In my second video of recalling life as a digital nomad / remote worker in Hawaii, I talk about what it's like to live with other digital nomads in their mid 20s. I'm learning to accept more spontaneity and change in my life as my lifestyle shifts from staying inside for the past couple years.
Imagine 25 remote workers in their mid-20s to mid-30s on an island, living together. Many of us come from different walks of life. Bunches of personalities mingling together. Some of them are considered very early in their careers, some career-oriented, some who value the life part of work-life balance, some who enjoy nightlife more than others, some who are more extroverted, some who are more introverted. And I really enjoy the diversity of characters
I’m not exactly sure what it is, whether it’s being a digital nomad, living in a different city again, not living at home, but being here has given me permission. Permission to be a different version of myself. Not necessarily one that isn’t me, just different. A version where I’d be one step closer to the ideal life I’d want. When you’re in a new environment, you don’t have people calling you out and saying ‘hey this isn’t you. That’s weird’. And if there are friends or family members judging you for wanting to try new things, maybe they aren’t the best company to have around.
I'm learning to be more spontaneous. Usually I like to plan things in advance, but now things are planned typically the day of (which isn’t the most time-efficient), but that may not necessarily be the goal of the day. Maybe you just want to be present.
Spontaneity also means giving you an opportunity to try things you may not have done before - things you’d heard about and thought about, but never experienced yourself.
