I bought this kit a couple of times back then as a Youth, so here's some info if you're interested: - The fragrance oil back then wasn't totally clear. The bottle was nearly full and it was thinner and not dark orange lol, but I remember thinking the first time that it was annoying they wanted me to add a non clear thing to a clear thing. - what you ended up with is pretty close to what they looked like back then! A bit cloudy, but neat, and people certainly overreacted when I gave them as gifts. - My main annoyance back then was even though the top was covered with soap, that layer was so thin that once we used them at all the ball started peeking out and then it all sorta fell apart pretty quickly after that. What a crazy throwback for me lol. I think I bought that kit 3 times back then
seeing “20 year old soap kit” and then hearing “from the year 2000” THREW ME OFF despite the fact i was born in 2000 and so know, objectively, that it was 21 years ago. time is an illusion
@@qstionblomens6138 We are 20 year olds, so yeah we defnetly use the internet without supervision! 😂 Some of us even have jobs, drive cars or have kids 😂
I use to buy a lot of life of the party kits on Amazon. They used to have candle kits too but have long been discontinued. I do remember doing a sugar cubes and sugar scrub kit three years ago
One of the first Christmas gifts I bought “With my own money” as a teenager, was a snow globe soap for my mom from bath and body works. It was the early 2000’s, I was amazed by these!! I always thought it was a shell of soap with water in the middle. My mind was blown when you showed the capsule! I never knew how they did that.
Today I learned that ancient history smells of nothing... LOL Loved this video so much! Katie, your laugh is infectious and your videos make me smile/laugh every time. :)
As an archaeologist, I would like to confirm that when you dig down deep enough to get to the levels with old stuff in, even the soil smells of nothing.
id love to see you remake this with fresh melt-and-pour & some new little orbs, you might be able to find something like those on amazon or a craft store. I think I've seen people make frosting with melt and pour- so it'd be neat to see you do a fancy little base on it too. They'd be really cute gifts or decorations.
These videos are so fun to watch and definitely distract me from the terrifying realization that 20 years ago was somehow still the 2000's... I'm only 25 but sometimes it still feels like I'm in high school D:
@@AlexisTwoLastNames not related, but we are both named Alexis, and I have 2 last names in my RU-vidr name, lol 😁... (In real life, I'm just Alexander.)
Me, aged 21, born in the year 2000: "Man that kit must be from like the 80's or something!!" Katie: "From the year 2000, so its like 20 years old" Me: OH TIME HAS PASSED
What really cracks me up is how Katie thinks 2000 was a long time ago!!!! 😂 when I was 6 years old there weren’t microwaves to use for melt and pour soap projects!!! 🤣 A project kit from my childhood really WOULD be ancient history!!!! IN FACT - just last night I took a project storage bin to my sister from her college days when she did M&P soap - and THAT was probably 1995.
@@Queenofthatank I know I’m not older than the microwave - but I am indeed older than affordable- commercially available - microwaves. I was in high school (early 80s) when we got our first one.
@@solostrings4056 Yup! This I know. I remember the ads on tv in the 70s and they were $1,000 plus! I’m still a little shook when I see the in Target for $50! 😂
I'm a 2001 baby, and it's always so fun to see stuff from around the time I was little or that came before me. The 90's and early 2000's toy/gaming landscape was so fun, it's like they were just popping out the coolest stuff lol. Those years it was all about the gamecube, gameboy color, tamagotchi, nintendo 64, easy bake oven, and those hilarious infomercials for weird cooking gadgets you'd probably never use. Never used a soap kit but seeing that packaging gave me a huge wave of nostalgia, it literally looks as 90's/2000's as you can get haha (the font on the box really seals the deal). I'm also so surprised how well the melt n pour held up for so long, it's almost achieved MRE levels of long lasting xD
I feel so freaking old, 20 years ago was still in the 2000s my goodness. Where has time gone? I was a 90s kid and to me '20 years old' feels like at most 1995 or something. This is so amazing, I've never seen any sort of snow-globe soap, had no idea that was a thing, and these are so cool! They look pretty darn good especially for being so old.
I was taking a breathing treatment when Katie informed us that "Santa's little ball is like super fuzzy"! I started to laugh and coughed so hard that the mouthpiece flew out of my mouth and across the bed. 🤣
This kit is like something I would find in my grandma's craft room on the top shelf. And then I would be hugely tempted to open it. So thank you for making 20-year-old soap to see what happens lol
Lol, Katie comparing 2000 to the times of the ancient pyramids! LMAO, when she said the kit was 20 years old I imagined older than 2000. That seals the deal I am officially old!
I’m so glad that Katie uses lab created mica instead of “ethically sourced” mica because those companies think that they’re telling the truth but the slave mined products get mixed in
I'm gonna have to agree with lady insect on this one if you buy anything made in China or other foreign areas (and it's almost impossible to avoid these days 99% of mass produced products are made overseas) they use sweat shops where they pay their employees PENNIES if that and use underage children as workers too
@@jaynedavis3388 that is true. I just think instead of encouraging people to do what’s right, often people will shame others for doing “what is wrong” even though our society or nature pretty much requires us to have many “wrong things” if we want to fit in with our peers or survive. And we should not shame individuals for what companies produce that we may or may not know the background on. Greenwashing is wrong, and so is blaming the little people for the worlds biggest problems.
The ancient peppermint oil scent is likely making you think of elementary school because of craft paste sold by Elmer’s lol. And goodness do I feel ancient myself. I was born in 84, and I was 16 when this kit was made lol.
@@Goell-Ravenwish-DnD-Elf-Druid Bicentennial baby! And a whovian! My husband and I had a Doctor Who themed wedding. My custom converse were TARDIS blue, and the heel stripe said “GERONIMO.” Because Matt Smith. Gotta love a mad man in a blue box. 💖💙🎀
This was so fun and nostalgic for me. We used to make melt and pour soap bars all the time as a little kid and I LOVED it. We had a smaller mold for what I now know are inbeds. Little hearts, stars, and other geometric shapes. A few years ago I came home from college and my mom had found all the old melt and pour and colorings and I got to make soap one last time and it was wonderful. This makes me want to take up those kinds of crafts again and makes me excited to do similar things with my future children.
Tell me why I read “20 year old soap kit” and assumed it was from the ‘80’s and was amazed they had melt and pour kits back in the ‘80’s… because 2000 definitely wasn’t 20 years ago
Oh, man! This brings me back. I used to have so many Life of the Party soap and candle kits back in the day. 😂 I had one from them that had snowflake cookie cutters and you cut them out and stack them into a Christmas Tree shape. I'm pretty sure that was a candle one, though. It was my FAVORITE! 😄 But their fragrance oils were actually pretty good, ngl. Thanks for sharing! This was fun to watch. 😊
@@RiotWild That's probably a lot easier than the snowflakes! 😂 They had these teeny tiny cutters to cut the inside voids of the snowflake. You had to do that six or eight times for each one. For the bottom layers, I didn't even bother anymore. LOL
Soap kit: from 2000 (aka when I was in HS) Katie: I feel like I’m opening ancient history MAAM US ELDER MILLENNIALS HAVE FEELINGS TOO YOU KNOW!! And that hurt. 😅😅😅
I don't know if you read these comments, but just wanted to say that your channel brings my family so much joy. You inspire us to be creative, and we look forward to each new video. Thank you and God bless.
I honestly loved the blue ones better because now it feels like a “reveal” when you use the soap enough to see the snow globe within. I’m glad you had a good time with this kit. Happy holidays!!
I actually had this kit. The moulds were often dinged up and it took forever to get the soap out of the mould. These were best sellers at the craftshows I did. I made tons of soap with toys back then. This was such a blast from the past.
She says, “very, very old” and I’m thinking, “dang, how old is it?” She says, “over 20 years old” and I’m thinking, “that’s not old.” THEN she says, “copyright 2000” and I’m thinking, “what, exactly, is her definition of OLD?!
Well, when you look at how far technology has come in the last 20-30 years, especially in the last 20, products like this would very much be considered "old".
I LOVE that you asked your fans what kind of videos they wanted to see and you’ve DELIVERED on it!! Amazing. You’re a wonderful content creator and thank you for working so hard to give us such quality videos!
It's kinda weird to think of the year 2000 being so long ago. I guess my age is showing. What a cool kit! I wonder if the company still makes it today?
Absolutely loved these Katie! I have a soft - or rather, jiggly - spot for snow globes and these were fantastically fun! Am loving these videos of you trying new things! 🎄☃️💝🥰
I feel old 😭😭😭😭 I was 10 when that kit came out and snow globe soaps were all the rage. I had one that was fully made of soap. The globe was clear solid soap, the liquid inside was liquid soap, and even the little snowman was soap I think? I kept it for years untill it suddenly started melting and I had to use it lol
i would really enjoy seeing you recreate this somehow! like, make your own snow globes! since you love snow globes and soap, could be a fun thing to create for your home for christmas!
Have you ever thought of getting into making your own soap kit's like this? I've seen slime makers start out selling and making all their products, and now they have slime kit's that are sold in Walmart's, and Targets, ect. I think that would be so amazing 😍
Katie, I did candy making in the late 1980's and had peppermint oil to use in chocolate. I used about 5 drops year at Christmas. It eventually turned dark like yours was. Also, I remember the shrink wraps being loose like that in the stores when new. Glad you had fun.
Honestly, I would love if you made your own version of this soap with toys that are actually full of water, glycerin soap that isn’t as yellow/cloudy, and a high quality fragrance oil.
That was SO fun and cute! I love snow globes... I also wonder if that company still produces kits? If they do, it would be fun to see how their products developed for today's market. 😁👍
that is so cute and i love the idea with the whole snowglobe ball just as an embed. i hope that a newer version of this exists! because it would be so cool to have this with fresh clear melt n pour etc.
Wow, nostalgia! Brought my snowman snow globe ball out for another year of Christmas decor. I refused to let my mom toss it out in the 2000's lol. This was so fun to watch! I remember using this soap and being so excited to wash my hands.
Katie I wanted to let you know you inspired me to try and create some melt and pour soap to give away as presents this year! I even went to mad mica and got some eco glitter and some pretty mica to add to my soaps, they turned out pretty awesome
I LOVE to see you so excited about this kit. It was, indeed, super cool. I’d definitely get one if I could buy a time machine and travel back to the year 2000.
Well thank you Katie now that I know I'm old enough to be your MOTHER I dont feel old at all...... lol If your personality was the same when you was a kid to how you are now Katie you had to be such a joy to your mom and dad.
Please tell me I am not the only one that went..."cool an eighties kit" when seeing the "20 year old" in the title...and was shocked and sad when realizing that 2000 was more than 20 years ago.
I love your bubbliness and personality! I wish I could hug you. Also thank you for having such amazing products! Your shampoo and conditioner bars have given me back pain free showers!
