Exactly. Always been an annoyance. Especially since the transporter buffer stores patterns, even to reverse altered DNA etc - like they did with the other chief medical officer whose name I can't recall lol. Or in transporter stasis like Scotty was for 80 years. So many possibilities yet nope, wheel the guy to sick bay lol

@@Higgy_ZA to be fair energy in general and also possible failure of the system would still always be a concern so you probably wouldn't want to use it without reason. By that logic they wouldn't have any of the shuttles or anything either.

@@TessaBain And by your logic, using transporters would be very dangerous in general. If the show rants about transporters, they always highlight how safe they are in conditions with deasease and there have never been any problems

@@jamesk9321 I think Riker did also have a phaser on him when he was abducted in the episode. So Riker still followed Worf's "shoot first, ask questions later" idea

Not knowing what turned his blood to a polymer there's no guarantee that the plasma won't turn as well. The plasma contains the red blood cells that carry oxygen throughout the body. The red shirt suffering hypoxia. Theoretically if they can pump plasma in faster than it can change they may save his life long enough to reverse the process once they figured out what it it was that caused it.

There was an episode in Babylon 5, the spase station had a computer and after a reboot the artificial intelligence was restarted. Turns out, it had very high sarcastic programming. Which is why it was actually turned of in the first place.

"His blood is turning into a liquid polymer." - Very contemporary, hah. We're at stage 1. Also, at this point it would probably be justified for them to run a continuous location scan on the whole crew so that they know about further abductions right-away. They should also consider making the medication not a big dose beforehand (and would that work anyway or do the abductors wait until someone falls asleep?) but an injector apparatus, like the homing device. Or a combination. Always good to have a plan B and D. (No C because they might expect that move, haha.)
