My husband got me a Kirby vacuum in 1997. After my son had burned up another cheap one while vacuuming his room he had not checked for anything that would get stuck in the vacuum. At the time we had 3 cats, 1 dog and 3 people with very long hair living in the house. Here it is 2022 the Kiby is still going strong. I periodically have to take the beater bar off to get the long hair off that wraps around it off, but it's worth it. It is a very expensive vacuum but well worth the expense. I did supervise my son when he would use it. When he burned up the old one he was 18 years old . He moved out a few years later.

We all know that how we look while we're sewing is less than perfect. (Sweatpants included!) So the addition of weird and geeky appliances is just more of the same. Well worth it for the best outcome. Loving your work, as always. You're a lovely person.

In swedish the days between christmas and newyears are called "mellandagarna" which translates into "the inbetween days" I usually spend them hanging out with family and possibly starting on using some of my gifts if I got something like a book or craftsupplies, but mainly thats still familytime. Tho I grew up with divorced parents so Id spend christmas with one side and newyears with another so the inbetween days always involved atleast some amount of traveling for me too.
@ragnkja
@ragnkja 2 года назад
The date of the first day of the year was far from consistent throughout Europe in the medieval period, and 25th December and 6th January were among the more common choices for the first day. This made the intervening days a sort of liminal time between the old year and the new. Eventually the Catholic Church declared that the last day of the year should be the 31st December, which had the benefit of being both a feast day (the feast of St Sylvester) _and_ the last day of its month. Not all of Europe began the new year around this time, though: in England, for example, the first day of the year was 25th March until 1752.

Before Queen Victoria introduced the craze for white wedding dresses, wedding dresses tended to be simply the nicest dress the bride could afford, and a deep, “rich” black was not at all inappropriate. Since the wedding dress would be reused for other occasions after the wedding, it was likely to be a darker, more saturated colour appropriate for a married woman, rather than the pastels that were considered more appropriate for unmarried girls.

I've decided that 2022 is the year I Use The Nice Yarn. I am making and FINISHING projects and not waiting for the perfect project to use my good yarn. In black it would totally work with my overall aesthetic :) New year's plans to go to a cottage were busted, but I had a lovely time with some friends. I totally agree with you about towels! I was brought up to be very frugal, but the difference between new fluffy towels and ten-years-plus towels (no matter how ‘clean’ they are!) is like night and day! A quick semi-fix for limed-up towels is to tip a bottle of white vinegar in the wash with them occasionally, but it’s only a semi-fix and doesn’t last long. Give me the new fluffy one every time!

This dress is coming along nicely. Since you are making the new petticoat and stays from the purple, maybe a purple sash to echo that? I went to see a winter light display with my boyfriend on New Year's Eve before coming home to relax by our fireplace. My new year plans include finishing a couple of works in progress including a wool medieval dress and knit shawl as well as figuring out how to warp my tabletop loom. Knitting needles the size of toothpicks with yarn as thin as a piece of string. I need that magnifying gadget you have. The dress is done! Here I am on February 1st, catching up! I love watching these speed runs 🥰 So what do I do at Christmas? I watch National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. Alone. My husband HATES it. He will leave the room if I put it on. So I wait till I'm alone and then watch it twice, because the audio commentary is also very funny. I am Christian, so Christmas absolutely includes religion, but not very much tbh. I love the Christmas Eve and Christmas morning church services at the church I grew up in, but I live too far away to combine attending with the other things I want to do. And for some reason I never started attending services where I live now. Secular Christmas is having family and friends over, eating great food, watching sappy movies, listening to old Christmas songs. Christmas Eve is spent with my husbands siblings, we cook vegetarian food and get to try things we'd never make or eat otherwise. I actually made furkey this year. It was so much work, it was super expensive and took about 40 ingredients but it tasted amazing. There's still some in the freezer... We spend Boxing day at my moms house usually (it's an official holiday here in the Netherlands), but actual Christmas is different every year. One year we had all my siblings here, we have spent it with my father in law and with just the two of us. Just whatever works out for everyones schedule and preferences that year. The week between Christmas and New Year we usually spend with friends, going to the UK for a few days. Not an option for the last two years, so we just got together and did fun stuff together (we played a game called "So Clover, it is a fantastic game to play with a group of people you know well. Totally recommend). We don't really have a name for just this period, but everything from December 5th (Sinterklaas, the feast of st. Nicholas) up to and including January 1st is called "de feestdagen", which just means the party days. Which sounds a lot more extravagant than most of those days are 😉 Rando other things: - I have recently started crochet and made my mom and her best friend potholders for Christmas, and have today finished a summer shawl for myself and am pretty proud of it, errors and all - I just got a message that a theater show I got tickets for I think at the start op 2020 will proceed on February 19th as planned but not with us. With the restrictions here they could only fill 1/3 of the seats, so we lost out in the lottery. We do now have tickets for this persons next show... in April 2023. So yeah. - I started listening to the podcast Musicalsplaining and it is a lot of fun. It's two friends, one loves musicals and one does not, and they see shows together and then talk about them. Very recognisable on both ends! - Happy belated birthday to you Noelle!

Bath sheets are a game changer, for sure! Being able to wrap my butt length hair up without the wet ends sticking out 6 or more inches after being able to actually wrap it around my whole self was a wonder. Honestly, before I knew bath sheets were a thing, I used a beach towel as my bath towel. 😁 For New Year's we went to the beach with our good friend's family for the weekend. Did a lot of hot tubbing, board gaming, and just chilling. On NYE, we introduced the group to Mansions of Madness and they won the game right before midnight! As for what I'm listening to/watching, we finished the last book in The Expanse by James SA Corey on that trip (which ended extremely well!). We are miraculously keeping caught up on campaign 3 of Critical Role, and just finished Brooklyn 99.

Absolutely loving the progress. You’re making want to start dressmaking again. My New Year plans were unfortunately cancelled due to friends being ill. However I had a productive evening bringing in the New Year learning a new skill. I made my first macramé planter. Hope you and yours have a happy and healthy New Year!

It’s amazing how much faster hand sewing goes when you’re not trying to be pretty. I’ve all but got the sheet sewn to the foam and the ties shouldn’t be too bad after that. I don’t make New Years resolutions. I’ve actually decided that I will make smaller monthly goals throughout the year. So far I’m doing well. Im working on the classes (I’m going to be a dog trainer!) like I wanted. I’m working on my sewing little by little. Trying to do more instead of just wistfully thinking about it lol. I have so many projects going right now, but I’m weirdly happy about it? Apparently I needed to stop being afraid of being overwhelmed and just dive in. Who knew? 😂 thank you for sharing

Hello! Happy New Year and Happy Birthday! I had Christmas with my Mum and Stepfather. The less said about that, the better 😒 But New Year was a blast 😆 Had the peeps from my Medieval household over to our house. Much frivolity ensued. The best bit though, was coming down on New Year's morning and having to step over sleeping bodies on every floor of the place and waking every one up with tea and bacon sarnies. 😁 Yule deccies are now down and it's time to start on the huge list of sewing projects - most of them for other people - because despite telling me they don't need any more kit in house colours, the two new members of the group have decided they need a livery jack each. And not to be outdone, hubby has decided he wants a new surcoat. I am hoping that in the middle of all this, I will be allowed to finish my Posh Totty frock that I have been working on for the past three years! First show is Easter and I know that time is just going to FLY 😆

Thank you! It's like you try out the nerdy tools so we don't have to wiblle over whether we need them or not! I avoid New Year celebrations by going to bed early. But I sewed either side of it, so that was nice. And I had the cuddle company of my cats (who needed reassuring because of the New Year fireworks)

I discovered Otz lights about 15 years ago. Working with dark fabric or yarn they make it VISIBLE! Amazing. I tried those kinds of glasses with lights once. I felt like I was going to fall off the tower! So dizzy so confused, not on a tower! Shut up mind! Never going to do that again! My friend had a pair that she used to carve people who lived in walnut shells. She laughed her head off while I was panicking, we had a really good laugh after I recovered. If I do need to see I have a magnifying glass on a stand with arms with clips to hold stuff in place if I need it. For now that will do. We had a very quite xmas and new year. It was very very cold (windchill of -35 to -40c) and covid so everything was cancelled.

I wish I had a friend who could cut my hair. I always end up cutting it myself, and well, it probably looks like it. I love the way this dress is looking. I think it's going to be super versatile. You can style it modern or historical. You could even make it looks 70s or 80s if you wanted. Makes me want to make a deep red version of this pattern, though perhaps with wrist-length sleeves (I'm always cold and I know bare forearms would make me freeze).

I am enjoying watching this come together. It's super cute, even if it requires special eye wear to make ^^ I wrote down to look into Red Notice since it sounds good. I watched Sydney's fireworks with a friend who lives in Perth, Western Australia. It was nice. I plan on making myself an empire waisted maxi dress with a ruffle at the bottom out of some beautiful firefly fabric with a black background....the fabric is sitting on my sewing table, mocking me while I hem and haw about a pattern for the top. The rest is easy... :) I will strive to share progress on it for your next vlog (as a way of giving myself some motivation and something to share in this meta relationship). I am currently reading the 9th book of the Crochet Mysteries by Betty Hechtman, Knot Guilty....I like crafty cozy mysteries.
