1) Why do I cut up bags from the supermarket and bake them in the oven? Look what came of it.
There's no escape from plastic bags from supermarkets. Any purchase, even a small one, is placed in a package, probably to show high customer service. Sometimes you even ask them not to do it. After all, a bunch of packages are lying at home and no longer fit into the box.
We're just not used to throwing away something new and usable. Basically, the bags are needed in the refrigerator, since any food must be wrapped so that it does not get airy and there is no smell.
And from cut bags you can make yarn and knit various things for the home - rugs, bags, baskets, toys and much more.
I will be crocheting a napkin for a hot mug.
- First, the tape is cut; to do this, I folded the bags evenly and cut pieces 5 cm long. The thickness of the yarn depends on this value. If the bags are of different thicknesses, then the pieces need to be cut larger or smaller.
- Each part was cut into strips and rolled into balls. But along the way, I realized that it was better to cut pieces 2.5 cm wide and not cut. They look like rings. These rings must be threaded into each other and tightened into a knot; the yarn will look like a chain, but it is a solid thread.
- Since I have separate strips, when I ran out of one while knitting, I added another and continued knitting. As a result, pieces remain on the reverse side.
- I knitted the napkin in a circle with single crochets so that it would not curl, I knitted 2 loops in some loops.
- When I knitted everything, I cut off the ends, leaving 0.5 cm. I set these edges on fire with matches and carefully glued the melted plastic to the canvas with my hands.
- The napkin turned out to be 18 cm in diameter, ironed it through the gauze so that all the loops were aligned.
- Then I laid parchment paper on a baking sheet from the oven, put a napkin there and baked it until it was hot. This took 10 minutes.
- I dipped a hot napkin into cold water.
- As a result, it became stiffer and harder.
The napkin can be knitted with a different knitting stitch, openwork or granny square.
2) I collected a whole mountain of plastic bags and recycled them wisely and for the benefit of the house. It turned out to be a useful and interesting thing.
If you want to diversify your interior in a cheap and cheerful way, then you should consider creating a rug based on plastic bags. It is the use of used bags that will replace expensive jute rope.
You will also need garden polypropylene twine. Which can be purchased cheaply at any hardware store. I have a reel of 1000 meters for 350 rubles. There are also leftovers from last year.
This budget-friendly method will add bright colors to your home, as the twine is sold in all colors of the rainbow and varies in size.
- First, you need to make yarn from the bags; its thickness should be about 0.5 cm in diameter, or more is possible.
- The glued bottom of the bags is cut off, then you need to cut strips about 10 cm wide. You get rings that need to be connected to each other.
Now you can start weaving. In principle, everything is done by hand. You only need a crochet hook to pull the rope out.
- At the beginning of weaving, garden twine is tied to a rope made from bags.
- Twine is wound in a spiral around the rope and connected into a small ring.
- Now the same thing is done, but every 2-3 cm the twine captures the coil twisted earlier.
- The entire rug is woven using this principle.
- To make it easier to weave, a piece of twine approximately 3 meters long is cut for work. When finished, another segment is attached.
- At the end I attached the fringe.
A rug made from bags will come in handy in the bathroom, toilet or at the front door in the hallway. It turns out tough and holds its shape well.
3) Maybe stop accumulating a mountain of bags in the closet. I'll show you what interesting and useful thing I made from them.
- Before knitting, you need to unravel the bags into “yarn”. This is done very simply - fold the bag lengthwise and cut off the handles and bottom.
- The package must be straightened and folded again in the same way, but leave 4-5 cm on one edge without folding. Cut the fringe every 2-2.5 cm on the folded part, without cutting to the edge. Cut diagonally so that you get a single thread, roll it into a ball.
- The bag can be knitted from two or several colors. Mine is multi-colored, but more white, which connects everything together.
- I knitted 24 squares for the bag.
- I sewed them together with a large plastic yarn needle, we got two rainbow fabrics.
- Using single crochet stitches, I knitted a strip of 10 loops to connect the two parts of the bag, and crocheted it to the fabric on both sides.
- Now I tied the bag around with single crochets.
- For the handles, I tied a thread and knitted a chain of air loops along the length of the handle and made it wider by tying rows.
- All the work took five evenings watching TV, without straining.
