Looks good. I'd recommend having the text/dialogue left aligned rather than centre aligned, so that the player can read it as it's "typed"

For high-poly stuff, you can always retopologize to turn your models low-poly. Either way, looks great so far!

Hi! As a coder, who's also working on a game in the style of A Short Hike (see our shorts), I have to say great work on this! Very impressive. My advice is to try to keep it small and focused. It's easy to get overwhelmed by wanting to add too much, especially if you get to edge cases that your adventure creator can't support. You don't need to learn to code to make a marketable game. And you can still make a fun game people want to buy, so keep up the good work! Oh and if you plan on releasing it, you probably want to make a steam page ASAP, especially since this is getting attention. It's good to start growing wishlists early and I totally would wishlist right now. (Easy for me to say since our game doesn't have one yet, lol)

if you think coding is the hard part you haven't a clue what lies in the art category, specifically 2D Art, it is the hardest part because coding is fairly simple skill to pick up if your dedicated enough, art might actually just be random luck

I think Thomouse showcases a misconception about game development (or even code dev in general) - people believe that python or node-based scripting will make development easier. But, node-based scripting is not a replacement for "real" code, IT IS real code (ultimately script is wrapper around source code) and without a thorough understanding of the material you will be left struggling. Its is surprisingly hard to construct novel game mechanics. In particular I'm talking about Unreal. I do not blame you for tossing out that option, Unreal development is not for the faint of heart despite how Epic tries to sell itself.

GDevelop is a perfect game engine for a non programmer, and it's easier than a visual node, they use the natural language. With it anyone can do a game in less than one hour. The engine also allow Javascript if you want to code.

This is very interesting! I've always wanted to make a game but I never started learning because coding was scary. Just a few days ago, I decided to suck it up and learn how to use Godot Engine, a free engine that uses GDScript which is very similar to Python. I learnt a bit of Python in university a long time ago so I already have some of the fundamentals of programming, but the rest of game development still seems very daunting to me. One day, I want to make a story-based 2D RPG with some music-rhythm elements. I do not know how to write stories, code games, or compose music. I will keep challenging myself to learn these skills and make a good game. Good luck to you! I've subscribed.

The fact is that developers could make and design an engine to do almost anything with movement and objects to other but will not be because they really want to keep control of the gaming industry all over greed. Many people that art artist and very well known for their creative ability in story writing could make awesome games and the fact is that they know this and will never happen.

Video was great, my only thought is, with how much time and effort you seem to put into finding ways of making games without coding (which I can see why you want to do that), you would have picked up basic programming if you just spent the time to learn it, I know its not easy, but trust me, it will be worth it. I think if you avoid learning to program, you will always be limited by what you can find already created on the web. Regardless, I like the idea of trying to make game with no code, but just wanted to have my say!
@thomouse

And you propably right :D. I don't think i can make everything that i want in game without single line of code, but i want to try. But still this is a story based game so not much gameplay mechanic to make so i give a try.

going through programming classes and getting a C despite how awesome it is to understand... I can see how this would be more optimal. I'm simply annoyed at going through code so much but it's necessary for programming the softwares that'd program a game for you so someone that codes creates the code for the software that helps you "code" a game. Still important regardless but really does help people who just wanna make a fun little project.

Can I recommend you consider starting with "Build a 2D Platformer Game in Unity" from Coding in flow? I genuinely have no real experience with coding, and I wasn't even willing to touch it, but I tried setting up a lil platformer with his tutorial and I was actually able to get some progress, even if you never finish the game in his video it made coding a little less scary, and even with the best programs to avoid coding, it'll still come up even in things like RPG maker. Your game looks really good by the way, I hope you succeed.

I mean, the hard part of coding isn't actually writing code it is the ability to solve problems and I don't think visual scripting helps with that? I mean it is probably easier to get into but on the long run it might be more difficult due to the fact that you can't reuse other peoples code. Other than that great video!
