My daughter had similar problems each month, as well as days when she was in so much pain. Thankfully, her pediatricians (two women in the same practice) recommended their ob/gyn doctor, which was a woman. My ob/gyn was a man. My daughter was only 14. Years later her gyn doctor diagnosed her with endometriosis. The gyn her pediatricians recommended treatment with birth control pills. It reduced her cycle days along with drastic reduction of the pain she’d experienced that had landed us in the ER. She was like a whole other child. Today she is still on birth control that stops her cycle, still reduces the pain, & treats her endo. Gloria shouldn’t feel shamed of this happened. Senator Tabitha (I think that’s her name) ought to be ashamed of herself. She should have requested a recess to speak with Gloria rather than shaming her… especially in this public manner. Maybe karmic Justice will teach her not to do something like this to show her that it’s not right.

Would you go around wearing white pants showing real or fake blood as if you are on your period or trying to make a point? @lisaeveleigh1334 forget what men think. Having an issue of blood running down your legs, messing up your clothing, messing up someone's seating etc is not nice. If you know or had the experience once I would pad up all the time whether or not I knew when it would come upon me. Better to be safe then embarrassed or sorry. As women we need to stop looking for sympathy for things that naturally occur with our bodies.

No pain, no warning. Fortunately I found out while at home. BUT... I went through menopause and stopped having periods in 1997!! Imagine my shock!! Even my doctor was shocked bc she knows I've been her patient for over 30 years and was prescribed hormone replacement meds to counteract menopausal symptoms. After testing, we believe we found out why I had bleeding after 25 years. My example is proof that other medical conditions can cause vaginally bleeding. Don't be so quick to jump to conclusions. I also developed blood clots in my lungs right after having the unexpected period. If WE could control everything that happens to our bodies, no one would have cancer. I'm having a very hard time understanding the Senator who was so outraged. And I don't understand why Senator Gloria is being accused of "theatrics" to make a point about the fact that some girls have tragically died bc of the embarrassment of having their period. How can this country be so back woods & backwards? As I live & breathe... this is disturbing to me since this is the 21st Century. Even if they don't hv everything we have in America, I would hope they would have SOME modern products for women to use during their menstrual cycle. How arrogant, assuming and insensitive these people are. The Chairman did speak with a little kindness, but not with full understanding and wisdom.

What are you talking about? The fact that you are a woman does not mean you would walk about with a stained white suit in a workplace. Common sense tell you to cover it up. It happens to everyone but its a different thing to not be aware you have been stained by your period and to be fully aware and bounce about proudly just bcos you are a woman.

My gut says she would not have gone in there that way had it been an actual accident, and she would have instead used a jacket, blanket, or whatever needed to be done. What I’m talking about is the point being made. According to the video, young girls in Kenya are dying by suicide and dropping out of school because they don’t have access to sanitary products and are ridiculed, shamed, and bullied. This isn’t something I’ve heard of being an issue in the US, especially not to this degree. Was it a stretch? Maybe, but the young girls and women who will benefit from this moment and changes to come outweighs focusing on how she chose to get her point across. When young girls show up to school, apparently, they don’t have a choice in the matter because if they did they wouldn’t be dropping out or taking choosing to end lives because of it. What do we say to the young girls that are experiencing this day in and day out? I can’t even imagine what that’s like for them. For me personally, that’s the point and where I choose to keep my focus. When it comes to certain things, it takes courage. Women are too often overlooked and unheard. So again, I say kudos to Senator Gloria for taking a stand. It’s much bigger than her.

I have sympathy for what you went through so many decades ago when you started your period. I went through the same thing myself at high school blood on my dress I was sent to the principal office. But what happened to you was not that you Intentionally walked around or paraded yourself in public knowing full well that your clothes are stained with blood. So what you went through is totally different than what this discussion is really about. Eventually I have no doubt that you were able to get something to stop the bleeding or use sanitary pads even if it was not discussed during those times. At least you did use something to collect your menstrual bleeding.
