I'm new to your channel. I had been researching Thailand and the Philippines, but recently I got into a LDR with a young lady from Vientiane, Laos. You have helped me to explore the sites, sounds, the people and the culture of Laos. Thanks for sharing! I will continue to follow your channel.
That dish is called "Dtom nong wua" (ต้มน้องวัว) in Thai. Yes, it's most definitely placenta. Did you try it? I never have, but would if I had the chance. It's a rarity, so considered a delicacy by many people. Placenta, like all organ meat, is loaded with nutrients. When I was younger, I didn't like organ meat, but the older I get, the more I like it. There's a woman that sells Hainanese chicken rice in my area. When I first went there, she served me the most basic version; just skinless chicken breast on top of rice. I finally started ordering it with the blood cakes and organ meat, which can be liver, kidney, gizzards (stomach), and heart depending on day and when you get there. There's a reason the organs were offered to elders after a hunt in hunters gatherer societies. People recognized over time that organ meat conferred special benefits.
Never tried it before and was too full to rate it unfortunately. I don't usually get weirded out by most things, but think cause I was so full I kept thinking of that little calf I just met and what I was eating. haha I'm a big fan of ต้มแชบ with all the innards. Definitely have to try it again.
