Can a Rocket League Bot be programmed to freestyle? That is the question I've had for a long time. I've seen custom bots that can dribble and even aerial, but what is stopping Rocket League AI from learning to flip reset, air dribble, or even Musty Flick? Turns out, the only thing holding Rocket League bots back is that no one had TRIED to teach them to freestyle...until now. This is Stallion, the freestyling Rocket League BOT. In this video Stallion takes on a Rocket League pro in the classic freestyle battle known as HORSE. Can SSG pro player ‪@Retals‬ keep up with advanced Rocket League artificial intelligence, or will a bot actually beat a pro in Rocket League?

The story behind that one (because it obviously was different than just copying Retals). I had the bar down shot saved as one I was going to use later that Retals would then have to repeat. The shot was going to be "you have to score a bar down goal". Then Retals pulled out the slow shot and I decide that instead it was a perfect chance to use the bar down in response. Very lucky turn of events that I just happened to be ready for. That bar down shot took me like 30 tries to train the bot to do and I only added it a day before the recording.

After the first couple of shots I was like "No way this is possible". Then after it copied Retals movements exactly on the 360 dribble it suddenly clicked as to how it's done. Very clever. Good job guys.

@@Foodbarrel my guess, the bot copies exact movements/inputs. Probably they 'taught' the bot by feeding him with replays or demonstrations of professional freestylers doing different shots. Not sure though

Ok I’m not at the end yet so he hasn’t solved it yet but I’m guessing Stallion is only doing prerecorded movement and that’s why he can do pretty much any mechanic but the ball has to be in the middle for it to work and that’s why he could do the one where he had to drive at the side Edit: Also he can mirror movement that’s what I’m currently seeing

I think it’s more complex than pre recorded and mirror movement of opponent bc all cars are a little different size hitbox etc. I think there is a bunch of logic involved with how it labels shot types so it’s recording the other players shot types and then it has its own pre recorded version of this shot types and is able to Link them in multiple ways. It probably took a good programmer and a few good free stylers a couple of weeks to put it all together. It’s pretty insane.

I think i know how this works, the ball always starts mid, and its programmed to replicate a shot that a real freestyle has already down it the exact same speed with the same start point and position. Notice how it adjusts before the shot?

I’m counting this as a win for Retals in my books as well. I don’t think you could have picked a better player to go against Stallion because although Retals isn’t the most mechanical pro he makes up for it by being one of the smartest, which is the perfect counter to Stallions crazy mechanics. With that said I would love to see you make this into a series and put the bot up against other pros and freestylers, it would be very interesting to see the different tactics and strategies they would use.

yeah im assuming the freestylers mentioned at the end provided the exact movement and positioning needed to do the freestyles, then you just tell the bot which shot to do and it does it

I really hope this is sarcasm. All-Star Bots are trash. You have no idea of the skill gap between you and a pro player. Pros can 1v7 plats and still win. Freestyling takes an insane amount of car control and reading the ball.

You have the best content from all the RU-vidrs, but because it's not "competitive" most viewers are not the hyped younger kids I feel like... You deserver wayyyy more subs and views

I would almost bet that this bot is just a bunch of recorded shots. A lot of those shots looked like osm's mechanics. Just add the ability to record your opponents shot and repeat it and voila... a "freestyle bot". From a ML stand point, you could train a bot to a point where it could freestyle, but you would have to either already have a functioning RL AI or go through the process of setting one up first. It would take a little time, for sure. I remember reading somewhere about the current AI in RL and how they had to work to find a prime medium skill level because technically they could train a bot to be nigh unstoppable. Anyway great video and neat idea. Kudos to Retals for the out of the box critical thinking skills.
