I have to say... a lot my favorite moments in smash are you losing. But not because I hate you or I want you to lose... It's because in the end, we all know you are the best. Beating hbox or leffen? eh. Beating ARMADA THE GOAT? Yeah, that's something to get excited about. so thank you. thank you so much for so much exciting melee. thank you for breathing life into this game and making yourself so good that when someone we cheer for beats you, it's as if we just beat the pokemon league for the first time again. farewell to the greatest melee singles player of all time.
It's a sad day for Melee. One of the greatest ever. I hope you can look back and be proud of what you've accomplished. Congratulations on a hell of a (singles) career.
Not "one of", but literally, factually THE best Melee player in Singles, by a far, wide and huge margin, to date. That 1-month break, after so many consecutive years of victory after victory, however, really took its toll. Now with both PPMD and Armada not competing in Singles, the next best player left is.... Hungrybox. Then dunno who would come after him, but the point is that those 2 players quitting like this means the top level game took an irreversible blow... I hope Armada returns to competing in Melee Singles someday. In any case, may he be happy.
@@RedHairdo mew2king looking like he might stop entering melee singles events for a while..focusing on his book and smash ultimate. So really it's just Hbox, Plup, Leffen, MaNg0, and Zain. PPMD...where art thou It's truly a sad day for the melee community.
Thank you so much for all you've done for the community and for the inspiration you've been throughout the years. You have a bright future ahead of you in anything you decide to do.
The one time you want it to be clickbait... To be honest though, I can't blame you. I have more respect for you than you could ever imagine. I hope you're proud of what you've done because it's not something to just gloss over. You've cemented your place in Smash Bros history.
Hey Armada- good luck with whatever road you decide to go down from this point on! From an Australian who forced her cousin to thank you for repping young link every now and then at the afterparty of BAM10 Melbourne, haha.
Armada, I'm going to miss watching you play melee. we may play different games in the smash series, but you were a role model for me and drove me to do what i do. You will always be my favorite player and i will always consider you the GOAT of melee. I wish you the best for all your future endeavors!
Holy shit... Oh no... That's too soon... But you gotta do what you want and what you think is the best. Felt like you had much more to give. I though you were one who would go on to play to your 40's and beyond. I haven't been watching Melee for a very long time but for what it's worth, I too want to thank you. Thank you for representing Sweden and putting our country highest on the map of Melee. Tack som fan för allt. But only singles, so still doubles... And YES try Ultimate! That's so hype!
love you, man. you inspired one of my best friends to pick up a controller and main peach, and he was the only person i knew in my city who would play with me, so thanks for that. melee will never die!
I always admired your consistency and drive. It’s incredible how long you were able to maintain that passion. It is truly something that everyone should strive for. I know that you will continue that passion with whatever you pursue next.
Makes me wanna cry a little because of what you've done for melee and how your play has inspired me, I'm definitely gonna miss you but I want you to be happy in your life and find success
Armada! Never will the day come that you are not sung in the legends of smash, not until smash itself vanishes into history. You are incredible and a massive inspiration. Kick ass doing whatever you do hereafter! 💝
Do what feels right. It is sad to lose such a legendary player, but like you said it was a hell of a ride! Thanks for all those years. Can't wait to see what comes next :)
I wil stay subbed to you forever. You are a melee legend, very respectful and nice individual, and down to earth. I love your youtube videos :) Do what you enjoy!
I'm actually just happy you quit singles. Focusing on doubles is really cool and I will try to watch more. I've also been looking forward to someday competing in Melee, but I feel like Ultimate could be the best place to start with competitive Smash. Maybe I will play around with teams a lot more often to honor your decision.
I will miss you and always remember your greatness in the competitive scene. Just do what makes you happy your true fans will always support you. I can’t wait to catch your future streams and videos.
I wish you came back... There's still time during this cracked Slippi era.... but the 2020's are passing by fast... It would make things much more interesting.
After watching savestate vs armada again Idk what he meant by "that never happens to me in tournaments" Idk if he meant he had fun in singles or the glitch, either way maybe its just me over thinking
Nooo Armada! Fuch! ToT I almost got to play a friendly with you back in 2014 or so I think, in houston. you were playing with a group of us one by one and when it was my turn to be next you had to go play a tournament game! I had the same exact problem and that's why i don't play really even though i wish i could. I just get too upset with myself and i just don't have any fun at all. even if i do something good, i'll either think it luck or i'll say "well i won't be able to do it again". our exact reasons aren't exactly the same but yeah, i feel you. i guess everyone deals with these problems, even the best. : (
I may be the unpopular opinion but I would say take the streaming road. I know melee and League of Legends are different but the ex-pros that stream now make A LOT more money than what they we're when they were competing professionally. It's a lot more relaxed and you can get yourself involved with your fans and do sub-matches and all sorts of stuff. Pulling in big numbers with streaming will help grow the community too and get more people involved. Good luck in whatever route you decide to take you're a big inspiration and one of the reasons I got into playing melee competitively.
It's hard to find the words, so I just wanna say thanks. Thanks for giving us all so much great melee to watch over the years. Your consistent results are a testament to your work ethic and training, and that will inspire players for years to come. Can't wait to see you push the doubles game to places we can't even currently comprehend, and good luck in your non-melee ventures too!
The important part is that you do what is best for you. I wish you the best and thank you for what you have given to the smash community for all these years.
@@Jagger02 well even if smash 4 player only, who dunno armada, leffen, hbox, m2k, mango and some melee big names? Melee still smash anyway lol, still close relation.
Love you Adam!! I support you always and I think I speak for all of us players when I say that you've led our community through example all these years and shown us what it means to be a competitor of the highest level. Just wanted to say that I've always appreciated your humbleness, your drive, and the way you can see the bigger picture. Take care dude. And send me a message if you're ever trying to talk about anything-- especially teams. Looking forward to the next time we face in doubles against our rivals. 💖
nah losers finals will be that, Evo 2020 will be Isai making a comeback to melee in winners grand finals, the other spot will be determined by the winner of ppmd vs armada
It was an honor watching you play for so many years, your fox was always firmly in my top 3 characters to watch and I wish you all the best in your future endeavors. Farewell brudder
“I think one of the biggest things for this game (Melee) is upsets and regional or international rivalries, Armada is probably one of the best things thats ever happened for this game... Come in with a character that nobody thought can win anything, Peach, and he whooped all our butts at Genesis (2)... and he almost won the first Genesis...” -PPMD (The Smash Brothers, Episode 9) The impact you’ve had on this game is arguably the largest, by far. You’ve done so much for the community and you’ve set the standard for being the GOAT. We will always support you Armada. Find your happiness brudder!
He's not. If he REALLY wanted to come back we would have at least seen him TRY by now. I'm not him so I don't know shit but I feel like if I really wanted to make the comeback I would have tried joining a major by now even if I ended up having to drop out early or something. But his health might be that poor idk. I hope not. Want the best for PPMD.
Wow. People use the phrase “end of an era” a lot, but that’s really what this is. Armada’s legacy in singles is one of the most impactful in Melee. I agree with Adam and probably everyone else when he says he achieved his goal of being the greatest of all time. Regardless of what rankings have been, I have considered Armada to be the greatest in the game for a long time. You will be missed, and I look forward to seeing the BRUDDERS kill it in dubs.
Armada has factually been the best for over 3 consecutive years. The only other player in smash history that I think could be a match for Armada is PPMD, another genius, but he quit in 2015. This is quite a pity. I'll miss Armada in Singles. I hope one day he returns.
The era of the 5 Gods is over. Dr. PP is hardly playing, hungrybox is semi retired, m2k hasn't had the same presence as he used to, mango is in the same boat as m2k, and now Armada is leaving a large part of the smash community. I began to get interested in smash because of the gods and how unfathomably good they are. I rooted for mango at Apex 2014 and I enjoyed the leffen challenge. As with any person, they can't stay at the top forever. Respect for Armada and the gods for being as good as they were. I unfortunately don't enjoy smash as much but best of luck to Armada.
imo the decline of the Gods is (not entirely but overall) good for the community as a whole. whereas for over a decade it was near impossible to become the best or w/e, now regular ass people can see the likes of Plup and Leffen go from local randos to beating gods, winning EVOs, etc. they weren't called the Gods for nothing; almost no one won anything major when two or more of them were present til very recently. that kind of dominance is unnerving at the least to newcomers, and the Melee scene always needs newcomers. the massive doc influx that literally saved Melee will die down eventually. also Armada and competitive Melee are relatively young. he just needs a break (especially since he's the type to never give himself breaks, metaphorically and literally), but he'll be back. they alllllllllllways come back. unless you're Isai and are therefore physically unable to give even the slightest fraction of a fuck.
In all honesty, I will always think of you as the greatest melee player who ever lived. Your peach will always be the legendary standard. Thank you for all the massively entertaining and masterful sets, will never be quite the same without big bad Armada and his turnips waiting at the top of winners bracket. Much respect, man.
Out of all the bad things to happen in 2018 for Smash, this and ZeRo quitting were the worst things to happen. However, just like ZeRo, I respect your decision. It’s great you still will play in doubles, and you definitely deserve to take a break from singles. It’s alright since you’re not doing as well, but we’ll definitely miss you singles. I’ve always looked up to your as an inspiration for playing Smash, so thanks for everything you have done in the Smash community as a player and influencer. Hopefully we’ll be able to see you more as a commentator as well!
Youtbe recommends to you "bizzaro flame best moments" thumbnail showing armada in defeat This really isnt the time youtube Someone tell grsmash to do an armada best moments vid plz
Oh my god, I almost cannot believe this... This might be the greatest loss the Melee community has seen in its entire history. It hurts, but I wish the best to you Armada!
Wow, I really thought this was one of those Pengboys quote thumbnails that was taken out of context. Melee will never be the same without you, and I can see just in this video how much it's tearing you up to make an announcement like this, but as cliche as it sounds, you only live once. If this isn't what you wanna do right now anymore, it's super sad to see you go from my preferred event, but nobody wants you suffering through doing this if you don't want to. You've accomplished so much, there isn't a single thing left to regret. You said it yourself, you wanted to be the best of all time, and you undoubtably did, so I can definitely understand. Rest easy for now, and hey if you ever wanna come back, the Melee community will always be there with open arms!
“Having motivational issues”. In other words, you simply don’t want to do it anymore. This is called getting burned out, and it happens in literally everything in life. You are still a very young person, and you deserve to live your life how you want. And, guess what, Melee singles aren’t going anywhere so if you ever wanted to do it again, you could. In other words, you lose absolutely nothing by doing this. Good job for following your heart bro, you are doing the right thing imo.
"Melee singles aren't going anywhere" I wouldn't be so sure of that. Melee lives because people care about the storylines, if all the gods retired tomorrow, supermajors would no longer get the viewership and attendance to support it, majors would become regionals, regionals locals, smaller locals would die off. Especially if the gods moved to Ultimate. When Mango got eliminated from Full Bloom earlier this year, viewership drop from 60k to 40k instantly. I don't think you realise how much of this community rides on Mango and M2K's presence, if Mango decided to peace out and go full time streamer and M2K went to Ultimate, Leffen would probs go to DBFZ and the whole scene would fall apart.
Alex Rose I’m not saying that viewership won’t go down if all the g-ds quit tomorrow, which I think we both realize is an extreme circumstance, especially considering new talent like zain is emerging. I don’t think any logical person would argue that point. I’m saying that I do not believe it will get to the point in any where close to the near future that it will completely die off or even close to anything like that. No matter how many new games come out, Melee continues to thrive and this is not only because of a few individuals, it’s also because of the culture that has been derived from the best game ever made. Melee is too close to so many peoples’ hearts and so many new people are coming into the game that it will not die off especially anytime soon if not ever. If you want, we can look back in ten years and make a bet if Melee singles will still be a thing. I’m betting that it for sure will be, no matter what happens. The only way this Could happen, imo, is if a better game comes out. Well, Melee came out in 2001, and we still haven’t seen a better game come out. This is how hundreds of thousands of people feel at the end of the day. If this was false, the game wouldn’t be here today.
After PP, another God leaves melee. I hope that a new generation of smashers will improve the level like you did when you reached the first place in the world... «What is a warrior ? One who has finished his battle somewhere on this planet.» Bull, Cowboy Bepop, 1998
imagine if the new documentary in the making will start where the first left off and cover everything until now... the documentary can take its time, i want it to be perfect.
I would lie if I say that I didnt see it coming, but I always thought "is Armada one of the 5 Gods he would never quit singles" but lately on the stream I noticed that your lack of motivation for singles Do what you think is the best for you and be happy doing it.
While I am disappointed, I have grown too much respect for you over the years to not trust your judgement. I hope you can find what makes you happy and live a happy, healthy life. Take it easy, man.
The greatest to ever touch a controller. Not even talking about how godly of a player/competitor you are .... as a person you've been nothing but respectful, humble, a great role model and an all around great guy. Melee is/was so lucky to have you as one of it's biggest faces, you make everyone love the game because they love you. You've already cemented your status in Melee, now do what you makes you happy. Best of you luck to you Adam in everything you decide to do in life.
Wow Summit without Armada... this is hard to believe.. Don't worry dude of course we're sad but definitly not disappointed and we do respect the decision and we look forward to see you in doubles and commentating ! Have you ever consider entering tournament singles with a low-tier ? It might gives you motivation as you can see it as a challenge
I really only got into watching competitive smash around the ultimate invitational but after evo I became a huge fan of yours. I went back and watched tons of old matches. You are BY FAR my favorite melee player/Smasher in general so I’m sad to hear you leaving the singles tournaments but I guess that means I got to watch teams more. I really hope you do play in Ultimate I think that game really needs strong personalities that’s one of the things that makes melee so fun to watch is the people but also the gameplay. I know what ever you do you will be great at it and I wish you the best of luck staying happy love you!
I legitimately cried over this and I'm not embarrassed to admit it. Regardless of if he's your favorite player, everyone with surface knowledge of competitive smash melee grieves for the loss of the amazing and near unstoppable armada. People will be perpetually praising his legendary legacy forever nonetheless.
