@@grumpygrandpa3640 What does Kev have to do with it? Its probably some broke joker that loves his wltoys cheapo and didnt like hearing just how cheap it is.
I'm glad that I'm subscribed to you thanks to the reviews, I'm very happy with my 124019 but am glad I didn't get the 144001, I believe it was too rushed into production with the success of the 124019
Some of the “carbon fibre" that is priced too good to be true is essentially just tarted up fibreglass made to look like carbon fibre. That kit doesn’t look or sound like the proper stuff…unless it is actually the cheapest carbon fibre made in an easy-bake oven…
I was going to order the carbon fiber. 🤔...I think I will still order it but won't install the chasis piece or cut it. Might try to have stock and carbon fiber at the same time for durability. Thanks for sharing 😀 👍.
The Carbon chassis will fit under the alloy one and does help reduce the flex. The holes on the front need opening up to fit though. Not perfect, but works.
I was always suspicious about the price of these things.... I read you have to upgrade a few pieces because the batteries on 3s will wreck the servo or something
@@Clavitz1 yes. None of the WL range (so far) is properly 3S compatible. theyre all brushed, too. That’s why so many people junk all the electronics. That said, the 144001 and 124019 are actually reasonably fast in stock, brushed form, especially with a cheap, wheel upgrade.
@@murrijuana2842 Buy a top-end racing kit and you'll see why that's only the case for the basher crowd. The top-end race cars aren't cheap to build or equip, but they come mostly dialed out of the box with very little need for additional modifications (mainly bearings, but you can get around that by just washing the grease pack out of the bearings and replacing it with bearing oil). Which reminds me... I need to build my Schumacher Cougar Laydown...
carbon fiber like that is for weight reduction, primarily race vehicles. it's not used to make the RC stronger, in some cases you get a loss of strength worth the weight loss. Good reviews, keep up the great work.
If things break while being used it's fair game... but because I was planning on pulling this apart before I even tried it...it was easier to buy it myself than let someone send me one
Its fine depending on what you want to do with it when they release the upper radio mount for this like the 124019 its should reduce the flex to acceptable levels. Wltoys could just add creases or a bead roll to the chassis to add rigidity but retool may not be worth it as they probably make all of the chassis regardless of scale on the same line.
"in the been" this three word do the magic in the channel with the cars, im actualy one of the fan who wach all videos, and when i see your channel i started to eat all content what you have! Lot of good content, top quality review, never giv up👊 (I know, im not realy correct in english, so sory for that, im a hungarian fun of your channel😅)
That's funny when Makerfire was asking my opinion about the carbon fibre chassis a few weeks ago they clearly explained I would have to bend the front kick on the chassis myself. I wonder why they didn't clearly explain this to you also? That's a real shame, anyhow this is far better than a 144001 or a 124019 for speed run. Keep an eye on my channel to see what these cars are really capable of 😎
The Carbon chassis is also about 2mm shorter and the front diff case holes are miss aligned. You also can’t heat carbon to bend it, it won’t hold its shape and you’ll more likely deform it. I’m in no doubt it’s better for speed runs...it’s bigger, wider and looks like you can gear it better. The fun for me though is getting the crazy speeds from the little ones. They’d be better selling the 104001 as a roller and knock about 25% of the price off.
@@TomleyRC you never got crazy speed on anything like the RC master has and you're calling a car trash because an aftermarket part doesn't fit ? Wow you really have no idea 😂
@@honestbloke2427 dude, The RC Master is certainly the Speed king when it comes to these WLtoys... and as you'll see in my reply, I've said I'm in no doubt the 104001 is going to be a more stable platform for speed. But there is only a small amount of people that are going to use to for that. As an actual 1/10 Buggy... it's pretty poorly made. Sub standard electronics...sub standard materials.
My thoughts exactly. I’ve hit 76mph on 3s with this 1/10th scale and I’m just getting started. It’s all in the tuning & that’s a big part of this hobby. Cheers
heres some thoughts on wltoys...stick with stock chassis... add carbon fiber strips to chassis for less flex...add another wltoys shock tower...eithir lc racing carbon or double up on front and back... also you can buy anti roll bars from lc racing just like with the 144001's... you can also add shims to remove link and wheel slop... cost for all this will be under $40... and of coarse for $40 you could convert it to brushless... yes this seems hard for newbies, but for many of us this is very easy and fun to do... after these changes i see no reason why this car would be anything but a great setup and fun to drive..
They had not shipped my one at the time you showed us the first video of the rely bad flexing, I said that's it and cancelled my order..Lol.So I thank you for saving me time and money. Big thumb's up Bro.
An honest, full scale review of the newest wl toys. I gotta say man, I feel your pain. I did all the same upgrades to my a979b, and aluminum seems to be a terrible choice for a chassis, at least, in the thicknesses that the rc engineers are putting out. 2mm and 3mm is hardly enough to help an arrma kraton 8s survive any kind of impact at any kind of speed. I believe that they could work, but flat metal is not the way to go with aluminum. If they added fluting, scalloping or even basic beam-style supports for those frames, all solid-state, they could be a dream! But the carbon fiber, that stuff is a win, when done right. The a979b carbon fiber chassis needed sanding as well, where the differentials go. The wheel arms need to be able to sit lower than parallel with the chassis, and in order to accomplish that, you have to bevel the outer edges of the differential seats to a 45 degree angle to allow for the shocks to push out to their maximum extension. But, that $75 car, that $25 chassis, $100 for electronics upgrades, $50 for the aluminum kit, $75 in tires now because I needed to buy the aluminum rim wheels because the speed and power of the upgraded 550 motor literally snaps off plastic rims. 3x sets of plastic rims now, the stock, redcats volcano-16 tires (micro badlands, I was so excited), and some off brand monster truck-esque tires, which were nice and squishy and soft foams... Way too soft, apparently... Yeah, my a979b is almost done now. It also almost $400. So you really do get what you pay for. With most rc's, if you want them to be prime and top notch, you will probably end up paying 4x what the car cost. Food for thought! Love your videos and your honesty my friend, keep doing what you do!!
Yes, it’s frustrating when parts don’t fit or they are sub standard. Then you add up when you have spent and you could have bought something much better. Although often it adds to the fun of the hobby 😎
What id like to see is the lc10b5 with a brushless set up on a track, in a race with a 104001 with the same gearing and electronics, and to see the sort of extra pace and reliability that four times the price gets me.
WLtoys has been a world of hurt for me too. The upgrade path is not clear and I had to do lots of modifications to make my friends car work with parts meant for the model I was working on.
Agreed, you get what you pay for. Many will buy the cheap WLToys “stuff” and then dump 3X the car price into trying to make it look like something hobby grade. Spend the money up front and save the hassles later on. The difference in the electronics alone justifies the price.
The front kickup does two things. It has a similar effect to adding caster in that it makes the car inherently want to track straight but it also makes the cars go over bumps more smoothly because the arms are angled upwards at the front a bit so are more responsive to the wheels hitting obstacles. Definitely a facepalm not accounting for it with the carbon chassis 🤦♂️
Probably slightly less speed but much better control and overall experience, the 104 just looks so cheap and far too flexible imo. Not what I'd expect from WL...
Hey man; I always love your work! I watch a lot of others, but I find your advice usually the most sound! I wanted to let you know that a lot of your links (maybe 90 pros) aren't working anymore! I know about cookies and that you are still making money, but I've been buying a lot and have had to buy your recommendations elsewhere. Maybe consider adding new links? New car/video recommendations in the descriptions for things that aren't available? That money is yours man!
I bought 2 of those wltoys buggies. One is still stock an still running. The other I put 100 bucks into it an turned it into a 3s beast. That also includes suspension an such. They aren't bad an haven't broke any of them yet.
Makerfire never sent my order placed on first week of April (lots of drama bs). They knew this car will be in pieces when hit my chop chop shop! ⚙ *'~💨
The numerical system totally confuses me with the wl toys, I suppose its something easy for the company, but I do like names lol, terrific build man she looks sharp no question!!
Prety easy if you know there system , ill explain ,The numers are 10 for scale then 4 for 4wd , then the model 001 , there first if they make another version it will be 104002 etc
I'm done with all the so called "budget" rc cars and trucks. I've had stuff break on HSP and WLtoys that I've never seen break before in 35 years in the hobby. Better for me to spend another hundred in the first place than to keep spending money on replacement parts for which there are no decent substitutes.
I ordered the LC Emb-1 about a month ago (hopefully it will be here soon). The reason was that I've been running my 144001 with some success and lots of failures for over a year. My mate showed up the the EMB1 and he thrashed it like hell and nothing NOTHING broke on it. Still like my 144001 although I'm on diff number 10 now. Besides that, the 144001 is pretty good.
I got so many parts I don't even need any more. So I took mine and threw it in the campfire then watched it burn. I agree with you 100% on this topic 100% great video everyone keep racing and don't let off the throttle
The front kick up is anti-dive on braking, the oppo of anti-squat on accel. Agreed, LC Racing makes some *VERY* nice kit. Have me the LC12B1 myself and all the upgrades. Brilliant little car that keeps up with almost anything when jumps are < 10' on track. (Carpet)
Not everyone buys one to automatically upgrade it. If your having a lot of fun just using it the way it is than its worth every penny. Comparing it to X-ray, a true racing machine is not fair. Has anyone looked at the cost of X-ray replacement parts. Comparing it to LC Racing also made in China, is fair if you intended to upgrade anyway.
How you remember all those numbers of those cars is beyond me. Wltoys must name their cars by punching the number pad on the keyboard. Yeah, naming cars is hard, but simply using last week's lottery numbers as the name isn't ideal either. Appreciate the honesty and love the humor. I've also got a car that became a parts donor after the first couple of runs... The Mammoth Blitz (I think that was the name). It was the clone of the HPI Apache. Anyway, this scenario reminds of what happened to me a few years back with that Mammoth thing. Some cars just aren't worth the money AT ALL, so really appreciate the honesty here. Well done. 👍😎
The first 2 numbers are the scale.... as for the others... your guess is as good as mine haha. I often will except that some stuff is a lesser quality, and that’s usually reflected in the price. But this thing was just pushed out off the hype of the smaller scale ones that everyone is running (which are decent for the money). Putting crappy electronics in, and sub standard metals ruined what good have been a half decent buggy. As for the Carbon.... well 😅
@@Clavitz1 Arrma, yes, Traxxas... depends on the model. Their base-model brushed cars are fine for starting out, anything brushless will likely have QC issues. Also, Traxxas tries to sucker you into their product ecosystem.
@@VestedUTuber only cars I know that have been reliable from Traxxas is the XMaxx, TRX-4 and Rustler 4x4 VXL. I'm not familiar with the term QC, what does that stand for?
@@Clavitz1 QC stands for "quality control". Traxxas tends to let lemons slip through the cracks more often than other brands. As an example, I actually have a Slash 4x4 VXL that will not move under its own power unless you push it first, and it was like that from the factory. This should have never been allowed to ship. The reason I would only recommend the brushed Traxxas vehicles for beginners has less to do with reliability and more to do with durability. Traxxas uses the same plastic parts on both the brushed models and their brushless counterparts, so the brushless models are more likely to break in the event of a crash due to them carrying significantly more kinetic energy. Technically this is also the case for Arrma's models but apart from some chassis issues with the Kraton platform Arrma tends to overbuild their cars to an extreme.
Multimeter is the best way to check CF for something fishy. Each layer should conduct through itself so you should be able to get continuity from one edge to the other at every layer. It won't conduct between the layers well though.
@@dailyprophet6641 that's not really a concern. The weave can have a major impact but it has to be designed in. Parts like this are cnc cut from mass produced sheets, its all woven, usually in 45 or 90 degree offsets for each layer.
U have to spend an extra 150-200$ to get the 104001 up to the level of the losi so I agree. It's probly best to by the losi straight away and save some time. Very informative vid!! Cheers n good day!!
You'll never get a wltoys to a quality of tlr, team asso, Schumacher etc. No matter how much money you throw at them. The quality oft the plastics and the aluminium especially is just bad. And the upgrade aluminium parts are just as horrible. The 144001 is the only decent car in their lineup, and only so if you leave it in its stock form with its mild brushed setup.
I ended up making a one-piece CF top plate which significantly improved the chassis stiffness. Also used went with some softer springs all around to get some good droop. What’s crazy is a lot of the plates on the WL car are steel, not even aluminum and super heavy. This car also needs a slipper of some sort otherwise you’ll keep breaking gears.
I'm glad that I canceled my order for this car. Got my money back and instead I bought 1/10 Team Corally SBX 10 bugy kit. It is nearly the same price like your LC racing but it is worth it. Good video again Mr. Phil
3 steps of r n d. 1. make the best product ever. 2. find ways to make it cheap as much as possible without breaking the initial product. 3. using cosmetics to hide details that give off the cheapness.. 4. go back to step 2 and see what else you can remove and make 2 variants without the "exclusive" better equipment.. 5. just like step 3 but to cover the new variant flaws to make the better model look " more expensive" and justify a 200$ price bump.
If that's carbon fibre it's very very very badly made. Firstly the fact that you peeled it apart and secondly the whole point of carbon fibre is how ridged a part can be for less weight. Junk.
I was going to do some up grade to my buggy and the chassis was one of them as well as going brushless, but getting the original pinion gear grub scew is a bit rounded of I think. Think I might have to drill it out. No Alan key fits
✌🏻😎🏴Welcome to the club 😂. I was worried about you when you had your fingers trapped but the second you got free I burst out laughing 😂 Cracked me up for some reason 😂.
Why not swap the chassis on the wltoys for an LC Racing chassis if they're just clones? Would the holes line up? Would be nice to know, and I'm sure an LC Racing chassis can't be too expensive tho I may be wrong.
I appreciate the honesty I thought of buying one and making it nice but not now I didn’t feel you were too rough bc you buy the cheap one and break it you’re just out the around $200.00 you could be almost into something nice
They are the same. I have the 1/14 scale right here of both brands. Exact same, you actually think they manufacture them in different factories? learn how the world works people.
@@createsomefun No its not. Stop lying. Does your wltoys have a slipper clutch? You don't own an LC Racing car. I do. I also own a wltoys car and a Losi Mini 8ight-T.
for making the carbon parts they are just milled out of a flat sheet of carbon. they just use a cnc machine. The problem of the aluminum with wl toys is that aluminum has many grades and some have no memory of shape.
i want those foam wheels/tires you have on the 144001... please let me know what they are.. i swear they sell the one you hate with a metal chassis currently.. i dont think that shock tower is carbon fiber.. maybe just a sticker
Great video. Just saw these upgrades on banggood and thought about buying these but so glad you did this video. I'm so glad I didn't by the car. It really does not look as strong as the other Wltoys. Thanks for saving me some money. Think ill save for better quality like the Typhon or something like that. Keep up the great work 👍....
Totally agree with you. This 104001 and the bad quality of the CVD of the 144001 /124018 /124019. Makes me change to VRX still cheap and so much better quality I'm so happy with my VRX Cobra. You should test one in your Chanel. Would be epic for sure.
@@TomleyRC yes I have seen that video also carbon chasis and China manufacturer but it worked fine on the VRX. That means if you use the correct materials it will work.
I SOOOOOO APPRECIATE you saving me the troubles you’ve had. After the second delay from Banggood and watching your reviews, I asked to switch my order to another model that I love (DBX10, if I recall correctly.)
Did Kev review the LC racing a while back? I remember he did a carbon fiber bangcock buggy review. I'm thinking of getting a serpent brushless buggy for $269 off amain
The VRX Spirit is the one Kev did review. I have the VRX Cobra and for a cheap Chinese brant this is really impressive quality. I have 3 Wltoys and the Cobra I would not get any wltoys anymore after see the Cobra it's so much better. Just need to put oil in the diffs before running. That's it. Have Bashing around hit full speed curb nos landing backlanding after send it and only broke the bumper. So great great cars this VRX for the money. If you can get one for less then 200€ in Ali go for it, you will not regret.

as soon as the purple buggy is $90 shipped off ebay i will order... i really do like my 2 wltoys 144001's and they can be made into any car you want them to be...
I own LC R Truggy and I like it, the problem is that aincan move motor any wider becaise wanted to do speedruns on bigger gears than stock ones :) Still did 84km/h :)
Hahaha Marty would be stoked 🤣 In the bin!!!😝You need to get one of their "in the bin" shirts mate, mines on its way 🗑 Ps. That civic turned out alright hey! 😏 Ohhh hahaha and I also enjoyed the rest of the vid 🤣
What if you use multiple shock towers and longer screws to achieve the same thickness what it cost more? Like I said using one shock tower use two of them on each end.
Hallo, Generally, you are of course right…👍 And of course, you clearly say that this is your personal opinion and decision… 👍 And you are also clearly explain the significant difference in price, which logically leads into technical differences, also… 👍 Now, with 1:10th scale WLtoys goes into the field of an existing, popular, official RC race-class. However, most people being interested in the new WLtoys 1:10 buggy are having their history with the smaller scale WLtoys models using those for many, many different things, but not a lot for actually racing on a RC track…and luckily those smaller models are able to handle most, what people like to do with them… 👍 Main advantage factors within this common usage: • …the "little ones" are quite solid…👍 •… and due to their small size and little wight they can be quite easily over-powered; their "out of the box" power performance is already extraordinary… 👍 Now, with the significant heavier 1:10 buggy these advantage factors are gone. Actually, this is just a logical process…😉 So, to get the similar performance out of the 1:10 like used from the smaller ones, it needs quite a lot of and RC car craftmanship experience. It is a little bit like in the time, when we just had to modify the existing race-kits to make them competitive; nowadays this is not necessary anymore. The existing race-kits are all very competitive right out of the box… 😉…it mainly depends on driving, setup and racing-tactic skills… 😉 Therefore, if I would want to go into the 1:10 4WD buggy "high end" category, I would not go with a newcomer in this field like LC Racing; unless I would enjoy to be some sort of pioneer, showing that even a newcomer brand can be competitive, also… 😉. Of course, such a project can be very fascinating and satisfying, and I know about this very nice kick, because many years ago I have very successfully raced TRAXXAS in 2WD buggy and race-truck German nationals. Going with LC Racing nowadays would be pretty much the same… 😉 But doing such a project, it is harder to be competitive than with a model from the established brands. They all have so much experience, support and team backup, which can be very easily used very effective from every driver…with LC Racing you would be pretty much alone on yourself… The only advantage would be that LC Racing seems to be a little bit better in price. profimodel.cz/de/profi-auta/290418-lc10b5001.html?gclid=CjwKCAjw-qeFBhAsEiwA2G7Nl25ajH9-qWv-0_VNpBI-SYAZox6nBFS38b4MoT_D8dYzAsIsliXUZxoCENMQAvD_BwE hk-modellbau.com/default.asp?ex=shop/produktseite.asp&kat_id=43&ak=1 But is this enough to compensate for all the advantages with the established brands…? 🤔😉😂😊… Keep on having a great RC FUN time…!!! 🍀 Thorsten 🌞 RACER - Budget RC Fun Team Germany 🍻 😉😂😊…
