@pattielynstarkey4530, ABSOLUTELY! How cold is a person who can’t permit his heart to be visibly sad when he is watching a loved one appear to suffer? I feel saddest for such a person. Jamie, your heart is often so open, and it is certainly loving. … While I knew I needed to let my Yorkshire Terrier, Max, move on to be fully Spirit, it was so difficult to release him, even harder because I needed to make the decision you did. But I praise our Veterinarian every day for the beautiful indigenous peoples’ ceremony, and for the peaceful, pain free transition he helped my beloved Maxie have. I am so sorry for your grief and suffering, Jamie. I have no doubt that Sherpa will welcome you to Spirit life when it is time. ❤

Beneath the sky where mountains gleam, Lived Sherpa, Jamie’s loyal dream. A Malamute with heart so wide, A faithful friend, a constant guide. Through snowy paths and summer days, With Sherpa’s love, the world ablaze. His gentle eyes, his warming touch, In Jamie's heart, he meant so much. Now stars embrace him in their glow, A silent tear, a heartfelt woe. But memories, they softly weave, A bond so strong, it cannot leave. Run free, dear Sherpa, in the light, Your spirit soars beyond our sight. In Jamie's heart, you’ll always stay, Forever loved, in every way.

I lost a service dog to a very horrific accident. I did not get to say goodby but came home to a broken friend that I had to burry her with her favorite pillow. Her collar still hangs by the garden shed. It has not even been a year and I must say I feel your pain. Real men cry and I cried as I watched your dog go on to the otherside. I pray I can see my Milk Dud again when I cross over to the otherside of life. As Pattie Lyn said, you maned up. That's real love to take the animal out of pain. Love that my man. I only had my Milk Dud for almost 5 years.

That’s what I had to do. My 15 year old boy stopped eating, was vomiting, had enough. He had cancer. I made the call, and we were all with him. Telling him how grateful we are that he chose us to love, and that we’d see him at the rainbow bridge. He passed at home, comforted. A few months later, a little boy was available for adoption. We had a loving home. Sherman would have wanted us to, so we did. I still miss Sherman, and I still cry, but I think he’s checking in with us, as I hear his nails on the floor sometimes. Crying now lol.

I worked for a vet, and putting a pet down was one of my most sad things I have ever helped with. Sometimes the owners didn't want to be there. They were just so overwhelmed with grief, they just couldn't stay. I understand. I would hold them, kiss them, tell them how much they were loved and you are right it only takes seconds and they drift off and over to the rainbow bridge. Then I would go home and cry myself to sleep. Sometimes the hardest things to do are the right things and your fur baby left feeling loved. Even now after all these years, just hearing your story, I'm crying right there with you. May you find comfort in your memories.

Thousands of people fell in love with Sherpa and we are all crying today 😭 It’s been heartbreaking watching his decline over the past several months. Rest in peace Sherpa. You will be greatly missed. I will have to go back and watch some of the old videos soon. I miss his howl so much.

Such a sad day. My german shepherd diva was always so jealous when I watched your videos and she would hear Sherpa greet people on your walks. I’ll miss your videos with Sherpa and be assured that your loyal viewers are there for you and many of us know the feeling to have loved a special dog and the hurt you feel when you have to let them go.

If you had allowed them to do all the operations on him, he would of spent the last weeks of his life in a real bad way and away from you often. One of mine had an aggressive form of cancer, we went ahead and did the removal operation in hopes to allow her to have a few good years still, ended up, she then spent a week, her head stuffed into that collar, stuck in a small area of the house instead of her full range access that she spent her life knowing only for the cancer to pop up along the suture site and throughout her belly in the form of many tumors and she was in more pain than she was originally. It was fully heart breaking to see her like that even though, she tried to respond and even wagged tail when snuggled, her eyes were just blank and sad with pain. I personally regret putting her through the surgery and the down time her last weeks of life should of just being with us wherever she wished to lay down and receiving lots of love instead of "in the corner with a cone on her head". Hardest decision to make, bless you.

I lost my 19-year-old dog some years ago, found him in Kosovo in a ravaged village, just a pup, Gunner spent his first few months with my Regiment, getting him to the UK was not easy. The most non-aggressive dog ever. When he could not get up, the vet told me to bring him in, that was not going to happen and had the vet come out, off he went on his favourite armchair. Still miss him. Was determined not to have another dog, until we found a middle-aged dog who had been dumped on the side of the A34.

PLEASE don’t stop posting. On January 4, 2022 my husband of 50 years died in his sleep. We live on a boat in Ketchikan, Alaska. We were having trouble with the electrical system so we moved to a hotel because it was so cold. I didn’t know what I was going to do. I decided to watch RU-vid to zone out. There y’all were. Huskies are my favorite so I clicked on it and fell in love with you both. I’ve never missed a day since.Your videos of y’all’s adventures got me through the worst. I found myself smiling. Let us, the ones who love you and Sherpa, help get you through this.❤️❤️❤️

This is the hardest thing you need to do for a pet but also the most painless for them and the most peaceful for both of you. It still doesn't make it any easier to make the decision when ,but they do tell you in their own little way when they are ready. We have been there before it doesn't help the overwhelming sadness, emptiness and loss of routine. Just try to smile and think of a special moment that made you smile and laugh when you come across one of his hair in your food ,etc and any nose art he has left on a window. Thank you for making our lives happier. 😢🐕‍🦺❤hugs to you.

I think those who have or have had that type of relationship with a dog (or other animal) these relationships transcend human connections Jamie. I don’t mean they are more or less but they are on a different plane. To cultivate a connection that doesn’t use words, writing or other human communication is something special. It’s a symbiotic connection, they need food and other necessities, we need protection and other practicalities. But beyond that we both need family, love, a listening ear etc. Dogs are complex social animals, they can form loving and caring relationships and that is one of the reasons humans connect so strongly with them. Rest assured he passed, in that nice warm twilight period just before you fall asleep, thinking, I am with my dad, I am loved.

Please take care of yourself, Jaime... please keep your health up... it's what Sherpa would want. Also, I know it's hard to think about right now, but none of us want you to be alone, and you were the most amazing dog, Dad... please consider in the future a companion for yourself, whether it be publicly or privately. Sherpa wouldn't want you to be alone. Any pet would be lucky & blessed to have you caring for him or her. It will help with healing & grief. Just please take care of your health, Sherpa will be watching over you and would want you to take care of yourself. Big hug. ❤🙏
