Erased is an interesting one, people don’t like the ending but I think it is completely fine and I love the show.

I hope Arnold doesn’t read this But you can’t lie the culprit was so damn obvious that’s not how your write a mystery, the culprit has to be like not so obvious but clues that can guild the viewer/reader to a truth but also throw them off like give us a fake culprit then BOOM plot twist it was that guy ya know? but for Erased the culprit was so damn obvious and it ruin the show for me plus the ending yeah that sucked too, this show isn’t bad I’ll give it a 6/10 but it’s not the best mystery

that's a valid criticism, but that's not why (most) people dislike the ending from what i've seen@@momoblight2902 (spoilers below) they hate it because the MC didn't end up with the girl from his childhood, which is just really weird. they were not being set up for a relationship and he was a full 30yo man in a kid's body whose main priority was to save her life. and all people care about is that they didn't end up together?

@momoblight2902 my understanding is that it's writer intended for it to be a sci-fi, thriller, crime drama. Not all crime dramas need to mysteries.

On your magazine question, most manga in Japan are released chapter by chapter in periodical magazines, the most famous is weekly shounen jump, and later compiled into tankobans which is what we usually see in other countries. The magazines will usually be running several series at the same time. Satoru was basically trying to get a position making a chapter of that magazine, I’m not familiar enough with the industry to say if everyone is weekly or if some only show up in certain issues, to be a published mangaka.

I flippin loved Erased. It’s a fascinating concept that’s executed very well, with likeable characters, visuals and music. It’s a show where the journey is well worth it for its strong emotional moments

Yesss!!! This anime is so amazing. I've watched over a hundred different animes, but this one is very close to my heart. It's not often anymore that animes make a good well rounded story in 1 season. I hope you enjoy this show!

funny story about this when it aired. a coworker of mine kept on insisting I watch it as it aired, kept putting it off. Then once the final episode aired, I started at like 12 am thinking I'd only watch an episode or two. then just binged the entire thing, stayed up til like 5am, and had work at 6am lol this and Eden of the East as far as I remember are the only two anime that I just couldn't resist starting and finishing in 1 sit down.

Ooooo ye Eased has such a strong opening and is a great show imo, especially explaining all its concepts and laying out its mystery AND establishing its main players all so elegantly. All while being so engaging! Just 11/10 job truly. I hope you enjoy it! Watched it while it was airing, loved the "mmm watchya say" edits that happened at the time since the meme and this show coincided. Super excited to see this and all your other anime adventures! :D I'm sure your discussions will be amazing for this and many other shows I hope you'll try Dunno what you have and haven't watched, but getting a sense for your tastes from this I'll start coming up with a list of anime of varying lengths you may enjoy! Welp, death note was gonna be my recommendation. Otherwise, CyberPunk Edgerunners. 10 episodes, outstanding. Tokyo Ghoul is also pretty short but I don’t watch past season 2. Been told to finish it but idk. The current one I’m into is definitely a psychological thriller. It’s called Monster. One night at a hospital, two patients come in. One is boy who is shot in the head and his family was wiped out, the other is the mayor or something like that. The surgeon is told by the hospital director he must save the mayor instead of the boy, but he chooses the boy. It costs him any potential promotions and he loses some other personal stuff and the kid he saved grows up to be a mudderer. It’s pretty interesting.

Erased! One of the first anime I ever watched. Feels like it was centuries ago. Glad you enjoyed the first episode. Watched the live action years ago with my parents and they were on the edge of their seats, lol. I know you probably got your hands full with all of these reactions, but I think you'd really enjoy Vinland Saga too. It has a bit more of a serious tone than AoT but among the 300+ shows I've seen it's in my Top 2, HIGHLY recommend it.

Yo, Erased is great. As to your concerns, this IS a psych thriller through and through. Even in those small moments, almost every single detail is important, either giving small details relevant to the main story or giving characterization to the main characters. Everything sets up something else later on, and pretty much nothung is wasted.

6:29 That point about him never living in the moment because he’s always living backwards / going back in time is interesting. I didn’t pick up on that idea. I thought it was more like he lives “normally” until his spider sense goes off (like he’s not always trying to rescue people) but then the power interrupts. So he’s not ALWAYS on alert, he’s not ALWAYS looking, he only looks when the butterfly goes off - but it’s that he can never be calm. Because there’s always a chance. “When will the butterfly happen next” ya know? So as opposed to always trying to be a hero, it’s like if you have a loud blaring alarm go off every day but random times. You know it could happen at any time so why get too invested?
