You'll love Roguchi. I have two of them, and I've found that they are incredibly tough after the first year or two. Mine bloom repeatedly throughout the season, with almost equal amounts of flowers repeated four or five times. I also love that there is no hint of lavender in the blooms-- they are full on royal purple, with pure white interiors. I just love this plant. One of mine scrambles up a red twig dogwood standard, and the other up a Ginko tree. Good luck with them!

Hey there! Love your videos and you have inspired me to finally take a chance with clematis which I also have always loved. So you said you're planting group 3 clematis that don't vine? I thought they all vined? I love your idea of having them ramble across your other plants.. is that why you chose the group 3, because they don't want to climb up as vining types do? I planted my first two clematis about a month ago (Nelly Moser and Anna Louise) under my Kousa dogwood . They sat on my deck a while after purchase so they had enough growth for me to trail them up the low branches but no blooms since. I have pulled off a bunch of darkened leaves which I wasn't sure was clematis wilt or just them slowing down with the weather changes going toward Fall because most of the vine looks good. Should I trim them down for winter so they put their energy into the root system? I'm not sure what to do to ensure that they live long enough for me to see them bloom next year. Should've said, I'm in zone 6A. I'd appreciate any help you or anyone else can give me. Thanks for sharing your wealth of information with us Green Thumb wannabes 😊

Congrats on 100K! Well deserved. I planted a Rooguchi from Brushwood the year before last, with the intent to let it ramble, but I’m going to have to direct it up, at least a little bit. I’ll probably do a shorter support and let it spill, like slightly taller version of what you’re doing with the Hudsons. It completely took off this year, and tried to take over, and while I like a slightly wild garden, this was bordering on out-of-control. 😂

Do you think if I planted the clematis as a boarder like you have done, will it survive the winter of shoveling snow on top? I’m here in the south west part of Michigan. All four of these will definitely have snow piled on them. They should be just fine with it, and honestly even better than if they weren't, so long as they aren't also walked on. When I've lost clematis over winter it has been at times with huge temperature swings leading to a freeze/thaw thing (which usually means pools of water sitting on frozen ground). Snow is a great insulator and the clematis will appreciate the extra moisture in spring as well.

Group 3! That’s going to be a game changer for me. Vine wilt has happened to every clematis I’ve ever grown. Yet my sister can grow all the clematis. Are jumping worms a pest? 🤔 maybe you should do vids titled “Pints and Pests”. I don’t comment often but that came to mind when you mentioned those jumping worms. Btw, I previously asked you what the squash was that you grew and dehydrated as dog treats. Thanks for the answer. My Honey Nut Squash are doing well and as small as I wanted them to be. Not ready yet but I am looking forward to trying them!

My 2 beautiful clematis were 'dead' this year....but, I am hopeful from your instructions. May be wilt. Question: how far back/down do you cut it, level with the ground or to the height of the clematis you showed in this video? Is it too late now (mid-Sept) since I didn't cut it down earlier? (Nice to hear you pronounce Clematis as you do!)

I have 2 Summer Crush hydrangeas and a drift Rose to plant this week here in zone 6A. I have a few bags of compost and planned to put some in the holes as I have Clay to deal with and to spread a thin layer across my garden bed after my final plantings this year. At this time in the year with fall approaching in zone 6A, I'm worried that the compost might encourage new growth on what I planted a couple of months ago and what I intend to plant this week and that it might be zapped by frost. Any advice? And should I cut the blooms off my coneflowers and other plants before the frost and winter hits? I've heard that leaving the coneflowers intact helps to protect them from the cold in winter but also heard I should take off any blooms to allow the plant to concentrate on root development. Just a little confused over here so I would appreciate any help. Thank you!💚!
@TheImpatientGardener
@TheImpatientGardener Год назад
It absolutely can be confusing. Since you're dealing with clay soil, I'd recommend digging a really big hole and working that compost in with the clay (don't make a hole and then put the compost in the hole and plant in that). Work it all up together to add more drainage to a larger area. Don't worry about pushing too much growth yet this season ... they should be fine. As for the coneflowers, you can cut the flowers off if you like or let them stand. I like to let them stand for winter interest (and forage for the birds). I haven't found any research-based information specific to coneflowers about removing flowers in order to promote root growth, but if you were to do that, the time to do that would have been quite some time ago. Coneflowers are not long-lived plants anyway (although they are good reseeders), so personally, I'd enjoy them with their flowers.
