This were lesson to the ummah, dua to Allah the most Merciful and do not despair in the mercy of Allah as Allah is all powerful on anything and Allah will ease these difficulties for them as he wills. Which a Muhmin fears Allah saves from it as seen in hadith
It's also important to remember this. Yes maybe for the Shaheed who is killed in battle he will not experience the agonies of death because time is too short e.g. If he is shot directly in the heart or blown up by an artillery shell etc. But the vast majority of humans, Muslims and kuffar, will experience it. In fact even animals experience it too. There may be some people who might be spared from it, but that's like less than one percent of humanity. Imam Ghazali may Allah have mercy on him says that one should not think they're safe from that sort of pain. Besides, as a believer, the pain should be the least of your worries because what awaits you may be even better or worse depending on how you die, good believer or Kafir or evil sinner etc. Rather one should concentrate on preparing to beat the Shaytan at that time, which is why one dies as they lived. If one lived their whole life in a good way, or repented sincerely just in time, then Allah willing he will be protected. Some of the scholars even say at the time of death, for a good believer, Allah will send Jibreel alayhis Salam to protect him from the Shaytan. But if you did not pray salah, fast, do what Allah ordered you to do, and indulged in sins, then you have nobody to blame but yourself because you've just given the Shaytan a huge door into your soul for him to play with it as he wishes. Which is why in some cases when you tell a corrupt individual to say the shahadah, they start singing at the time of their death na'uthubillah. MMay Allah protect us!
