I love moving vlogs and I would be incredibly interested to hear more about your finances if you’re willing to share. I totally get that you have businesses that bring in extra money, so you’re not the “typical” grad student. But even across my university there are huge differences in stipends etc. I just love hearing about it generally!

I’m very happy for you and this new journey! I find it mind blowing how you can apply for that visa as a U.S. citizen. Im a DACA recipient, first year PhD student in history. If I were to do research outside the country I have to file for an “advance parole”. Basically treated like a criminal. I had to tailor my research and call myself a U.S. historian so I wouldn’t have to do research outside the country. As annoying as that is. I have to be grateful for what I have.
That is so frustrating and I am so sorry you have to deal with such limitations. The restrictions on international students in the US is something which I have always found immensely confusing. You'd think the US would welcome international scholars to engage in the US economy and contribute their work to the field in less limiting ways but I digress. I am glad you have found a way to make your research work! What is your project on (generally speaking since I know its still early days)?
@@KaelynGraceApple Is a DACA student the same as an international student? I am not an immigration expert, but I thought DACA recipients are undocumented people who entered the U.S before the age of 14 and have remained un the country , so definitely not the same as a visa-holding foreign student.
@@buensulg DACA students have different restrictions than a US citizen who needs to perform research abroad. I don't know the specific details of US immigration and visa policies, however.
@@KaelynGraceApple I am so sorry for the late response. No I am not an international student. I was born in Argentina and immigrated when I was 6 years old. I was raised in Sarasota, Florida. I did K-12. I received my A.A., B.A., and M.A. I never received federal aid because I am not a U.S. citizen and cannot apply to be one. I applied for DACA in 2012 and still have it. It does not give me a path to citizenship. I paid all my degrees with scholarships so I do not have debt. My current research is on 20th and 21st century US immigration history, in connection with The DREAM Act and DACA.

Hi hi! I have a question about how you will continue to do your business while living internationally. What would those logistics be like for tax purposes or registration status if you have an international address? I wonder how does it work even if you move states? Even though your business is online and you're now in CT, do you still have to maintain your registration in CA or do your business taxes there?
I will likely register my businesses back in California but I believe there is also an option for being in absentia. As for registering in the UK it would be under a new business entity. Accepted Consulting and Accepted Society will remain US based companies but I may start a separate business which branches off of Accepted in the UK if that makes sense. The logistics are all still very confusing 😅

I have always craved independence so I am excited to have this time to explore London both with and without my partner. My program at Yale is 6 years though some students go longer. I would personally like to complete asap

Hi Kaelyn, this is all so very exciting! Ironically I'm studying higher ed but feel like I'm learning just as much about it from the PhD perspective as my courses! Quick Q: I believe you mentioned potentially going back to the states to finish up your research but residing in potentially D.C. and getting fellowships through Philly or William and Mary but also might have to teach. (I think I heard that right). If you receive a fellowship from say, William and Mary, would you then transfer your program there since you would potentially be teaching there? Lot's of little details but curious about the process. Thank you SO much and good luck!
Hey! It would be for a fellowship so I would still be a PhD candidate at Yale but would have some obligations to whichever program I was accepted to for a dissertation writing grant :)
Could you provide some info on how you’ll transport your dog to the UK? I’m planning to move to London and have a cat, and I’m not sure how the process works.
I think the restrictions for dogs and cats are slightly different. With dogs they can't fly 'in cabin' from the US to the UK so I am flying into Ireland (in the EU), getting her health certified and then taking a ferry to the UK :)
I am so excited for you! Enjoy your move. I look forward to seeing the city through your exploration! It is on my bucket list to visit the UK in the next few years. I have found your videos on PhD very eye-opening and it saved me the cost of beginning a program and not finishing it. I don't have the brain power for that anymore (ha, ha!!!). But they made me realize that my interest in history is so broad, that I'm not sure I could narrow a focus down enough to pursue a PhD - so you helped me realize I shouldn't go down that path. Thank you! I am starting my MA program this fall in publishing and am ecstatic about that! (I've worked in publishing for over 15 years, so I'm pretty sure it will hold my interest.) Good luck! (Just as an FYI - I'd recommend climate controlled storage if you can afford it - my grandmother used regular storage for a few years back in the 90s and it took a toll on her furniture - some of it became unusable. I'd be concerned about moisture with the books, too. Just a thought!)

In fact many years later I'm looking at moving back to London as my daughter and son-in-law live there. I've travelled a lot in my career and London is my favourite city in the entire world.
