I could watch slow jewelry sorting for _hours_ so no worries there haha! I strongly recommend separating "sentimental (won't wear, will store)" jewelry from "I will wear this" jewelry into separate boxes. Makes it so much easier to find what you want to wear and declutter more sentimental items over time.
Lori, thank you so much for taking us on this journey with you. I sell on Mercari and found that every room in our 3 bedroom ranch house has items waiting to be sold. I have big shopping bags from thrift shops and I am surprised when I look inside and I have things in cabinets, drawers and shelves. It has been getting out of control and joining you on your decluttering journey has helped me to let go of a lot of things. My husband and I both thank you for getting me to see that I, too, have too much and I need to pare down and get a bunch of good items listed. It is very emotional, finally letting go of a bunch of baggage. Thank you again for leading the way. ❤️
You have that beautiful charm bracelet from your mother in law…. Add to it using the pendant, charm and other pieces of jewelry that have sentimental value but you really don’t want to wear the necklace or bracelet. This way you keep the memories all together in one bracelet….. will make a wonderful gift to your daughter or granddaughter. Be sure to write the history about each special charm or pendant…… it will become a family heirloom that can be taken out every so often and enjoyed and easily stored too!!!
Your decluttering has got me inspired.. I just SO need to get rid of stuff! I am not a fan of dolls, but my sister was. Everybody has something they really love and have a hard time parting with. You are doing great though. I am betting when you are done with the decluttering it will feel like a very large weight has been lifted. Keep going Lori!
You are inspiring, transparent, and humble. Please know what you are doing right now is helping us all. So sorry you have had a dental problem. Many blessings and prayers are sent your way ❤.
What a beautifully kept collection, & some originally for only $15/piece!! As a fellow doll collector, I would 100% take the time to sell each item individually. Collecting takes time and effort - you deserve to get as much back as you can! Thanks for sharing with us and best wishes to you moving forward!!
Oh Lori, You are so good at making us fell we can do it. So sweet. I am cleaning out some fabric, (why I am keeping any of it I don't know) but it is such a help to have company while I do this. Moving is a nightmare if you are a collector. Trust me, go through it every year and let a bit more go. Thanks for spending this time with us
Not boring at all! Watching you go through your things helps many of us decide what to keep and what to purge. No need to feel embarrassed at all! Helps me realize just how much stuff I have. I've been slowly going through things since watching you and donating. My first 'grownup' ring I got from my Grandpop in high school.(early 70's) It was an opal and ruby ring in 14k. Unfortunately later on the opal got cracked. :( Jewelry is something I don't need to go through. What I have is fine jewelry and I don't have a large amount. You're making great progress, Lori!!
Love this series ! It’s very thoughtful honest and educational . Those American girl dolls .. I understand . Once they are all rehomed you will feel so amazing !
I hope you aren’t really embarrassed by your American Doll collection, if folks were honest they would have that many as well with working there and getting those deals. What is most important is you realizing this is something you should handle before it’s left for your kids to do. Secondly , celebrate yourself. You’ve had two weeks to make excuses to not do something and you found a way to accomplish a task anyhow. That’s commendable because face pain is not fun. Kudos to you and thanks for bringing us along on your journey and encouraging us all to look around and realize we don’t really need all that we have. ❤ Hope your pain heals quickly
I'm not embarrassed by my collection, I'm embarrassed by the size of it. I stopped making mindful, intentional purchases and just bought..to buy at some point. I want to enjoy it because I love my doll collection. I'll be able to do that with less. xoxo Thank you for your kind words.
Loving this series. I started reselling at the beginning of the year and it quickly got out of hand and then the clutter started to collect in other parts of my life. I still have kids growing out of clothes and if I don’t purge it doesn’t happen. I got to the kids’ closets last weekend and that felt great. This long distance buddy system is working for me! 😆I couldn’t wait for Friday to see what you had accomplished. This week was BIG for you, girl! You should be proud. And while recovering from a tooth extraction! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I love this series Lori- it makes my Friday evenings! Thank- you for taking us on your journey. I started reselling by letting go of much of my Silpada collection. I go through the rest of if occasionally and list another piece or two when I realize I’m no longer wearing them. Going through it at my own pace has made it less difficult and I enjoy what I keep so much more. Excited to see what area you tackle next😘
Seeing your gorgeous jewelry collection, it saddens me that all of my jewelry with sentimental attachments was stolen in a home robbery back in the 90s. The new stuff was replaced, but the items with sentimental value were irreplaceable. Hold them dear to your heart! 💙
Thanks for the inspiration on decluttering..I took everything out of my laundry room and disposed, donated, or repurposed a lot of stuff I had stored in there. Thanks for the inspiration! My daughter still has all her AG stuff but now has a daughter herself. Bitty Baby is on generation 2 and holding up perfect…❤
I just discovered your channel and felt sorry for you in the first few minutes because of your dental problem. I remember when I had all 4 of my wisdoms taken out at the same time at age 19 in 1979 and I was a Dental Assistant as well and had to set up my own tray for the procedure. I was put out with GA and woke up and could not open my whole mouth for one month. My wisdoms were full boney impactions and they were all sideways in my mouth so I had sutures in my gums for all of them. I had to drink my food and talk at work with my mouth closed and I had black and blue marks on my face on my cheeks (both sides). It was quite the experience. I sympathize with you on your doll collection as well. I only have 9, I believe AG dolls. I love the Pleasant dolls more than when Mattel took over. I have my first Kirsten when I was 30 years old and got her in 1989. I have almost all of her collection. Not all the furniture though. Samantha, Molly and Emily were my next dolls that were purchased when Mattel took over Pleasant Company, got them in early 2000's. I have always thought that the original dolls would be the most valuable because they came from the original company. I love the Historical line the best and the original dolls. Good luck with selling them. Will you alert us when you sell them and where you sell them so we can bid if we wish to? Hope you feel better, you poor woman.
Just finished watching your video for this week 🎉🎉.. I hardly have any jewelry next to what you have.. but there’s a lot I’m holding onto that I don’t wear.. so I’m gonna clean some out.. thanks for doing all of this for so many of us..❤
I look so forward to these videos. I’ve collected Christmas ornaments over the years. So hard of letting go and my kids don’t want them either. They already have the ones they wanted. To me the ornaments have such sentimental attachment.
I just love your heart and your authenticity, Lori. I don't think there's anyone else I would want to watch sort through jewelry, but with you I didn't want it to end. Brava to you for the way you show up and inspire.
Thank you for sharing this video! I needed this! It’s been 5 years unfortunate events-since losing my parents, COVID - losing people in my life from that, my husband’s illnesses ,two of my children growing up and moving out, a flood in my basement and..and..and. I have always taken so much pride in my home - right now it is a mess! I know it’s time for my idea of normalcy here…One drawer, closet, room at a time! Bless you❤
No need to be embarrassed. You are so inspiring for taking action….I am also a reseller and have not thrifted in a month plus…..and also decluttering….feels so good.
Love this great job, hope you feel better and you made me cry watching you cry you are not crying about the stuff its the memories its so hard sometimes it was the Pottery barn sheets it wasn't the sheets but the memories of your kids being little. As a mom of three grown children one 40, 31, 25 its hard I miss them being little. the things that associated them to a certain thing like your pottery barn sheets, or the memories of the dolls and joy they brought you. I donated 9 bags today. Mine is before being a reseller I shopped a lot. then reselling I had a reason to shop. I have more than enough things to list till 2024 and be ok. I didn't shop all week and I am so proud of myself I did one project at a time . I will be working on my unlisted death piles the next few days . I Love that. you started this and I am so happy and thankful God brought me to your channel so thank you Lori. You truly are an inspiration.
Thank you for your honesty Lori, what you are doing is something I've been doing for sometime now, a bit at a time. I absolutely love Marie Kondo when she said to someone, you don't need to be minimalist, just be joyful, when they felt like they had pressure from others to get rid of everything. That's how I look at what I wish to keep in my life, the joy, and you are right when it comes to collections, and other things, it takes time. What I've done is the things I wish to keep a memory of, however, not really wanting to keep the item, I take a picture of myself with it and keep the picture. Thank you again for your honesty, and vulnerability, it's hard to put yourself out there like this! Sending speedy healing for your tooth!
Jewelry is one of the hardest things to declutter. I’ve tried and failed at it many times. You did an amazing job with yours. I’m in awe of your AG collection. My sisters and I had Samantha, Kirsten and Molly when we were younger and I loved them so much. Wishing I still had those. I can’t wait to follow along on this journey as you go through those items. I know it will be tough with such a large collection, but you’re doing so well each week with the decluttering. I don’t have any doubts that you’ll rock this too.
Hi Lori! Thank you for these videos I started doing my purge this week. I did my bedroom went through my closet and all my drawers. I couldn’t believe how much stuff I had I was able to dispose, donate, and I have a few that I’m going to list. Now that I’m retired, there’s no need for me to keep all these clothes. Today I am tackling the linen closet. Went to the store. Bought some cute little baskets. I can’t wait to get it done. I look forward to every Friday to see what you’re tackling next and it motivates me. 😊
I literally went through this exercise last week! I had 3 tackle boxes full of jewelry I haven't worn in years. I felt embarrassed and had no one watching me! 😂 I personally connect with almost everything you're sharing with us lately, I hope these videos are therapeutic for you. I think it takes courage to show vulnerability and open up about our habits and traits. Even more courage to make big changes in life! My husband and I recently downsized from a big 5 br home to a small 3 br 1700 sf home... kiddos grown and tiny house living now. Unfortunately we didnt purge before the move and now im drowning in STUFF! I decided to start reselling a few months ago after finding your channel and a few others. Long winded text, but I just wanted to thank you for sharing, and tell you that I love your channel. ❤
My partner was a collector, I had so much to go through when he passed. It hurt to let go because it's something that was his, but they're just things, the memories are what lives on. Love this series. You're doing great!! ❤
No one should judge u. Everyone has something. I have piles, too. I love what u are doing. I am also trying. It is very hard for a thrifter, to not collect too much stuff. Keep going. U are helping the rest of us.❤
Lori, your journey is so inspirational for so many people. I agree with you, we change and things around us change as well. You are not the same person you were, let's say, five years ago so what you are going through is a natural thing. I wish I could come to your house and help you and Tina! Keep up the good work. Blessings.
Congrats on the jewelry drawer… wow cleaned space and oodles of sourced items! Also sorry for you pain… not the tooth but the emotions bubbling up, useful pain being purged. Thank you for your transparency Lori, so touching.
Letting go is tough. When you are a Mother of adult children your role changes. For me I filled up the void and stayed busy by sourcing. At the time sales were. booming. Not so much anymore with things being so pricey etc. Now like you I am facing my STUFF and shaking my head...I ask myself "Now what?" So I am letting go little by little just like you. I don't have any help so this is all on me. Thanks for your inspiration. We CAN do this!
I love slow-fashion Fridays! I recommend you put your sentimental pieces that you aren't wearing into a fireproof safe. My grandparents had a housefire (their heating blanket shorted out and caught their bed on fire in the middle of the night) everyone, including the dog survived thankfully. But, Grandma's jewelry melted into a blob.
I've been watching these every Saturday morning. I end up decluttering something over the course of the weekend and it feels so nice! Thank you for sharing with us!
I have also decided to let some things go recently I have been taking things to my daughter's flea market booth mostly jewelry and I sold 2 American girl dolls I only had 9 to begin with but I'll be keeping the rest for now🥰
Thank you for showing up even after just having procedure. Since watching this series, I got such itch to purge my house but since I do it so often, I don’t have anything major. But yesterday evening, I got enlightened to do my fathers spaces - 4 houses FULL of stuff. Unfortunately, little to no junk, meaning I can’t throw much of the stuff, most has to be sold or donated. But literally - can’t wait!
You are an inspiration ! You are doing so well - it’s a pleasure watching your journey. You even decluttered your wisdom tooth ! 🤣 Hope you are feeling better ! Great job 🩷💚
Gm, you should check in your area for fairs or antique fair or upcoming Xmas fair and set up and only sell your American girls dolls and accessories. Beautiful collection. 🌹🌹🌹
Lori, I’m going through this with you!!! I collected and sold LilaRoe 😅 I still have garbage bags full! and need to get rid of them, but who really wants them! 😂 I was surprised to see your American Girl Collection. I would keep a few special ones for future grandchildren and sell all the rest! Thank you so much for helping me get motivated and I hope your mouth is feeling much better now! ❤
Thank you for taking us along on your journey! I loved listening to you "talk" through your jewelry - reminded me of the conversations I have with myself! ❤❤❤
Hi Lori, new subscriber from Cape Town South Africa 🇿🇦. Wow what a fantastic doll collection. It's amazing how one can accumulate so much stuff and how if not managed can get overwhelmed. I enjoy these videos.
Please do not feel bad buying those dolls and doll accessories. Look at it as an investment. They (the store) made the price so reasonable to those working. I only wish I could have bought the dolls and accessories for those prices. Love your videos. Hope your mouth is feeling better.
I haven't watched the video yet, but saw the title and said "OMG" I did declutter my entry way closet, I opened it and saw all these jackets that I never wear and listed them all on my Posh closet! Next my pj's! Thank you! I did find a Sonali!!
You are doing great with your decluttering. I have a couple of dresses that I wore to special parties that I've decided to sell. I have pictures of the events so I don't need the dress. Hope your face is feeling better. Dental work is rough business.
Its just Not the same anymore Lori😢Wish Ure Daughter Loved them even a smidge of how U love them❤Not saying Your daughters ideas&loves pale in conparison they will show thru Cuz of U! But Her own.. Will Not be different In heart of hearts... Hi Lori.. pictures of you dolls and make a collage to frame would take less room and always give you great memories.. just an idea.. I’m so excited for you to be able to give your dolls a new home…. I didn’t think that you would ever give up your dolls.. .. what a breakthrough.. I honestly think that this is a pivotal moment .. the rest should be so much easier.. I’m very proud of you.. keep up the good work.. ❤️🌸
No need to feel embarrassed over your collection. You have almost $15,000 in inventory that you don’t have to spend time thrifting. You will do great selling this collection. Some of my best sales were items I personally owned and decided to let go. Good luck!
Another great video! The American Girl dolls take me back to my childhood - I had Kit! This weekend I cleaned out my nightstand. Not too dramatic, but I threw away 2 grocery bags worth of trash from it 😬 I’ve been eyeing my jewelry for months - I need to tackle it next! This was such good inspo!
You have dolls like I have bras. I have just collected them over the last year and I’m sure I have over 800. I have listed over 300 - but I’m still in the weeds - 😂 I have been listing Them but I just couldn’t get my speed up, so I started timing my self to see how many I could list in 30 minutes. I had to turn it into a game to get this stuff up online. I like this video because it makes me stay home and list what I have and not bring more bras here 😂
Great video! I bought my first ever designer item (a David Yurman box chain) from one of the stores in Chicago and I absolutely love it! It’s a very timeless style I will have forever! I think that’s how lots of are wearing and buying accessories and jewelry now. You made great choices which what you kept! You are doing an amazing job! ❤
You're doing such a great job & I'm still purging from months ago. I don't have the time that I'd really like to spend on it as I'm the only bread winner & sales have not been the best lately. I wish I could snap my fingers & have it all done, but I'm doing it little by little and I have to step back & look at that & not the whole picture in this case as I will be overwhelmed. I don't have many personal things at all, but it's my inventory to always go through as constant changes take place in this business. Have a great weekend!
Hi Lori, I'm glad to hear you will keep some of them, the ones you love the best - because you may have grandchildren in the future who may want to play with grandma's dolls when they visit or you may want to gift to them...either way if you keep out some I think that's perfectly fine. Sort the wheat from the chaff as they say. Hopefully the dolls and accessories that went up will make up for any that went down. I have a feeling you will do well with your sorting / selling. Good luck!
