So you are the boy who tries to offer the dragon fruit, but he misunderstands the picture with instructions, and doesn't offer it with two people. The dragon rejects your offering. You study for years (to find out what you did wrong, perhaps), you are depressed, and finally as an old man you complete the offering, and this time it seems to be accepted. The dragon can be many things, it can be inner peace or perhaps wisdom (he tries to find it as a kid, but fails, and later as an old man, after he studied for many years, he can find it), it can be destruction/war (he tries to appease a dangerous dragon, fails, it destroys the city, and he later manages to calm it down with the complete offering), or prosperity (your failed offering chases away prosperity and the dragon only returns when you complete the offering as an old man), it can be death/understanding of death/acceptance of death (as a kid he doesn't get it, but as an old man after many years of study he understands/accepts), it can be inspiration/creativity (as a kid he tries to do something, but his inspiration leaves him, and he gets depressed, then as an old man he finds it again), it can be childhood wonder/innocence (as a child he has it, but loses it as he experiences life, goes through injury and war, but as an old man he feels that wonder again) etc etc. In this case there isn't a lot of story told with words, so you have to go by the images only. That leaves a lot open to interpretation. A butterfly for example, is often used as a symbol for completed transformation (from caterpillar to butterfly), sometimes it's used as a symbol for fleeting life, or for delicate life, etc. Here the butterfly is like a guide, showing you the next step during the yellow chapter. Dragons can mean many different things, depending on where you're from, in Asia dragons commonly mean prosperity, or strength, or power. In most countries in Europe dragons often are death, or destruction, or symbolic of a problem you have to overcome, typically they're killed in stories (though sometimes they're also wisdom). In Goragoa the dragon can represent something different altogether, you're not tied to the common interpretation of things, but if you do deviate from the common meaning you will have to make that clear to your audience. Symbols can be hard to interpret, especially in something without words, because when you have text/more overt story to go on authors often give you the symbol and it's meaning by seeing something reoccur in similar situations, but that doesn't mean every symbol means the same thing; the colour red means there is a ghost in the sixth sense, and ghosts are basically their trauma manifested, the way a person died is how their ghosts look, but in Beloved, red is more connected to life, and in Beloved, the ghost stands for grief and feelings of guilt and the past, not the ghost's trauma, but the people around her. So similar themes, and symbols, completely different interpretation. So the dragon can be many things, I'm sure there is a literature paper/thesis out there that focused on symbolism in Goragoa.

I like to think the dragon represents time: as a child, you have all the time in the world, but as you get older, that precious time runs out. And also, that dragon shows up everytime one of the frames do a time skip (like when the frame goes from day to dusk.)

Im guessing the dragon is death and each stage is a key moment (maybe a point where he almost faced death for some reason) and collecting the colours is helping to process these events so he'd ultimately not fear death in the end. Not sure if it fully lines up with the more nuanced panels but thats my initial thoughts

Interesting. I saw it as a kid in war time seeking out peace as a solution to everything, and then the 'fall from grace' as he realises the harsh reality (maybe his injury). Then is cuts to him much later in life, trying once more to seek peace again. Then in his old age he looks back on his life, and pieces together his idea of peace, coming to terms with things in a way I guess, and then maybe passing on as he does this?

Yeah, you can see it as many things, acceptance/knowledge of death seems to fit, as well as depression/inner peace, as in, as a child he is not depressed, he sees the dragon (contentment, inner peace?) he tries to get closer to the dragon but fails, is injured, depressed, in a war, he studies and studies to find that inner peace again, then finally as an old man he succeeds, and sees the dragon once again and finds serenity. The bell/ladle/candle bit can be both real or symbolic; he really tries various methods of penance/meditation/pilgrimage or they stand for his attempts to reach inner peace without him actually going out to a desert, forest, and mountain. Or perhaps the dragon is war and destruction and the boy tries to appease it with an offering, but he didn't realise the offering was supposed to be made by two people, a boy and an old man in the picture, and he fails, the dragon destroys the city, but as an old man he completes the offering and all is well. Or the other way around, the dragon ensured peace and prosperity, but he chased it away with a failed offering. Or the dragon can be inspiration, or knowledge, or wisdom and his whole journey of offering, failing, depression, studying, completing the offering, is a quest of him getting that knowledge/wisdom from the dragon.
