Funnily enough, that was what made me realize it was DEFINITELY a doppelganger. When I first watched the show like a week ago, I thought she was the real Wendy, just caught in the world's trap of "anything you wish for" which is why she is acting a bit strange, but still seemingly realistic. Right up until I saw that wink and my mind flashed back to that one scene with the Mimic, when I KNEW something was wrong since that isn't something she does, unlike the zip motion to "say nothing".

That`s so true. But I think, a perfect prison doesn`t mean that everything is great and fine. If you can achieve and get everything in no time and with no efford there is no meaning in living anymore. A perfect world needs good things but also bad things so that you learn to appreciate the good ones.

Yes! And while it's understandable to be impatient that this entire episode is basically nothing but this plot, this interaction... it's also really fitting for the show to bring Dipper and Mabel together like this. To give a final episode to bringing together some of the main themes that Alex Hirsch meant the show to be about -- growing up too fast, versus being afraid to grow up; strengthening family ties, instead of splitting apart. (There's a quote from him, I think in the DVD commentaries, where he said that all of the plot and the mysteries and the apocalypse -- that's stuff that happens, but it's not *what the show is about*. This here. This is what it's about.) Now we're well set up for Dipper and Mabel to be a unified force going into the finale! Watch out, Bill!

I agree with your last paragraph so much! I honestly think Mabel gets too much hate, maybe even from Mosco at times, because of Mabel’s behavior and character traits. But they’re pretty normal traits and behaviors among kids her age in real life, same with Dipper’s obsession with growing up too fast. A lot of people could relate to Mabel’s struggles at some point in their childhoods a lot more than they admit or recognize. And like Mabel or not, she’s a fantastically written and acted character, just like the rest of the cast! She’s done perfectly for what Alex and crew wanted to do for her character. And that makes me appreciate her just as much as her good traits! And it’s fine to not like Mabel, because liking and disliking characters is a personal thing. But when it gets to the level of hating on and bashing characters repeatedly, especially child characters like Mabel, I admit it makes me uncomfortable. It’s like certain fanfiction that was common in the 2000s where you would read it for the shipping or plot, and then suddenly the author would take so much time out of the fic to bash, and even demonize a character, even though it came out of nowhere and broke the flow of the story just so the author could be petty and attack a character they hate. That’s what a lot of the Mabel hate I’ve seen feels like. There’s been some that have made almost hour long videos of why they think Mabel is a bad character and person. It’s just a lot, and I don’t think it’s really deserved. Because it feels like they’re going out of the realm of personal opinion on her, and into trying to justify their opinions as somehow objectively true. I’m not saying Mosco is like any of that, I know she’s just not a fan of Mabel. And she thinks Dipper is treated unfairly, a lot of the time in Mabel’s favor. I don’t disagree with that. Dipper is my favorite, and I still wish he got treated better to this day. But I still feel a little uncomfortable sometimes with how much Mosco hates Mabel, even though it’s irrational for me to feel that way. So as much as this was an overall funny reaction video, as are all of her’s, it got hard to watch sometimes when Mabel was dragged.

@@cloudstrife4534 the main issue is that the show never properly addresses mabel's behaviors the same way it does dipper's, not so much the behaviors themselves. the show treats her character flaws as lovable quirks and she hardly learns any lessons throughout the entire show

Honestly I'm almost more enraged at Dipper's argument being entirely based on the value of the imaginary world vs reality when the fricking apocalypse is happening and people will die, genocide in fact, extinction level event even. I get what the writers were going for, it has strong themes, good conclusion to character arcs but sometimes character-driven stories go too far, they should still acknowledge and be coherent alongside the plot itself. Almost nothing is purely plot driven or character driven, you will always need a balance even if it skews toward one side, and that episode fails in that regard for me.

I agree with everything except with the "THAT is where I think people like Dipper and Ford are fully in the wrong" part. Dipper and Ford NEVER suggested that to grow up they had to throw what they loved away, Dipper was always invested in mysteries and supernatural, so was Ford, they just decided to take that as their carreers. If anything they are another example that just because you grow up you don't have to give it up.

@@dracoangelrojo I hear ya but in Dipper's case; since the beginning, he seemed so bent on trying to FORCE his way into maturity. He tried to be tough, he tried to pick a fight with a guy twice his size (Robbie,) he insulted Mabel to her face about trick r treating just so he could "look cool" in front of Wendy and his obsession with chest hair (while typical for a preteen boy) seemed cringy to me. At least, Dipper learned his lesson from MOST of this but who knows if he'll keep his word and at least TRY to have some childlike fun while he's on the next weird mystery hunt. As for Ford, it took the near end of existence to make HIM realize his way of doing things was off; especially how he ended things with Stan. I don't want the same thing to happen to Dipper is all

@@SilverScribe85 I won't deny that Dipper did try to force his way into maturity, but you're placing the wrong examples and twisting what happened: Yes, he tried to be tought, because Stan and Mabel bullied him about his masculinity; he did NOT try to pick up a fight with Robbie, it was Robbie who tried to beat him up and threatened him into the fight, remember Dipper didn't want to fight with him and everyone left him to fend for himself, and he definitely NEVER insulted Mabel to her face, for crying out loud, the entire point to lie to Mabel about being sick was to spare her and not hurt her feelings. And the chest hair, again, that was Stan's and Mabel's fault for bullying him, he wasn't obsessed, it was them who brought it up. Dipper has already showed to have childlike fun all the time, just because he has different interests and hobbies than Mabel doesn't mean he isn't. Eh, I would say Stan is equally to blame as Ford on this part. But that's the thing, the reason why fallout between the Stans took place was because of lack of communication and misshandling the situation, specially on Stan's part, and hurting Ford in the process. This is why the kids needed to talk it out, not having poor Dipper being blamed for all the mess and being forced to give up his dreams and future like that. There should have been a compromise, not having him giving up everything for Mabel again. If they don't want to end up like the Stans, they need to start talking and listening to each other, and respect each other, specially on Mabel's part.

Yeah, it seemed like she was trying to count the minutes, or something? But she may not realize (??? unless someone's explained it to her before, of course) that a regular episode of a "half hour" show is about 22 minutes; you have to leave time for commercials. (Think about all of those times that we got a shortened opening sequence, just so they could fit in an extra, like, 30 seconds, or 1 minute!) So the final episode is only about 40 minutes or whatever, but it really is 2 episodes' worth of time.

The subtle background cameo of Rick Sanchez from Rick and Morty was a nice confirmation that GF, The Owl House, Rick and Morty, and Amphibia all share the same reality.

* Jon Stewart. Jon was an actual "fan" of the show -- his kids watched it, and he watched it with them. (That was partly because Kristen Schaal was doing Mabel's voice, and at that time, Kristen was one of the "Special Correspondents" on The Daily Show, and thus a friend of his.) So it was a mutual thing, Jon very much wanted to do a voice for the show, but he had a REALLY busy schedule. It's great that he was able to do it before the show's end. (The voice he does for the Judge, the sort of fake Southern accent, is one that he would do on his own show when he was mocking various politicians.)

I think she's mentioned before that she took a look at some of the promotional images of Amphibia and doesn't like the art style. I think she said she may watch it on her own time eventually but not make it into a reaction series. A shame - it's actually my favourite of the three shows, but you can't appeal to everyone after all.

Realize at the end she kinda snaps out a trance saying she doesn't get why it's so bright and why she was listening to that one song playing over and over she was obviously in a trance of some sort that kinda threw away ALL her common sense

@lucidifying That's not magic though, that's delusion. We call that the honeymoon period, where something seems amazing while ignoring the not-so-great parts. Remember, Bill can't control someone without making a Deal. Transform them, maybe, but not make then do stuff against their wishes.

You are absolutely right, but honestly, they misshandled her completely. Her feelings are understandable, but it doesn't justify her actions, and she gets rewarded for them and the narrative paints her in the right...after everything she just did.

And yes, she faced no consequences for her actions, and therefore she didn't develope as a character. Considering this is a tv show based on growing up and Mabel being the co-protagonist, it's a huge flaw that she didn't grow at all, when that was supposed to be her arc that she never did in the first place.

​@@dracoangelrojo I don't understand how you can say "she didn't grow at all" when the entire premise of this episode is Dipper slowly convincing Mabel to recognise her bad behaviour (Her selfish tendency to pursue her own happiness without considering the effects this has on other people) and move on from it. Her growth is *especially* noticeable when you consider that she was probably under some sort of spell/trance while in Mabel-Land that took away some of her agency ('Wait, why is everything so bright? Have I been listening to the same song all week?") -- her selfishness was being reinforced by Bill's magic, and she *still* managed to overcome it by the end of the episode! I'm not saying she's a perfectly written character or anything, but you're giving her arc way too little credit imo.

Well... the last episode is basically 2 episodes in length. That would be approx. 42 minutes or so. (Because a "half hour" show on American television is always shorter, around 22 minutes give or take, so that the channel can run commercial breaks. So a 1 hour show doesn't contain 60 full minutes of actual show. Unfortunately!)

But originally broadcast as one double-length episode. I hope she watches them together!

Sad but true, this episode the living proof of it. Seriously, Mabel replacing Dipper, refusing to help him and their friends and family, sending him to a trial to actively kick him out into the apocalypse, and she only backtracks once she gets what she wanted, which was Dipper giving up the apprenticeship. It feels so manipulative and cruel. I know the message they were trying to send, but they delivered it in a terrible way: Mabel was a huge jerk and a brat in this episode towards her friends and family, refuses to save the town, and forces her brother to choose between his future and dreams OR her in the middle of the end of the world, which should have never happened in the first place, and once she gets what she wanted, that's the only point where she accepts, and then she gets away scott free. Again, the message was good, the executtion was terrible and toxic and misshandles the main themes of the series. This is why to me it's the worst episode of the series.

The song and dance that he’s giving Dipper here is the exact song and dance that he gave McGucket back when they were younger - ‘You and I are different. We’re better than everyone else. We have a path that no one else can understand. No one else can do this.’ It’s a very seductive idea for Dipper, but he starts to be a little insecure. He kind of can’t believe it, and he’s sort of right to be suspicious, because while Dipper is a smart kid, Ford is projecting. Ford loves Dipper because he sees someone who will tell him ‘yes’ to everything, who will never challenge him, and who will do a really insane, dangerous mission. I know there are some fans who are like ‘Oh, this is a great offer! Dipper should just become a mystery hunter for the rest of his life, not go to high school, not go to college, not be around kids his age…’ But if Dipper had taken the apprenticeship, he probably would have gone the way of McGucket - Turned into a kind of insane, paranoid hermit with no friends, and just kind of losing his mind. So, it is a seductive offer, but ultimately, Dipper needs to try to learn not to grow up too fast.” I've commented this multiple times but it ticks me off when people consider Fords offer as good because it isn't and it never will be it's an awful offer that dipper should've just declined right away

@@lucidifying You are talking as if Mabel threatning Dipper to give up the apprenticeship was done as a favor to Dipper and having his interest in thought when it was never the case, as if Mabel wasn't entirely doing that for her own benefit. Mabel didn't convince Dipper, she FORCED Dipper to give up the apprenticeship to convince her to come out of the bubble or she would throw him out in the end of the world. That's not convincing and it's not a good thing, it's incredibly toxic. It's DIPPER'S choice to stay, NOT Mabel's, and she has no right to take that decision or make it from him, and NO one has the right to force someone to choose between dreams and family, and very less during the end of the world. Alex's word is one thing, the show's writing is another. Alex also says that neither Filbrick nor Preston were abusives and loved their kids, which as we saw in the show, is bullcrap. The show's writing is more important than Alex's word, specially if it's contradicted. I don't need you to tell me what Alex said in the commentary, I heard it myself years ago when it came out and I bought it myself, thank you very much. And I'm sorry, but Alex's words and his writing are completely opposite things: First of all, he claims Ford only loves Dipper because he says yes to everything he does, as in if Dipper was just an extention of his ego, which is downright not true, we've seen this man SACRIFICING himself JUST to protect these kids, and respecting their wishes. Second of all, he claims that Dipper would end up like Mcgucket, ignoring that Mcgucket's downfall was Mcgucket's own fault, remember that it was him who dealt with the trauma wrong by creating the memory gun, IGNORED Ford's warnings to destroy it as it could cause brain damage, and Fiddleford, instead of listening to his friend who was trying to protect him, USED said weapon against anyone he wished to, Ford included, and then created the Society of the Blind Eye, and proceeded to force people to forget against their will and causing an entire town brain damage. Mcgucket going insane was his own fault and were his own flaws, which have nothing to do with Dipper's personality or flaws. Third of all, Alex talks as if the best alternative for Dipper is going back to school, when in the show, we have LITTERALLY seen Dipper being bullied and outcasted for years in those flashbacks, and Dipper claimed already how no one believes him and treats him like crazy because of the supernatural. Going back home where you get bullied and treated like a freak and forbidden to study what you love and for being yourself is NOT healthy, whereas Gravity Falls has given Dipper EVERYTHING he needed: friends like Soos, Wendy, Pacífica, the multibear, etc, mysteries that he loves, an entire town and mysteries to explore, his grunkles, one of them his hero, a chance to study and live from what he loves to do, if anything staying would have been perfect to him, and there were many ways he could have made it work out with Mabel, like chatting, videochatting, Dipper taking the apprenticeship during the summers, Mabel staying, there were MANY ways they could have solved this without separating the twins. Alex valuing a "regular common childhood" over Dipper's actual happiness doesn't help or make him in the right, if anything, it makes him a hypocrite, since he spends the ENTIRE show preaching about how good it is to be weird, only to turn around and say "nah, Dipper needs to be normal already and suck it up". Proclaiming Dipper has to give up his dreams and his happiness to make Mabel happy and for the sake of being normal goes against the theme of the show and is a terrible toxic message. Ford's offer is NOT awful and it will never be, just because it goes against Mabel's wishes and it's not the regular way to study doesn't make it awful. I'm sick and tired of people dismissing Dipper's dreams and aspirations and portraying Ford like the bad guy just because he was the only one actually supporting Dipper.
