i've been having this problem: owning all of europe, decided to go for USA, Canada and Australia, now everyone tries to get my ass, always doing crackdowns or purges. I think the AI knows that im overextended and goes for my ass. I guess i will have to drop australia and consolidate my power on northamerica, that goes as a tip for anyone trying the game aswell.

I agree that Potato is just too overextended on the space. But is he preventing really other factions to do stuff on the planet? He's well under his Point Cap, and is focusing his efforts in Europe. The US, China and China is all in the hands of the other factions; they're the ones that are deciding to blow everything doing stupid wars or nukes, and not going to the space.
@StupidBoots
@StupidBoots 2 года назад
It's my experience in my game that not only do the other factions not really oppose the aliens effectively, but they also burn down their countries by investing heavily in spoils and not knowledge and economy. I 'inherited' the EU (minus Germany, which the protectorate has hollowed out and Spain) from the computer and the whole unified bloc has less stats than France had at the beginning of the game. Whereas I have consistently improved the stats and returns from the USNA.

Your base alien threat level goes up with your mission control point usage, you sitting at over 200 pretty much makes you their enemy #1. At this stage in the game you want to sit at under 90 if you want to not piss off the aliens. The game simply doesn't want you to completely dominate at such a fast pace. The same applies to human factions.
@orangedeamon1

You can test out ship designs you save in your campaign in the skirmish mode which is accessible from the main menu. Note the enemy's design name and you can do mock battles with ship classes you know you will face off against in the future. Try out all of the engines, fuel amounts, armaments, and layouts you want before committing those resources in your actual game. You can also see the effects of the various stats so you can learn what all of the numbers mean by doing, rather than just by calculating and hoping for the best. I hope this helps!

Engines, short version: Delta V is range, thrust is speed. Generally you're trading off between these. Ion drives give you really crappy thrust in exchange for extremely high Delta V and are great for noncombat interplanetary transports. For combat ships you'll want the opposite.
@danilooliveira6580

I think its at the same admirable and impressive that the developer has come up with an alien invasion scenario where their motivation seems rootet in biology and is (i think) a logical consequence of that. The fact that they do not launch a direct attack but cause chaos through the arrival and non-transparency of their targets is (I think) quite logical in this context. It is probably much easier to scout and take over an unsettled and divided world than one united by a common enemy. Also, this scenario is not as easy to discard (as most others), since they are not coming for resources (e.g. water) that are easier to find elsewhere, but because they want the one thing that is only found on Earth.

i don't know if you've realized it yet so sorry if you already know, but the 'apparent loyalty' stat is just a guess of your operatives loyalty, if you do an investigate on your own operative with another, it will tell you what their actual loyalty is. i would recommend getting someone with inspire action to start raising everyone's loyalty if you haven't done that yet to prevent them being turned and turn them back if any had been turned. also, i'm very entertained that you are playing academy, but your personality is clearly resistance and thats how your treating the aliens

I think the Aliens are going after you so hard because you have so much used mission control, having looked at what other players are doing atm the one who appears to be doing the best in his playthrough has less than half the mission control you do. General consensus so far seems to be you don't want to be over 90 used mission control before you get the research which reduces mission control threat, which then you don't want more than 120 ish until you can defend yourself comfortably. Also yeah Coups are pretty effective in Africa not that surprising.
@StupidBoots
@StupidBoots 2 года назад
So, I have 56 mission control used because the aliens completely scourge my bases constantly. I have two +25% techs and cannot keep enough space stations/bases going to make a net positive on my resources. What am I supposed to be doing to not constantly lose bases to 2K-7K fleet power fleets? My best ship design has about 250 power, but I cannot build more than a few before the fleet gets targeted. With my 2K power fleet, I could not get them to engage before they could bring a 7K fleet, and then I lost the entire fleet without doing damage to the aliens. I am defending territory on earth well enough, but every faction has declared war on me, even the ones I have never gone after (academy, humanity first) and I have easily lost more than 30 stations and bases at this point, including my Ceres bases four times, Mars three times, Luna twice, Mercury, Callisto, Ganymede, and a bunch of random asteroids that I can't even find again.
@AAhmou
@AAhmou 2 года назад
@@StupidBoots Even if you don't have mission control touching that limit, retaliating against the aliens REALLY angers them. Don't attack alien space assets unless you are either willing to suffer the consequences or you can properly defend yourself. Also the combat power is not a reflection of the aliens' actual abilities, it tends to get inflated since aliens have much better propulsion, their armor can be overwhelmed with numbers. The problem is either not having the numbers or the aliens sending one of their motherships.

One of the things I saw pop up in other people's videos - your mission control is huge and could be the reason why you're such a threat, so going under 110 or so should be the goal; or at least 130/140 (instead of 220) the goal is to have a good fleet before you start fighting, also adamantine or nanotube is a good armour there are nr under each armor placement, seemingly atm you only need like 1 middle and 10.15 on the right (front)

*Potato takes aggressive actions against all other factions, control half of the planet and has 300+ mission control* "WHY DO THEY HATE ME ?" also doesn't the game let you build ships with different types of drives ? it would be pretty useful if you could have a combat drive with less DV but high thrust and a cruising drive with low thrust but high DV on the same ship. it feels like it should be an research.
@zerg0s
@zerg0s 2 года назад
You can only have one drive per ship, sadly. Likely because chemical rockets exist. Those things have incredible trust and absolutely horrible DeltaV, so pairing them with something with great DeltaV would just give you access to alien tech drives without needing the alien tech.
@danilooliveira6580
@danilooliveira6580 2 года назад
@@zerg0s I mean you would only need to lock it behind tech and give some drawbacks, like massive increase in weight, reducing the efficiency of both drives and extremely low fuel for the combat drives. because having a cruise drive and a combat drive just makes sense, we hardly see it in the real world because its not worth it, but for combat ships having a high thrust and high DV options makes sense.

@tlpineapple1
@tlpineapple1 2 года назад
@@danilooliveira6580 Because its just not practical. The game goes for a "as realistic as possible" approach for its space combat, and in real life, trying to put 2 different engines with vastly different fuel types on the same stage would be ridiculously complex and equire a much larger engineering commitment. As you say, they could do it just for the gameplay by reducing that stats of them both, but why would you? Its far easier and cheaper to just use chemical rockets for your planetary defense fleets, and use high DV rockets to send out "colony" ships to set up new bases. Potatoes insistence on having his ships have such high DV for ships hes never sending outside of their respective planetary systems is part of whats giving him difficulty. In late game you can start getting some drives that combine both aspects, but thats much later.
@danilooliveira6580
@danilooliveira6580 2 года назад
@@tlpineapple1 because real life ships don't benefit from having two kinds of drives, its more problem than its worth it, but there is a reason why things like the VESMIR drive exists, being able to change from high to low ISP/thrust is useful. its specially important for warships, they need to be as maneuverable as possible during combat, but have high DV to patrol multiple orbits. having the ability to build ships with multiple different drives will just give the players more options for space fleet engagement strategies. you say its unrealistic, but there is a lot in the ship designer that is even more unrealistic, using different types of drives wouldn't be the worst offender, but what matters is that everything makes sense and are technically based on real life science, being able to have different drives would fit that requirement.

Potato you need to see PerunGamingAU’s playthrough. You’re getting rekked in space because of having too many things in Space. The game wants you to hover around 100 MC beyond which the aliens try to bomb your stuff till you get back to a 100. About engines: you want engines that have a high manuverability. Sacrifice delta v. High delta V is long haul stuff. Try to get ships with 2gees of acceleration etc to be able to dodge alien missiles when in combat. Again, see Perun’s stuff!

Delta V is kinda like the fuel capacity on a car, you need a certain amount of fuel to get to a certain place, and the farther the place is from the starting point the more fuel you need, expect the amount of Delta V required increase if the starting point has more gravity, and if you have more than the required Delta V you get to the end point faster. This is kinda a weird explanation for Delta V but I hope it helps! The true way to think about Delta V is how much the velocity changes form engine start to engine cut off(when you run out of fuel) or Delta V = Integral from t0 to t1 of Thrust(t)/Mass(t).

@edhikurniawan
@edhikurniawan 2 года назад
The problem with that, if the alien refuses to fight your fleet. The game only has DV bid which most chem rocket doesn't have. In comparison, if you have an ion ship which have a lot of Ship power and doing this bid, you'll always win the bid. Most alien ship come to LEO in my playthrough had like 450DV available. I bid 450, win the bid, then exit the battle. Now the alien will left stranded there with 0DV. Unable to go anywhere. And if the alien economy is real, they have a garbage can't do anything there, clogged their command point. I had a hydrogen fueled ship with 500ish DV for that. Either that, or you can send a puny ship with an ECM to strip the ammo of the stranded ship, then your real fleet finish it.

Loving this series so much!! One thing about coups is that you can look at your chance at coup'ing other nations to get an idea of what's factored in. High pop, high gdp, low unrest, high public opinion are major factors that will protect against coups, so Africa can be rough since it's generally pretty bad on all those fronts to start with. You may want to take it slower and make sure to not overextend beyond what your agents can secure at any one point in time. What's worked for me has been to start with the highest pop/gdp nation and build public support to like 70%+ and unrest below 1.5 to secure it, then move on to the next biggest target, secure it, federate, unify, then rinse repeat. Just to emphasize how big a deal public opinion and unrest are, 2.2 unrest and 60% public opinion was enough to coup a fully defended UK in one of my games at around 45% chance with a maxed operative. On a related note, if you have a faction really gunning for you, you can also setup traps for their agents: Use a high investigation agent to do surveillance on the capitol to ID hostile agents as they come then assassinate them. Final thing that's worked for me is to just pay off other factions for non-aggression pacts. Once that's up I've noticed they can still break it but generally won't do anything too bad to you other than messing with public opinion and stealing tech.

Japanese is a good example: iku - go, ikanai - not go, ikitai - want to go, ikitakunai - don't want to go, ikutaku natta - became wanting to go, ikitaku naku natta - became wanting to not go Some of them, like Finnish, can have a whole sentence encompassed in a single word.

I just got it due to your and Perun's playthrough giving me appetite to try my hand. It's funny how different gameplays can look like. I barely destroyed alien assets, only took care of them in my own county and so far only had 1 megafauna event. You don't *need* to play world police. I played Protectorate and basically stole the most Tech (starting with EU like you and branching into the US later) and siphoned it into personal projects in my Playthough. So I sit around 2030 with the 2 biggest powers and my endgame started already. :D

Heavy kerbal space program player here. Devlta V = effectively the range of your ship. more precisely, if you are in intergalactic space with effectively a flat gravity potential well delta v is how fast you would be moving if you used up all your fuel in a straight shot Thrust = how much force your engine output. Higher thrust = higher acceleration and typically is balanced by being less efficient giving less delta V Mass = self explanitory a bit, higher mass means lower acceleration and delta v (but more payload) Exhaust velocity and power efficiency together = effectively detail the components of a property called "Isp" (thats a capital i not an L) and means your ships fuel efficiency. An engine with a higher Isp on a ship with the same mass and thrust as another will have greater delta V. Propellant = the being fuel used, typically lighter propellants result in higher Isp and heavier propellant's typically mean more thrust. lighter propellants are typically less dense as well though meaning they may require more tank mass to hold them. Please let me know if this is helpful or if you would like more explained or if youd like me to point you in directions to better understand these concepts.

I'm currently finishing up a mechanical engineering degree, focusing in rocket science. I think this is the coolest game ever, and I'm considering making a video talking about engine stats. The short version of those stats you're looking at around 2:50 is this: Exhaust velocity is directly tied to your delta-v. All else being equal, doubling your exhaust velocity will double your available delta-v. Delta-v is kinda comparable to how much gas you have in your car. It limits how far you can go. You can also floor it to get to your destination faster, but you'll burn more gas getting there (this is much more extreme in rockets than in a car). Thrust determines your maximum acceleration, (aka how fast you can use delta-v). Again, all else being equal, higher thrust means you get to your destination faster, or you can make sharper maneuvers in combat. You also need your thrust to be higher than your weight to take off from a planet/other body. Unfortunately, most drives have EITHER high exhaust velocity OR high thrust, so you need to decide which is more important. For a science ship you want to use to explore the Kuiper belt, you need a lot of delta-v, so you'd want to use a drive with the highest exhaust velocity you can. If you're making a combat ship and you want it to be able to dodge missiles, or quickly move into an advantageous postion, you want it to have a high thrust, so it can actually move fast enough. Each drive also uses different resources as propellant, but that doesn't affect how the ship will function in game too much. It's mostly important to note what resource you're using so you have enough income of that resource to keep your ships fuelled.

2:55 I will try to use my limited understanding of physics and rocket science: - Required Power Plant: Probably a Downside. If it can only work with one particular reactor, that is a limit for longterm/scaling viability. However, it is the kind of limit that might come with good performance for it's tier. - Required Power. You will need a large enough reactor to cover this. Possibly for a x6 version. I expect it to scale lineary with size, but keep that in mind. - Thurst: This is want you want - Exhaust Velocity: I think that is simply a figure that leads to thrust. I have no idea if it matters on it's own. Maybe when comparing the engine with it's weight? - Propellant: I don't think it matters mechanically - yet. There does not appear to be a fuel mechanic. Or even refueling of reactors/fuel cells. So for now this should should just be trivia. - Propellant Material per Tank: This will be a mater of ship creation resources. It seems they always sum up to 10, but the exact mix varies. Being limited to the inner solar system, I would go for something - As a general rule, the Nuclear engines should be good. All nuclear engines have a similar story: 1. They are a old idea. Usually 1940-60's. 2. We did some testing and everything indicated we could have built them with 1960s technology 3. The would have blown everything we had back then out of the water (and probably still blows everything we have right now out of the water). 4. They were killed by the 1963 "Treaty Banning Nuclear Weapon Tests in the Atmosphere, in Outer Space and Under Water". They died so we did not end up with a nuclear arms race in space. But the fallout from planetary liftoff was also often a issue, potentially killing a dozen+ people every launch. Both of which are no issue with a space economy and a alien invasion. - particularly, try to get to *Project Orion Nuclear Propulsion* It involves riding on the shockwaves on nuclear blasts. All our current space drive tech requires weight savings. The Orion drive meanwhile requires you to build the ships _heavy enough_ or use only a miniscule fraction of the possible thrust, or _the G-Forces will literally murder the crew_ The core issue was that you can't make Nuclear Bombs infinitely small, so manned stuff under a few hundred tons would waste most of the power. You can make interstellar Arks out of them and reach relevant fractions of the speed of light. It is our biggest hope to get a quick asteroid deflection mission going. I bet Exodus will go that route (unless they find some better alien super drive).

From what I can tell the best bang for your buck is going to be battle cruisers set up as a general purpose fighter. Well balanced with good point defense and a single missile bay to harass as it closes in. Autocannons and lasers are pretty decent up close. Then set up missile boat destroyers with little point defense and are cheap to build to rain hell from the back.

Hello potato! im loving this series seems like an awesome game. i think the deal with drives is that you either get high acceleration but short travel range or long distance travel range but slow acceleration. your defensive warships then should be stationed near your assets and priorize higer acceleration for evasive combat, and you need shipyards near each of the celestial bodies where you have assets to house those fleets cause they wont be able to travel long distance but they will be more effective at defending regionally. long distance fleets must be for something else that i dunno about, exploration and science maybe? or maybe late game taking the figth to them? dunno... but you'll do better at defending with higher acceleration short distance ships docked near your bases

High delta V is definitely not very important for a local defense ship. Delta-V is basically all about flexibility and "range." For a ship that is only ever going to be hanging out by one planet, you don't need a super fuel efficient engine, or giant fuel tanks. In the 1800's, iron clad Monitors burned coal, but only had short range, so they were only useful as coastal defense ships. But they had the best armor on the planet, and the biggest gun practical at the time. America couldn't realistically sail Monitor across the Atlantic to visit England. HMS Warrior on the other hand was England's first iron armored warship. It was massively larger than Monitor, and it had sails. It order for the sails to be useful for propulsion, Warrior had to be much lighter. Warrior needed to carry bigger stores of food and water, etc. But England could project power around the globe with it because the sails didn't burn coal so it could sail around the world. You keep trying to build Warrior. You need coastal iron clads instead. For a ship that will only be at one planet, sacrifice delta V in the design to make it cheaper. Ion drives are like sails.

Unrest gives a bonus to coups, ironically, after a successful coup, the unrest drops as it signifies the discontent population gaining power. If you want, you could just get a control of two nations, use the small one to rival the big one, and declare war using the big one on the small one. Because the big one has a claim on the small one, when you conquer it, it gets absorbed. This gets around the fact that you have to federate first and then unify. Coups also reset your federation status so it doubly hurts. As for why you're public enemy number 1, other commenters have touched on it. But I kind of like your desperate struggle to put up so many bases that the aliens can't kill them all. Gives me a real Zapp Brennigan vibe :) Good luck, it's interesting to kind of see you taking some of the hardest that the aliens have to offer and still adapting. (You'll out tech them eventually!)

Drives in the game's context as well as some irl science stuff wall of text tutorial for potato: 3 Main drive stats: thrust, exhaust velocity, and fuel type Exhaust velocity determines how efficiently the drive converts fuel mass to momentum; you can directly derive the specific impulse from this number given the drives thrust (you may be more familiar with this number, KSP represents engine efficiency with ISP for example). Exhaust velocity is quite literal: it represents the velocity of the exhaust products leaving the drive. In a perfect world, all of these exhaust products would be travelling exactly in the opposite direction that you wish to burn - ie none of them with sideways momentum; this ideal case is somewhat practically impossible, but you get closer and closer with better nozzle designs (this is why nozzles are shaped the way they are). The exhaust products are determined by the fuel type - I'm not sure if the game models this, but the molecular mass of the exhaust products will have an impact on the efficiency: at the same exhaust velocity, a higher mass molecule/exhaust product will have more momentum. For Terra Invicta purposes I think you can basically directly equate Exhaust velocity to efficiency, higher=better The thrust is self explanatory, but it will have some effects on the operation of your drive even during cruise thrust transfers, because if the drive's cruise acceleration cannot overcome the gravity of the sun at a certain distance, then different transfer types need to be used. Think of it like this: in an ideal world, we have infinite deltaV and an acceleration of 1g, and we can just point our ship at a destination and burn constantly for half of the travel time, then turn the ship around, and burn constantly to decelerate for the other half, arriving at the target with 0 relative velocity as fast as physically possible. This is called a brachistochrone or torch transfer. The higher our acceleration, the faster the transfer becomes, because our maximum velocity we can reach at the halfway point increases. A maximally time-efficient torch transfer with high enough cruise acceleration will use 100% of the ship's deltaV, so in practice ships will stop accelerating early and start decelerating later, so there will be a cruise period in the middle where the ship just drifts along its trajectory with no acceleration. However if the gravity of the sun or other central body is higher than the cruise acceleration, or maybe you want to optimize for deltaV efficiency instead of time efficiency, you need to start using the gravitational landscape; gravity assists, oberth effect, Hohmann transfers, etc. I don't think the game models gravity assist trajectories currently, so mainly I think the game uses Hohmann-like transfers to get around with lower-thrust drives. These will be more efficient deltaV wise, but much slower. Hohmann transfers can be sped up with more deltaV, but the ideal Hohmann transfer is modelled as an instantaneous impulse transfer (ie burn once for a short period at start location, burn once for short period at destination), so torch transfers will always be faster just because they spend much MUCH more time accelerating/decelerating, which just increases the maximum velocity reached in general. So when deciding what drive to use, you should ask yourself about the role of the ship: an early colony ship really doesn't need much acceleration, it just needs a shitton of deltaV so that it can use the early torch transfers (accelerating for small durations) to get around in reasonable timeframes, so you want really high exhaust velocity. Once you start getting into the >8.0 score exhaust velocity range, ships start getting around reasonably fast with like 50 tanks, which gets the ship into the 100s of kps deltaV range, making transfers tens of weeks usually. The first early drive I used for this was Ponderomotive, which uses water as fuel with really high exhaust velocity for the early game, but not gated behind the really expensive techs (just need electromagnetic propulsion and VASMIR drive) For short-range combat ships, just slap the highest thrust drive you can on, and a shitton of fuel tanks so you have enough deltaV to intercept shit; need that combat acceleration. Combat ships in my mind should just be decently expensive fuel wise - need excess fuel to maneuver in combat and to intercept enemies, but also need high thrust so early game your efficiency will suffer, so all that = lots and lots of expensive fuel. Unless you're going for cannonfodder strats where you just spam missiles on cheap small ships to fuck over the early alien ships. During the later game, you have the leeway to optimize for both acceleration and efficiency, and the drives start becoming able to do those sweet sweet torch transfers like the aliens do from the start. If the drive has the word "torch" or "lantern" in it you're probably golden.

Delta V has nothing to do with range, but with acceleration. It's the amount of _change in velocity_ (hence the name) your ship can produce. With any amount of delta v, your range is technically unlimited, just the time it takes you to get there is affected. Example: If you have 1kps of delta v, that means you have the ability to accelerate to 500mps, then travel, then decelerate again to 0 mps. The distance you can travel between accelerating and decelerating is not affected, just the time it takes you to do so.

so for engines. Thrust is how much power it puts out so the bigger that number the faster it moves. The exhaust velocity is how efficiently it uses it fuel. So something like a grid drive moves like a snail but need very little fuel to travel a long distance. Stuff like the basic chemical rockets are the complete opposite. they will move you extremely fast but you need massive amounts of fuel to get anywhere. I find the pulsar engine is a good early game engine. Copper head missiles I find to be really good at the start especially when you swarm launch them. early game armour is kinda useless. too weak expensive and heavy to be viable apart from some token armour on the nose imo. You also want to look at the Alien heat tracker in the intel screen to see how annoyed they are at you. The amount of Mission capacity you are using the more angry the Aliens get.
