Dear Mr Loo, I have 3 comments to make: 1) You are emotional because you are proud of your country & when you see your country men bullied overseas, you get emotional. It's perfectly understandable. 2) Mr Chew is yet another example of the many Singaporeans from humble background who have benefitted from Singapore's progress. Sad to say, some Singaporeans do not appreciate the good work of the PAP government. Instead of seizing opportunities to improve their lives, they focus their energies on opposing the government. Singapore is ethlically diverse with a zero tolerance on racism. How can a man graduating from Harvard be so thick, or is he being deliberately offensive?

It's really not about Mr Chew or Singaporeans. It's a reflection how American politicians behave in international arena as a bully. It's about the sad state of American politics that US politicians are themselves a part of the problem and no longer trying to solve the real problems for Americans. It's sad for the world too (including Singapore) as a world divided by bigotry, fears and hate WILL not be able to stand up to the existential threats of climate change, AI and arms race. This is also a reminder that Songaporeans should be fiercely NEUTRAL (with Asean) not to be anti-China nor anti-US and be a friend to all. Singaporeans do well in demonstrating to the world that peoples of different ethnicity can coexist in peace, mutual respect and prosperity. The world can and must too for humanity to survive its darkest times posed by bigotry, exceptionism and war mongering.

Chew Shouqi is definitely impressive. I think one of the things that enabled his success is that he can work with the Chinese from China, the Americans, and I'm sure many other peoples too. It means that he is open-minded to see things from other peoples' perspectives, flexible in dealing with people from different background and have great communication skills.

As a human being I am also offended by the bullying and I can see the fear of Chinese by the American politician.

The questions came from a place where they are trying to understand how deep the level of ties that the TikTok CEO has with China. You can see this further down the line of questioning. It starts with nationality, then followed by association with CCP and then his values and beliefs. They asked him about Tiananmen to see if he's able to present publicly a different stance from the CCP. It is not an attempt to diminish Singapore.

He was not’ grilled’ but bullied ( my opinion). I feel pity for him.

During the testify before senate’s committee, senators can ask any question they want to clarify about any matter related to the subject. Also, all the answers during the testify will be documented and informations will be keep as record. American’s politicians want American’s informations to be protect and keep it safe from foreign’s governments. No matter who you are regardless which’s country you have citizenship with, you still can be affiliate or associate with communist’s China. Therefore, all questions for Mr Chew are totally necessary and needed.

He knew exactly what he was doing and why he needs to ask such questions.
