ive been following you guys since you first started by ur self, i have to say without your content jordan i would of quit my electrical apprenticeship by now, you really inspire me and im very thankfull for it ! all the best for the new year guys :D
You seem like a really sound boss, one of them people where you can ask a question and you will give the answer without being made to feel silly . My problem now is i,m getting addicted to watching your channel !
The metallic mirror pendant lamp is a Tom Dixon Melt lamp if you google it. Not too much change from £500. "advanced vacuum metallisation" technique. Whatever that means.
It's a fancy form of powder coating something non metallic to make it look metallic. I believe it's quite an expensive process. But again, making cheap materials looks expensive
Look up sputtering. It was a technique I used many years ago to apply the metallisation layer on to an integrated circuit die. An evacuated chamber is used and a piece of metal inside is vaporised by passing an electric current through it. The atoms of the metal are then deposited over the device in the chamber.
Great work ethic Jordan but if you do that every week you'll end up in A&E. The other option is you'll be home alone because your family have up and left because they never see you. Time management and Work/ Life balance is key to being helathy & happy. Give yourself a break and let some managers take the strain. Hope you and your team have a lovely Christmas.
This channel is amazing, can't believe I only just stumbled across it. It seems like "I'm back in a small cupboard" is just the consistent existence of an electrician
At 31:22 have you given up on the battery backup system? It wasn’t really designed for our wiring systems, keep safe and wishing you all a happy new year!
Brilliant video as always. Only bug bear I’ve got as a meter engineer is electricians ploughing kit into the meter boxes. The amount of times I’ve had to turn customers down because there’s no room in the meter box to put a smart meter in.I get why it’s done, it’s quick and easy for the electrician but causes customers headaches when they can’t get renewable/solar tarriffs. I think a separate IP rated box should be fitted as standard near the meter box. A bit of a faf for you guys but it saves you getting called out at a later date. Thanks for the videos, keep them coming!!Happy new year to you all.
Hey Jordan. A small tip for your connectivity issues. I work in IT and have come across many issues in relation to WiFi connectivity to IoT devices; Sonos, Sky, Temperature and Humidity sensors, Home Automation and so forth. What I've found is that many of these WiFi dongles / WiFi connectivity points don't operate on 5GHz due to line of sight and lack of compatible hardware. When you combine 2.4GHz and 5GHz into one SSID, these devices won't see the 2.4GHz LAN. Rather than disabling the 5GHz network, you should setup a separate 2.4GHz WiFi network as disabling 5GHz WiFi will by nature decrease throughput for all 5GHz compatible devices. 5GHz requires line of sight, i.e. it isn't very good at penetrating solid objects while 2.4GHz is. Some will argue 5GHz won't penetrate solid objects and while this is somewhat true, it's not an exact science. Feel free to fire me a message if you require more info. as this is my bread and butter and I've been brought in on many weird and wonderful projects to resolve issues as such. Long time viewer and subscriber and I love the attention to detail and stellar work Artisan Electrics do 👍 All the best 👌
Very nice video great to see your week busy and hectic well done guys enjoy the rest of the Christmas season and all the best for 2023 my you have health happiness and prosperity love from Ireland 😎👏🇮🇪
Brilliant content mate, like most others I’ve watched you from the start. Its good to see a real uncut honest working week, It’s not all champagne and caviar as your business grows and it shows the commitment and hard work you put into your business.
Great Video,. Grteetings from Ireland. Just showsyou can make plans buty they are only a guide. You got to do what you got to do. Looking forward to the new Solar Job and new office space. On your video about the Hot Water heater comming from the upstairs supply nut getting a permanent downstairs supply. That was a great find. I am not an electrician but an electronics tech. but have covered up to 700VAC also in training, but had to change the main ELCB at home last week only to find a 16mm Blue wire feeding the lights Live tapped down to the ECCB Live input. Didn't expext that. Didint have 16mm Brown wire, so as it was at home I put brown tape over the wire, but you never know what you might find. Keep up the good work
you should start installing unifi and then you can manage wifi remotely, as well as adding 2.4g wifi on separate SSID - we do this as older sky systems are the same
Like most guys on hear I have been following you from pretty much the start. I love the professional content you put out but it’s nice and refreshing to see content like this video. It feels like you being an honest business owner and less staged (I mean that in a good way might I add). Ever way thanks for the content from you and the team
Yes I have same issues with solax regarding data. Have just done my first Victron ESS, cerbo GX, mppt rs 450/200, 8000 quattro way more complex than basic solax pv but it worked after little issue and has kept working. Also insufficient info in manuals on solax amazing info from victron and victron community. Victron not suitable for everything would use it with Fronius but last September I was quoted may for inverter.
Busy busy busy Jordan! Exciting stuff ahead with new unit! I hope your employee search is going well. As an aside, is interesting to here you call McDonalds "Maccas". We've been calling it that in Aus forever, and there are even a few with Maccas on the signage. Wishing you and all a great New Year. Cheers
Devices not pairing cos there's a 5Ghz radio on the same SSID - been there done that. Answer is either temporarily turn off the 5Ghz radio (if possible) while pairing, or put it on a different SSID. Dealing with SOLIS support (with one American support guy who's on the spectrum) - been there done that. To be fair, they responded pretty quickly to me and even sent me out a firmware update stick with a USB drive for free, even if the support guy was a bit unfriendly. I won't buy another Solis hybrid inverter though, they behave quite strangely and Solis just say 'works as designed' to which my reply is 'clearly its a design fault then'. Then they shrug and go quiet.
The problem with dual band Wi-Fi is that 5Ghz is stronger but 2.4Ghz reaches further. Most hubs can be manually switched while connecting individual components to required frequencies. The mirror lamp is the same principle as mirror sunglasses (popular in the 80s).
In that CU you could see a crack in the casing of the main switch bottom right and top left and some black residue from idk what…. >> 2:21 would go back to check on that tbf
Have you tried using a 3rd party Omni/directional WiFi antenna for the adapter? Also some of the "cheap" wifi dongles only really work on 2.4Ghz not 5Ghz. But turning off 5Ghz for the customer is NOT A FIX. Best to install a small UniFi Wifi AP and have it running on both 2.4 and 5.
Best to just get a networking installer to pop out and do the networking bits for them. They charge enough, and they'll likely be improving the customers WiFi at the same time!
@@masonchapman148 yes, i do network installs, my colleague does cameras, we also have 2 electricians, we work in that way so theres a person for everything and not one has to know everything
Turning off the 5ghz isn't great for the customer as they'll loose fast wifi - put in a better router than the home hub, or put in better wifi, either or, and then the customer can still have both. 2.4ghz is good for range and penetration and having IOT stuff on but 5ghz really is better for humans and their devices - especially if you have properly provisioned wifi with decent signal. In the same respect as you found that kitchen fixer work and said "classic kitchen fitter job" - turning off the 5ghz wifi is a little bit "classic sparky job" :P I'm being very tongue in cheek, I love your videos. I have an IT business and our parent business is a sparky's so we work closely with them on a lot of stuff. In this instance we would probably try and sell the customer a unifi system and go and install that in their house to improve the wifi - looks like a big house so they would benefit from it over just a home hub or the home hub + Bt disks (as they are rubbish).
Nice insight video, really enjoyed it, as a one off! You don’t want to end up like some and simply cut this one up into four others videos eight shorts!!! 😂
Could you not donate all the old tools to some apprentices that are just starting out. ? I’m not a spark but I think that would be a big help to some just starting out .
The reason it prob could not connect to the 2.4G while 5G was enabled is that the channel width was probably 40/80Mhz, ive seen some devices unable to connect if set to 40/80Mhz, this is how the faster speeds is achieved on WiFi but some chipsets are not compatible. It will either show up but not connect or not even see the network.
Pretty standard problem with most "smart" things these days is they're using the cheaper 2.4ghz band chips. You can, on some routers split out the 2.4 and 5 onto different SSID's (network names) to be able to see both at the same time.
Prefer this sort of video. Why do you schedule 3 sparks for simple(ish) jobs (including the director of the company). It seems odd to me, would you not be better scheduling people individually (or +apprentice).
With the WiFi issue that you had I have a question. When you turned off the 5GHz band so that you could connect, were you able to turn that back on for the customer? That would annoy me like no tomorrow if certain devices in my home couldn't use 5GHz.
I love your videos mate but don't always but all kitchen fitters in the same category. I was a kitchen fitters with my uncle and we never did stuff like this. He was an electrician and always did things properly as did I.
With regards to fitting switch fuse in dno cabinet I was under the impression that you are not allowed. Efixx did a vid on it and every dno said you shouldn't do it
The wifi dongle is a bit too close to tall the equipment. It maybe suffering from low signal due to so much electromagnetic radiation from all the high voltage cables. Also make sure you are pairing with 2.4GHz and 5GHz is switched off while pairing. This paring issue happens all the time.
Hello gents, what are those boxes you just installed on the dodgy joint in the kitchen at the start of the video, with the wago connectors. Thank guys.
Hi I am nearly to finish level 3 electric installation, and i need to buy tools. i was hoping if i can get your old tools that you are not using no more and i live in london
Ref the van... our vans are fitted out with edged shelves these days with retaining straps to keep all that lot from flying around - worth the investment in time and money if you can - saves minutes every day each stop....
Hi Jordan, nice video again! Regarding the connectivity issues and Wi-Fi Problems at the inverter/ Zappi: You often mentioned, that too much distance between either the Zappi and its hub/gateway or the other, Wi-Fi depending EV Chargers/Inverters and the customers router, the firmware updates often fail or take very long. Hence I thought, maybe it would be worth it, offering to the customers a hard-wired Ethernet to all their new equipment, or additional access points, close-by to their devices. Maybe you can work you or someone from your team into mesh/multi-access-point setups and offer networking solutions as well 😉
You'd need to be charging the EV vans fully of solar panels there's the cost of buying the EV vans cost of charging points cost of the solar panels and battery storage systems it all adds up
For that switch-fuse dilemma, i would put a henley block on the tails then pop the cable through the back along with a new set of tails. Then put the switch fuse on the inside of the building wall right behind the cabinet.
There's not one single good EV van on the market at the moment especially the mercedes one that have a range of 60 miles round trip and others don't have any payload capacity and the prices for EV vans are double of petrol and diesel vans
Think I saw a review on the new Ford Transit ev the other day. It's got a bit better range, definitely into three figures, can't remember the exact details but might be worth a look.
I have a lot of smart home tech and turned off the 5ghz part of my BT wifi network because EVERYTHING wants 2.4ghz and don't miss the higher speeds (but shorter range) from 5ghz.
stop using wifi for these installs. it's a pain in the arse. Use wired direct to the router if you can. all it takes is a microwave to screw the signal. wired is the way to go.
URGH. I'm appalled already, and i've only gotten to you repouring your coffee into a cold thermocup. You lose 5C by repouring, you lose 5C by pouring it into a cold thermos.. Even before sipping the first time, you've got bad coffee...
(1:10) ...Let us know if you want to see more stuff like this... (41:58) I'm definitely NEVER gonna do another one! ❤❤❤ Totally understand. You guys are legends, Cheers🍻
