For those curious, Soundwave wasn't based directly on any portable tape player, but we likely inspired by one of Sonys first walkmans, which is notably silver and blue. But the acutal soundwave body is closer in form to a boombox.

I just love the little nod to the fandom they made with Frenzy and Rumbles names for these versions (for context both of their names are acronyms, FIBRIR- Frenzy is Blue, Rumble is Red, and FIRRIB- Frenzy is Red, Rumble is Blue). I think the reason why the transformation is relatively simple is mainly due to the original toy being as good as it was. Helps that the cartoon didn't overly modifie his designe to an exaggerated degree. Like others I'm not mentioning *Galces towards G1 Megatron*

Totally agree - the original toy was one of the few toys from the G1 that was a great looking robot with good movement and great walkmen. Most of the G1 Autobot vehicles were ugly looking in robot mode.

They also have working earphones that are rumble and frenzy, those where a fucking travesty though and it annoying that you had to swap out soundwaves hands to be able to use his guns when in robot mode so I just left it in the box

As a guy born in the mid-1980's, I thoroughly enjoyed this review. It was amazing, and the satisfaction of hearing those joints was sublime. (I think I found my satisfying ASMR... wow.) And, as someone who saw gen one on mornings and afternoons as a child, along with the older g-1 toys, yes, it is accurate. Also, I knew micro-cassettes as just "cassette tapes," and VHS tapes as simply "video tapes."

In case you see this, since it’s a year late, some Chinese eBay sellers are actually selling this figure for much cheaper; primarily around $180. Still probably not as ideal, but much more okay-ish in the grand scheme of Masterpiece Transformers price ranges.

Biggest bloody oxymoron in the hobby. 🤣 Nah, forget realistic-looking rivets and panels and working joint pistons and working shocks and all that so that the alt-mode looks like a perfectly-reproduced scale model -- give me something that looks like a cheaply-animated cartoon riddled with errors, takes an extra day to transform, has loads of flap compromises, and costs an extra hundred bucks, please! 🙄

While Starscream makes you want to scream because making a toon styled one is at best going to look MP Starscream 3.0. Then agaim no one is building them the way your thinking. Literally haven’t bought a transformer toy in over 10 years and haven’t seen the original movie or show since I was a kid, but G1 Soundwave was always my absolute favorite and as a kid I always dreamed of being able to buy a G1 Soundwave toy (back then thinking $30 was a lot lol) As soon as I watched this video I practically ordered this on the spot, even at its steep price, this looks absolutely amazing and is everything I could’ve ever hoped for in a G1 Soundwave figure, I can’t wait till it arrives!

when it comes to who's Rumble and who's Frenzy, both are technically correct. yes in the cartoon Rumble is blue and Frenzy is red, but when sold as toys, Rumble is red and Frenzy is blue. so either or is fine, it's just up to preference

Facts: In the original 80's G1 Transformers toyline, Rumble is red and Frenzy is blue. In the G1 cartoon, Rumble is blue and Frenzy is red.

Man this thing looks amazing! The replacement parts to give the figure a toy accurate look are cool as well. My only real issue is that Rumble (Sue me) is blue in his cassette mode which is inaccurate, although is seems as though it would be easy enough to re-paint or re-sticker.
