The amount of positivity in this video reminds me of why I subscribed to you. It wasn't because you were the greatest fisherman that I could learn from or a Michelin star chef (no offense intended for both comments) but because you always turned a negative situation into a positive one and that's something I always respected and appreciated. I haven't watched your videos in a while, but today I was having a bad day but stayed positive and I just so happened to watch your videos. You inspire me to be a better person simply because of your positivity. I wish the very very best for you throughout 2017 and beyond. My wish for you is that you reach 1M subscribers soon so that this can provide you steady income and you can provide us with a lot of content. Thank you Zoffinger

My mom, step-dad and I live on a boat too. 42' Chris Craft motor yacht in st. augustine, and I honestly love it. I'm 6'2 and I hit my head on everything but it's well worth the experience and the ability to tell my children that I lived on a boat when I was a kid.

Dear kc2jfs, Marty Zoffinger did default on his Fannie Mae loan, I looked it up and found out. You are right about the fact he defaulted. What I don't know and suspect you don't know is why. For lots of people it doesn't take much to disrupt a life. My grandfather lost his homestead during the depression because he didn't have the 300.00 to pay the taxes. The timber on the property is now worth millions. I guy that owed me money declared bankruptcy to avoid paying me and all of the other folks he stiffed. He kept his house, car, and the stuff he bought and defaulted on. Two people with two different reasons. Stuff happens in life and the best we can do is to learn from it and move on. We all need help sometimes even you. Don't be to quick to judge Marty unless you have a lot more evidence.
@zoffinger

Thanks Bob. Had I stayed, I was destined to lose everything AND default. The boat was my parachute. Less than the cost of the roof which needed replacing. Or the central air which didn't work. Or the septic tanks which were bad... My hope was that the bank wouldn't lose too much, so I left the house intact (appliances, etc.) Probably stupid on my part. That commenter didn't know the days I had fearing not having money for food so I could make my mortgage payments nor foregoing doctor visits due to the cost, nor the tremendous personal loses I endured by staying as long as I did. His opinions were arguable and perhaps valid, but uneducated (not knowing my situation, like you said) and filled with too much hate, so I banned his comments. Leaving that house was like leaving five of my big boats behind. Devastating to me. Despite his assessment of me not having any 'skin' in the game. It was however, my chance at finally pursuing happiness by ridding myself of the vampirous hold that house had on me.

My father work hard every day. rain, snow, flood, sick or not he worked hard to build a life for our family. he came to america with a wife and 3 kids and one on the way with nothing but the visa provided to him by the american government.. Fleeing Laos when america decided to pull out since he spied on viet cong movement along the laos border and reported to the cia as soldier in the Laos army. He worked hard Every day and talked about after he retired how he would spend more time with the family, do more things and live the life he built. But he never did. he stayed alive long enough to see me turn 14 and passed away on nov. 20, 1996 after a short battle with stage 3 lung cancer. You cant go through life expecting to live tomorrow when your life happening now. you can always live life and still plan for the future. if That house was keeping you from living your life. than let it go. In the end its just stuff. you only get one life. a person can die regretting they never lived, but people rarely regret dying after they have lived life.

Material possessions can all too often be an anchor around your neck. What matters in life is being as alive as you can be and enjoying every minute of it that you can to the fullest extent with the least amount of regrets in the end. Hopefully this will be the turning point in your life that will make your life better than it ever was. :) I'm shooting positive vibes your way bro. Keep the faith.

I moved to Tampa Bay 3 months ago bc of you Marty. I'm currently in Pinellas Park. I plan to move to St Pete next year but thanks for introducing me to this area. Snook season was awesome and catching redfish from onshore is so fun. This has been a big change from just going out a mile to catch pelagics but with no boat anymore its still great fishing. Good luck on your new journey and thanks for being part of mine.

In moving out of your landed house, you're living the dream. And in doing so, me being where I am, you being where you are, and everyone else being wherever everyone else are, you've became bigger than just you. Not met you in person before, but this is as close as it gets to feeling a real human connection. Long may it continue!

Oh Marty - Merry Christmas. A little story. I used to live a huge 2k SQFT .5 acre house in Texas. Back in 2009 I got fed up with the "more more more" lifestyle and sold everything to live on a boat then a RV then a boat again. What you are going through reminds me of my life. I got married in 2011, and had a baby. We live aboard and travel often. Getting rid of my man cave stuff was the toughest. I can see you are having the same problem. I donated a ton to claim taxes, then gave a lot away. selling a few items on Ebay, but mostly just had to get rid of stuff. Once you do you WILL feel so much better. You do not need 12 rods or 4 drills, and 3 1/4" socket wrenches. Cheers to you. Go on and live life.

Hey Marty, When I think back over the years I lose track of all the adventures I've lived. I moved out at the age of 15 and started my life on my own. I had so many room mates to go with the countless apartments. I lived, loved and struggled for many years. Now at 57 a husband of 32 years and the father of 3 I realize I would not have changed a thing. You live by the decisions you make as you go. Some good and some you regret but you learn something new from everyone. I wish you the best and you are going to do great things!

Dude seriously your videos are an inspiration to me! In my opinion you're living the dream, going fishing everyday and on constant adventures. No worries on giving up the home. While homes can be a good investment and give you some freedom in life (when they're paid off), when they strip away your freedom and happiness, its just not worth it.

I've been watching long before the Hobie back to the early Poor Man's Fishing Kayak and have been inspired by your creativity and desire to share your skill in fishing and it coming up with creative ideas to improve your boats. The videos are thoughtful and well done. Please stay positive, keep the videos coming. From the vast majority of those that have commented you have a lot of friends. If you ever get out to the Seattle area let me know. I live about 20 miles from the Canadian border and we have some wicked good fishing here and many terrific microbreweries. I would be proud to offer you a beer.

I'm trying to learn how to fish so I came across your fish stringer video randomly. This was the second video I watched and I know exactly the feeling you had turning off the lights for that final one time. It is that last walk through before you close the door to one chapter in your life and onto the next. I can say that my hearts been heavy each and every time I've done the same closing that door. Life truly is a journey of different paths and certainly not a straight road. Subscribed and can't wait to see where you're headed next. Cheers!

While it is a sad day to sell everything and do what you love, always remember that most people don't get to do that. They usually die in their homes, or get stuck in a nursing home and the kids get the home, they worked all of their life for. Because that's always been the structured plan. Pay taxes as long as you can, one way or the other. My uncle always told me "never own more than you can carry on your back." It took me a lifetime to understand what he meant by that. Only now in the final quarter of my life am I able to understand that. He was right all along. I hope to someday (it better be soon!) to do the same thing. Sell everything and live on the sea. That's heart my heart is, not chained to the rich man making him richer, trying to scrape by every week. I may never be able to do it, but I'll still dream about it, until I can't dream any more. I'm glad you got to do it!

Man, that must have been hard to do after all the work you did around the place. But fair play to you, it takes real courage to embark on a new life. There is bound to be some regret at what you left behind but it should be balanced by the excitement of what lies ahead. Hopefully we'll be seeing some great videos of your adventures. I hope everything goes well for you (I'm sure it will). I'm an angler too in England, where the fishing style is much different, so its nice to see the way you do it (and how good you are at it!). Thanks for sharing Marty, been watching for a while, love your story, no stories are all good but I never know at the time if I'm going to ever look back and appreciate a moment, only one way to find out.. I went homeless on a search for a new life 3 months ago and so far I'm very thankful for the expiriences that choice gave me, I'm loving life more than ever and building a new life, have fun brother!!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Yak to you too! You did it. I know it's hard to let these things go. You'll soon forget and will be happier without them.

I know my major lifestyle change was scary, but only because of the unknown future. Hang in there and before you know it, the new lifestyle will feel like it has always been. Best wishes for you Marty and Merry Christmas and all the best for the New Year.

Marty my man, I'm very excited to hear those engines start up! I've watched your videos and learned since before the boat came into picture. I mean back when you had less than 30k subscribers. I'm patiently waiting to see you and your friend take your boat out on its first maiden voyage!!
