I have managed hotels for years, and by law, the only thing that can be told from a former employer is dates worked there and if you can be rehired. So feel free to lie your butt off if you want to. ✌🏾

HR can only say, "yes we will Rehire and that u left in good standings." Or "No! They're not eligible for Rehire." 👎 Any other info is ILLEGAL and u may seek action against this company or an employer if other details are shared. But, yes Ive told the interviewer, I separated from my last employer because they did not Uphold the goals of their Mission Statement nor skills level, training and experience as described in my Resume/CV and Cover Letter.

Listen these plantation owners I work for fired a friend. A coworker got fired ( I forget why). She listed another coworker, a friend on the application as her former boss for a new job. They called and spoke to the friend. I don’t recall what happened on the call but for some reason the new would be employer called back and said they had spoken to xyz and was told they were not a manager. I guess our darn HR took upon themselves to verify the phone number given and then fired the friend for posing as a supervisor!

Me getting fired from a previous job ain’t none of their business so why would I volunteer that information?? I’m with you! As for me and my household, I ain’t finna tell you that.

Ive been the one doing the interviewing! Be careful "offering too much" on the application. Writing books 📚.When the application is reading suspect, and I know the person needs a fresh start.. I want them as an employee, I say "you can come clean with me.!"If they do, we can move forward. They go from looking like 😮 to😊. Its always turned out good ❤

Never been fired but I did have a TEMP (meaning a job using a staffing service) job at a dental office have the nerve to tell me they couldn't get in contact with Human Resources. 😮. I never give former managers / supervisors but I will give HR so you can check dates. Then, the former tried to say I didn't work there after nearly 8 years. So, some places check but this was a small dental practice that asked me an illegal question in the interview ie. if I had children. Suffice it to say didn't get the job and I tell everyone I know do not go there for dental care. 😁.

When the writing's on the wall, I quit first.

If the interviewer ask why did you leave your job, most people I know say the company downsize them. Or the office operations were outsourced. I work in corporate and this happens a lot. Especially when one company merges or is acquired by a larger company, then they start phasing out employees.

I ain't never put a job that I was laid off from, on my resume. I keep 2 jobs and that second job is always used as a backup🤣

No matter how I left my answer is pretty much the same: I left to seek growth opportunities. If I need to further explain it, I do state I am always seeking to use certain skills in a conducive environment because honestly I have changed careers about four times now. But never ever would I ever tell anyone if I were terminated. I’ve been through a couple of those as well as layoffs. I don’t tell them any of that.

FWIW I've had jobs through temp agencies and say so on my resume. Any hiring manager with a brain understands that means I had a temporary job, I fulfilled the contract w/the agency and I'm looking for another job. I've also had seasonal jobs and say so on my resume, it's the truth and again if the hiring manager has a brain they know what seasonal means. It cuts through the clutter and comes down to do you need help or not? If I don't fit what you're looking for say so, don't waste my time and let me move on to the next thing. It depends on the job. If i was hiring for a supervisor or manager etc then I'm calling references and I'm calling the number online. If I'm hiring an hourly employee in a role most places we didn't call references unless something seemed really off (like a job title at a company we've never seen and we've Hired a lot of people from that company. Like someone said they were the lead whatever and as far as we know everyone we've hired said they left because there were no lead positions). If it was a place that made me call references unless the reference seemed WAY off, like I could tell it was a friend sitting at home telling their other friends to quiet down because they are pretending to be a reference (pre pandemic so not normal work from home) then I'm not going to go out of my way to call the main line of the company to make sure it's a real reference. Not really because "i didn't care" overall but I'm too busy to chase down every little lie. If someone says they can do x,y,z and they can't then they will be gone soon and it will suck but that's life. It's not like we're hiring a doctor. Now if someone came in trying to really make having 10 jobs in one year that were not temp jobs seem normal and not have any excuse for any of them and they somehow got the manager to want to hire them I'm looking up the number to every one of those places and not calling the number on the sheet because they probably have some problems in the past. Or people like to do the "put places that have closed to fill gaps". If you have like 6 closed places on your resume in 5 years I'm going to think you are lying or cursed

There are some jobs that will never appear on my resume and I always call all of my "references" aka friends and tell them to stick to the script.
