Michael Biehn as Kyle Reese does such an incredible job. There's a certain intensity, almost manic, in the way he acts. You really get the feeling that this is a man who's spent his entire life fighting the machines, he's laser-focused on his mission and won't let anything stop him.

I love how in the original Arnie looks and acts like an actual machine. If you look closely, in the scene where Arnie is trying to locate the vehicle Sarah's in, he doesn't just look around, it seems like he's scanning his surroundings for anything that might resemeble his target. He doesn't talk much in the original film either, unlike in T2, in which all he does most the time is shooting the shit with John, like he doesn't have anything better to do.
@ShadeUnderTheSoul

Well to be fair that T-800 in T2 had been reprogrammed, and probably made to more talkative with John. That T-800 was still a totally ruthless machine.

@valdivia8383 Год назад
Also depending on which version of T2 you’re watching the T-800 mentions it learns more when it observes or interacts with humans on the extended version since the cpu was reset it made sense it would ask all questions or become chatty cause it’s able to learn more and no longer restricted. Liked in this movie and Arnold added was every time he loaded or reloaded a gun he doesn’t look and does it as a machine
@Veridiano02
@Veridiano02 Год назад
In the second movie he was programed not only to protect John Connor, but to also obey every order given from the boy. The boy asks stuff. The terminator answers becase that's what he's programed to do. And then his learning process unit is reactivated in full, so he begins to develop a personality of it's own. It actually makes a lot of sense. I mean, speaking as if the first movie was a masterpiece and the sequel wasn't. Terminator 2 was a masterpiece, doing many things better than the first one, and the first one was a great movie.

Yeah, he was really the most formidable human soldier in the whole franchise. He continually out-thought and out-maneuvered the T-800, and dealing with contemporary cops was trivial for him. His main issue was that he just didn't have the tools to finish off the T-800. If the film showed Reese getting access to a .50 BMG rifle in the beginning, it would have been over with quickly. :-) Michael Biehn as an actor made it all believable. Watching these clips made me realize how good he was at this role.

I love the way exposition is handled here. There isn’t a calm back and forth with Sarah going “what is going on here?” And Reese explaining perfectly. Instead, they keep the fast paced, frantic action going on. Sarah, as a civilian, acts naturally by being visibly panicked and uncertain of the situation, and Reese keeps having his train of thought interrupted by the chase outside. He feels to be mostly in control of the situation, but it’s obvious by the way he’s speaking, the way he ignores explaining things that Sarah obviously won’t understand, and the swear visibly beading on his face that he’s also under a lot of pressure, trying to evade police, the terminator, and calm and explain the situation to Sarah, all in unfamiliar territory. All of this with quick cuts back to the action so the audience doesn’t feel as though things have suddenly become safe. Reese has to actually evade the cops long enough so he can hide and eventually explain things in more detail. It’s a lot of exposition, but it’s delivered slowly and in a natural way with what’s happening in the actual story.

This scene gets even better when you watch it for several times. A couple of things I noticed this time is how Kyle Reese is driving his car without his headlights off. It's incredible because it portrays how he's strategic and adaptable. Strategic because he's harder to spot this way (even to a point a cop has to flash his searchlight to identify it was him), and adaptable, which to me speaks volumes about the worldbuilding of this movie - he can see quite clearly in the night and moving fast at the same time because there were plenty of times when he had to drive cars in the ruins in darkness away from the HKs. If anything, the street lights make it seem like a cakewalk for him, because he definetly has seen way worse. Which in turn builds a character - a soldier who has not known anything but war. All he says to Sarah are commands, his rank and his serial number, which doesn't make a lick of sense to her. How Michael Biehn didn't make it in the big leagues is beyond me.
@andywilliams7323
@andywilliams7323 10 месяцев назад
Cameron and Beihn's agent both believed he had what it took to be a major star. But according to Cameron, Michael Biehn didn’t like playing the Hollywood game, schmoozing people and all that. He never was never interested in fame and never hired a publicist or did enough to hustle and promote himself, and that's what held him back and prevented him from making it big.

0:29 is a very good camera shot. The way it captures the car swinging around and the smoke from the rear tires leaves you terrified.

In one of his flashbacks (or flashforwards...🤔) we see him to drive a car in the middle of the battle avoiding ruins. I guess he didn't learn in a driving school in his time, but more for natural selection!😏

Cars are still usable in the future, it's just that it is hard to find fuel for it. According to Terminator game that was a tie-in to T2, they were modified to carry machine gun and was used to fight Hunter-Killer.

When Kyle said "Not a robot! Cyborg!" Well, technically, Sarah was right; the Terminator is basically a robot. The flesh its given is merely a disguise for the robot so it can blend in with human society.

No, they actually drive normally. But apparantly the box-shape car of the 70-80s have a very poor handling and is prone to oversteer when they go over 80kph. Just trying to turn the damn thing in high-speed and you'll 'drift' immediately.
