I don't understand the hate for the Cheryl character - she's meant to be the straight "Jerry" to Larry's "George", and in that capacity her character works. Also, she demonstrates godly patience for Larry and his antics through many seasons.
He is not cold hearted. He simply isn't needy. This was attractive to Cheryl in the beginning but she found she couldn't manipulate him so she couldn't be with him.
@@zapkvr It's a little more than not being needy. He lacks empathy at the ground level in most situations. That's why he is so easily distracted by small stuff as it's all about his needs no matter what someone else has to go through next to him. That's why one of his dates tells him jokingly that he behaves quite sociopathic and she has a point. It's part of what creates the comedy in Curb that he f.e would think about his food getting cold when some has a heart attack next to him or think about his sweater while someone maybe dying. It's funny in Curb but in real life that person would be insufferable and at least very close to a sociopath
Just the fact that he thinks those three things make him the better man, the better choice is priceless. He's like a kid. You have to love him. He is adorable!
Unlikely. Better you than me. I hope that you do not mean the second part literally (other than in the typical way that everyone is.) Even though we will never meet, I would find this disturbing. I wish you health and happiness.
This is probably the best season. Larry did this storyline right after his own real-life divorce. That took a lot of balls and genius to find some humor in it. The actual breakup sounds pretty dark and weird; his wife had an affair with Al Gore.
"You have to drop the underwear in order to pee!" - the anger that Larry delivers this line with is hilarious to me. Thank you Larry David for making me laugh during COVID times.
But he did something's for her. Butt kissing an obnoxious neighbor whose a lawyer just to bury the wire underground, going through hell by going to Monterey which she's at fault for rid of Larry's Seinfeld jacket which has the plane tickets in the pocket, renewing their vows on the 10th anniversary, giving her a live manger after he ate the cookies without informing him what the cookies are for then.
Seriously? She’s easily one of the most annoying and ungrateful characters in sitcom history. She doesn’t really work - her character quit her job to “work for the environment” doesn’t count - and doesn’t do anything except complain about and micromanage/mother her husband. Seriously, what value does she bring to the relationship? Larry’s her meal ticket. She ought to be on her knees and thanking him for letting her stay.
In real life 10 years ago my wife said to me exactly the same think " I an leaving ". That was the best think ever happed to me . My bad luck suddenly turn around and everthing has been just great since then.. lol
Its kind of weird, but I wanted Cheryl and LD to not break up, in fact I thought they were kind of nice together, I thought Larry was kind of old for her though, but them breaking up made me a little sad, especially because Larry seemed really surprised by it.
My boyfriend and I are both in Europe where Tivo isn't a 'thing', but ever since this scene when we can't hear or understand what the other one is saying we say "the Tivo guy is here!" :D
not true, there are several points early on when she tries to offer up advice and motivate Larry to better himself. All Larry ever does is complain about everything around him
@@lbboardingb3356 Larry usually complains that people get mad at him for every little mistake he does, but he also complains about the things that nobody gives a shit
And the time she threw away his jacket which has the plane tickets in it for her sister's wedding. And she's not being considerate with Julie Driffus when Cheryl allowing the lawyer to blackmail Larry for making a property agreement to dig the cable underground.
Nah, it just shows how misogynist many Curb fans are. It's fine if you don't want to marry a woman like her, but to favor Larry the selfish prick over her? Makes no sense.
FRED ROGERS no it the opposite with actors! People who play nice guys or sweet girls are A-holes and the people who are jerks or bitches are the most nicest people LOL
its a stupid idea for sure, but its made even funnier that later in the episode he gets injured because of the fly zone haha. Oh jeez you wrote this comment 2 years ago, it's gonna be so weird to see a reply on it randomly.
I've never used it. I thought it was decoration? Do people actually spend time pulling their penis through that thing? Why? So much easier to just whip it out and over.
@@dallyh.2960 it's funny, one of those things i always thought i was weird and different for not using the opening or fly, but actually seems there are plenty of us!
Larry wrote his wife out of the script. Ended his character's marriage. But kept Hines employed on the show by later giving her to Ted Danson. Lol. He ended up spending more air time with Jeff, Richard, and the very foul mouthed Leon. I guess he felt too much time with the straight laced Cheryl made the show a bit boring.
Their relationship reminds me a bit of Ray and Debra Barone, only Cheryl's nicer and less uptight. She's forever waiting for him to show his deeper, more serious and sensitive side, but there just isn't that much to reveal!
They weren't right for eachother anyway. Cheryl never really loved him. She was flirty with Ted Danson and had that "friend" Brad in the third season. Gorgeous lady, but not 'the one' for Larry. Sad, but that's how real life often is.
Absolutely right. I wasted most of my life waiting for my husband to grow up. He never did. He's gone now, don't miss him. Will NEVER get married again ever.
Remember when Larry "died"? Cheryl didn't show much emotion, then immediately started talking about money afterwards. So clearly she was just after his money and I guess in the next season she'll be trying to take half.
I used to be like you, but once you go fly, you um, hmm, once you go fly... you... idk, insert clever pun on why using the fly is sometimes easier than you think
I could really see a couple having a fight like this. They are both talking over each other not really hearing what the other one wants. Both upset over some small misunderstanding; that really is about being unhappy in the relationship. Bravo! Great scene.
Mr Jones Yeah? Money is the most important thing? Yeah? Not one woman on this planet would put looks or personality first. They ALL focus on money first. Okay, sure.
Hey guys , I know your stuck in a loop mind loop of your Ego,intellect. Hopefully this will help.... it is a TV SHOW! She was cadted and they read a script. She isn't really married and if she had a good prenup it would be written In the script
brwhizz 30 No women don't focus on money first, but it is a consideration! I don't fault them for it either, I told my sisters, Make sure he comes from a good family (mom and dad are still married, and he has a good relationship with them). Make sure he is healthy, I recommend only dating guys who either played a sport in college or served in a highly physically stressful military occupation (our father was a Marine Pilot, brother and I did track and field in college and both are combat vets). Make sure he is mentally healthy, and all his friends can vouch for his sound judgement. Make sure his friends are guy's you respect, and can get on with (same with family, don't be with him if you don't like his mom). Make sure you have the same religious ideals, concepts of what is right and wrong so that when you disagree you will fight fairly with each other. If he has all that going for him already, he will likely be financially successful, but if he isn't he better be AMAZING in all the other metrics. Like Billy Graham level self sacrificing amazing.
I absolutely agree with that. In fact, how does he have any friends, or associates, let alone a wife of many years? I mean I love him on the show and find myself agreeing with him most of the time, but he would drive me nuts. I don't think I can handle all the embarrassment and awkwardness of just being with him lol. Then again, most people in real life aren't like all the sensitive jerks on the show either, they would just quietly distance themselves from Larry instead of arguing with him
Wow Cheryl had it so rough. Her husband was worth over 300 million, she lived in a mansion and never worked a day in her life. But Goddammit Larry just wasn't treating her right.
I have to say throughout the entirety of the show Larry still seems to only love Cheryl. It's not like he was over and done with her immediatly rather I'd argue the opposite happened. Sorta realized the dude knows he's "complex" but yet he still loves that one girl. Really sweet. Also, am I gay?
Curb Your Enthusiasm (CYE) based on Cheryl or based on Larry and tell me which version of CYE would be canceled after two episodes (lol). I'm with team Larry.
@Luis Collado Ok I think your entire comment trumps mine in the rude department buddy..and that's assuming your telling the truth which I doubt, now....*Curb theme🎶
@@morganh3039 Women. Men initiate 99% of marriages. Women initiate 75% of divorces. Two teams playing basketball, except one team built the court, the stands. Bought both teams uniforms. Organized the practices, games. Invited the other team to play, use their own locker room. Bought the ball. And one team quits in middle of game because they're not making enough points, even though they cheated. Takes ball ( not theirs ) and goes home.
Cheryl was a gold digger. When people asked why she was with Larry, she was too tactful to say the REAL real reason - that he could keel over any day now.
Respect to the show for sticking more or less the most significant moment, plot-wise, of the entire series, within the first 10 minutes of an episode 7
Blessing in disguise with Cheryl always being too condescending for Larry, even though all she has going for her is that she looks more presentable than him.
I liked her. She was the straight man to Larry. But then she became kinda cold and pointless in the end. But that happen with divorces. And LD loosely based it on his wife cheating and leaving him in real life.
@@zyrrhos She’s a gold digger. She married Larry for his money and now she’s with Ted for his money. She needs to stop being lazy and look for a real job.
2:27: Larry is complaining about the underwear company while his wife is telling him they are separating. OMG. I'm dying 😂😂 I freaking love this show and Larry David's comedy brilliance. LOL.
Guys, if a woman ever tells you they're leaving, NEVER argue with them. Let them go, reset your brain and move on with your life. When a woman decides they want to leave, she will leave NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO OR SAY! masteringmarriageformen.com
she's right that there's no other side to larry, but what she doesn't want to admit to herself is she fabricated that other side in order to rationalize being with him for his money.
@@againstthepods4316 In what regard? Larry David is one of the most successful comedy writers in history and is worth millions of dollars. Cheryl is what? Slightly more attractive than him? Woop dee doo. That's a depreciating asset.
Chery Is the absolute worst. She is always a drama queen and just absolutely annoying. I know it's just a show but I have a sneaking suspicion she's like this in real life
I knew i couldn't stand her the time she was insisting on going out for a drink first, and then driving to go get dinner. I was 100% with Larry on that one.
My ex left me for her therapist. About 2 years later, he dumped her. Sure hope he found her another therapist or kicked in some dough? True story. Her next guy dumped her too. She gave up on men and is single for life. One bright thing in her life soon? Cheryl will be in the White House ! Then in the next 8 years, our country will be healthier, happier, and more peaceful. And she and the rest of us wont have U know who to look at anymore. Think mirror largo.
Why does everyone hate Cheryl so much? I think she's a hot older woman, and let's face it, Larry's not exactly George Clooney himself. If I was an obsessive old bald dude, I could do a helluva lot worse than her.
Lewis 970 ya but he's loaded & she's not attractive at all. the lower part of her face is very masculine, she reminds me of a transgender woman I work with
Because a segment of the Curb audience embody the worst man-child aspects of Larry David and whenever the show appropriately decides to chastise him or hold him accountable for stepping out of line they take is as a personal attack against them.
