It's a sitar, live Keith Richards plays it on a nylon string electric with the bridge muted to sound like a sitar.

That swelling woom, woom, woom, woom, is Bill Wyman on the bass guitar. The guitars are by Keith Richards and Brian Jones. The sitar is played by Brian Jones.....
