance to update the Mizunos (which were fantastic) and got 52*/58* sets of Miura K-grind 2.0 (main bag) and Mizuno JDM version MD-0 (practice bag). Maybe Rick should look at reducing his wedge count and getting more versatile with less.

For your less loft 56-60, longer irons and driver....I highly recommend you giving TXG a call and have Ian give you a nice fitting. With respect to the ball, I started my pick from the putting green and worked my way back. In the end, I went with the Vice Pro Plus for their feel, perforce and cost efficiency.

I got the Callaway Paradyme and yes the G425 is still more of a gem, more forgiving & bestow a level of confidence that the other brands don’t quite meet. Same with there woods and hybrids. New and shiny nice look but not always better

The new ping driving iron is a good addition the adjustable loft sleeve is super handy

Vokey wedges are generally not forged, although there are some available (out of Japan) that are. So better feel from forged wedges makes sense. Might also help to have a hybrid or two, maybe even a 7-wood in the bag!!

I found the Apex UT 18 degree iron in a Goodwill for $5.99 love it, I did at one time hit my Ping Eye 1 iron off the tee on narrow fairways. Bought the ping set more than 40 years ago from a shop in LA, they are a match set from 1-SW...way ahead of there time.

With the success of Paradym on the tour this year, might be time to give Callaway a try. Yes, I’m a Callaway fan boy. Lol. I’ve loved the irons for the past 25 years. I’ve tried others but the response from the irons is classic. I’ve not felt that with any others. I’ve tried many throughout the years. It all comes down to a personal feel. What you like, what gives you the most confidence, and pleasure.

I went and hit a bunch of irons recently. I really like the cobra CB for looks and the cobra king tour were overall best. So so nice. Currently playing my same irons from 2005 Taylormade RAC lt irons. Still pretty good.

You are to funny! Really relatable explanations. At the end where you show your swings you can be 15 - 20 yards longer. Shift earlier to in your downswing to the left with you hip. This would make your very classic swing more dynamic. Cheeers from SoCal.

Goto BlingYourSwing Rick, get that putter marked central! Done a fantastic job personalising my putter.

I still play my SLDR 3 wood - 2013. It is mainly for low stinger, controlled tee shots. I'd suggest if you like your 3 wood, just have it painted matte black. You'd be surprised how much that small change makes it feel "new", yet still inspires confidence from having prior success with it.

Your staying with the Ping. You hit well but the best drives I've seen you hit were with the new Wilson driver and there were other people said the same thing. Love the channel waiting patiently for spring in Mn. Minnesota Minnesota

Watching you saying that you’re going to bag but alter the putter…can’t help but notice the new salt n pepper in that beard 😂

Mizuno irons or maybe Srixon are soft and forgiving and have always looked the part. I know you said a thicker driving iron. Almost sounds like a hybrid. Love the Ping driver and the true blue 3 wood. Evenroll is awesome.

Good call on the 425, that club treats you well. Linksmaster is crazy nice.

Rick I’ve played the 50/55/60 set up for a while. I love the gapping. Tight enough for yardages, but different enough to have a purpose. My next move is switching up the bounces. I’d like a high bounce and low bounce option for the 55/60 don’t really care which… 60 might be more versatile with higher bounce… who knows. Good luck mate this season.

For wedges, maybe consider the Pings. I've had a few Ping wedges over the years and they always feel great.

Had a cobra 3-wood for so long. Recently tried the stealth 2 3-wood and I’m in love!! Needs to be tested by the main man!

While only recently getting back into the wonderful game my ol’ bluey might be the Sim2 3 wood for me it’s super consistent and that feeds into being confident on the course. Even if I had money I doubt it will go any where anytime soon.

I did the same with putting a PW that matched the irons vs a “wedge” PW, and gained far more confidence with it. Good move!

I believe Alec Steele is back in the UK again. You should book up with him to get a center mark on your putter. You could guarantee center, and he could do a short video of it. Win win.
