I was shipped one a few weeks back, and am testing it now. These presence sensors are like magic, love the control it gives me over a basic motion sensor! The setup process for the Lite was extremely straightforward. Only real improvement I could think of is if you had an injection molded case, could make the fit and finish just a tiny bit nicer!
Yeah, one of the 3D printed cases on the 3 I bought was not great. Getting the plastic nut to tighten on that one was rough. But once set up you can't tell the difference, so I guess it's fine enough. Awesome sensors though.
I picked up some EP lites in the first batch. Love the zone support options and I'm experimenting using them in an unusual way, by rotating 90 degrees to act as a Z coordinate rather than X which means i can ignore low level readings and avoid my cats triggering automations/lights
Your story with the EP1 is one of my favorites to tell. I bought 5 of them for my house and 3 of them for my mom's. I just love everything about it and where it came from. Thanks for making so much awesome stuff!
Big thanks Lewis & ESH order handling team! Just received my EP Lite 2 days after ordering! I see I was one of the lucky ones this time. Another great experience through setup steps, and the unit is running happily in HA fixing a big gap in my previous presence sensing already. ❤
It’d be nice to have a deep dive of your journey of your become a product manufacturer journey. Everything from making the first one (probably by yourself) to now having a team working on newer products and what that takes from software, hardware, vendors, etc
Would be great to be able to get a version without the sensor included, for those of us who immediately plan to use a different sensor. For me the heart rate and respiratory sensor seems exceptionally cool to put in my toddlers nursery.
Really, already sold out? This video was just published. I've been waiting for this sensor for months. Btw I love the everything presence one sensor. It is by far the most powerful and reliable sensor that I've purchased. Super bummed that the lite is already sold out. Also big fan of your channel, thank you!
Just received mine and I'm excited to try it out! I would have preferred the presence one, but since it's sold out, I'm happy I managed to get my hands on the Lite one.
Looked at this yesterday and was waiting on the "is available". So the second i noticed this video was up i went straight to your shop and now have 7 sensors on the way! Can't wait!
@@EverythingSmartHomeI'm pretty sure I'm going to, if they work as planned for every room. I also have an idea to use one as a doorbell, as where I'm living there is none, the door is effing 90% frosted glass except the frame, and there is no outside power available. So I'm going to print an angled adapter and mount it at the very top of the door on the inside and then limit the range to detect about a meter in front of the door, This way i will know if someone is there and it can also tell me if it's 1, 2 or 3(+) people. So i know if i should open or not. So i really hope it can detect through double pane thermal glass xD
Oh no, it's sold out again already. 😭 I shouldn't have gone back to check for the ESP board... Well, then I'll wait for the next wave. Thanks for the video and keep making stuff! ❤
@@EverythingSmartHome you should always comment on your own videos, asking something like “what are your opinions” or something, along with linking the product/your website again, and pinning your own comment. Should help with engagement a lot.
I’ve signed up for notification when they’re back in stock. These look fantastic! Hopefully I can snag a couple of the next batch. Keep up the great work, and get your people working overtime building more! 😂
@GamingTrivia1113 I think maybe you answered your own question. The market is starving for this device so it's going to be hard for someone without deeeeeep pockets to outpace demand for awhile.
@@GamingTrivia1113 Because radar presence detecting is really good, and there was nothing like it before. So either you get this, or you solder your own. (I did as it was less then 10 bucks with mediocre radar units).
Barely 12 hours later and everything is sold out... So much about "a good amount of stock" 😁. People seem to more than just like it (myself included). Fantastic product... hope to see it back in stock soon.
Thank you for explaining the difference between the EP1 and EPL! Would love to also see a video explaining what happens when you "adopt" it. This is my first non-diy esphome device and don't understand the difference between adopting and not adopting. For example, I didn't see any notification that the firmware had an update and I adopted mine. Was this because I adopted it?
Brilliant work Lewis, inspired my own project 😉 The Pro looks epic, when I eventually roll out more POE in my home I’ll be investing in a couple (unless I’ve figured out how to build PCBs by then 😜)
Hi, ordered five last night : ) finally the other half will stop moaning with lights switching off when shes in the room because of using PIR. Looking forward to getting my hands of these. Keep up the good work.
Great work on the sensor. I was just about to return the FP2 I bought so I could support you instead, but you're sold out! Hope they come back in stock soon.
I've had a pair of EPLs since the end of October, as well as an EP1. I really need to get my HA system squared away and get that template I bought from Smart Home Junkie configured.
Awesome stuff, Lewis! Thanks for all that you do for the community! I'm holding out for the Pro version because I *really* want that PoE (and the long range). I mentioned it on the announcement post at the time, but a ceiling mount case for it woukd be awesome if you can make it an option 😎
My EPL is on its way: arriving today. It shipped really fast. One downside to mention. When you live in the EU, a €15,75 customs clearance fee is added. Add that to the €12,95 shipping cost, and the product nearly doubles in price. Still worth it though. Brexit is killing UK sales.
Received it. Unpacked it. Started the installation by scanning the QR-code in the box. I had some issues, caused by the "real men don't need installation manuals" effect. The installation manual is great and if you just follow the clear and verbose instructions, the installation and configuration go smoothly. The EPL worked immediately and was visible in HA. Now I'm actually playing with it like a kid with a new toy. A job well done, guys! 🤓
I would like to see the Everything Presence Lite go up head to head with the Apollo MSR-1. These two seem to be the best affordable mmWave sensors thats run ESPhome.
Would love to see a video of you making a home alarm system using these combined with other sensors and in house displays. Also hoping the pro is POE and has expansion options to allow addition of ESP CO2/PM2.5 sensors.
My experience with LD2450: good for indoors, false positives inside a rain proof (fairly thin) case placed outside, no matter what I tried. Longer range than LD2410 (up to 7 meters), needs to be secured in place if you plan to invest time in zones setup. General experience with hilink radars: cheap, they do their job but are a bit slow and heat up, making temperature and especially humidity sensor calibration a challenge. Again, cheap so I'm not complaining too much.
@@EverythingSmartHome unfortunately, no scribble in te box 😛 but they have arrived and are set up. Thanks for the great product. Only one question: those sensors should ‘see’ you, even if you are sitting still? Mine stops detecting me. Is there a sensitivity setting of some kind?
Is it possible to DIY it ourselves? I mean, I have a 3d printer, I can order the PCB and source the components.. so I don't have to wait for them to be on stock 😅
Ordered one an hr ago right after I got the email notification. Didn't want to miss out on it this time like the last time. Fingers crossed that the marked one comes to me😊 But gotta say, shipping price is around 30% the product price. There's some work that needs to be done there Lewis.
@@EverythingSmartHomeI run a small family owned fulfillment company that has 2 locations in the US. Can accept api orders and ship/mail with all major carriers. Would be happy to chat about setting up a stock in the us for you to ship from to help lower those costs.
I just ordered my EP Lite. I can't wait to get it start playing with it. I have high hopes that mmWave will be much more reliable than the presence tracking in my Ecobee gen 2 motion/temp sensors. I hope I get the marked box! :)
Great information. May be you can a video where you can utilise old phones as smart display per room. Ie kitchen , living room can just have a old smart phone attached to a wall and only shows devices in that particular room. Now a day can buy cheap second hand phone and tablets. Also lots of people have old phones which are good enough as display.
How does this connect with the PC running Home Assistant? Looks like it might be Bluetooth, as it mentions being a BT hub. But it's unclear whether it also uses BT to connect to the PC, or Wifi, or maybe even Zigbee. Update: Reading the manual, it connects via Wifi. Just a suggestion, but might want to add that to the main product page!
Mine has just arrived. Well done on the new design. I want to ignore a ceiling fan. I currently have a Sonoff sensor and the ceiling fan will keep presence as true when the fan is on. Can I tell the EPL to ignore the fan?
Looks like the perfect unit for me. I have multiple rooms that it could cover and with zones, especially, without needing some app to some Chinese device that sends everything I do to China sounds fantastic, even if Home Assistant is a bit more fiddly to set up zones in.
Sure, most are i2c so just requires 2 pins, both the EP1 and Lite have 4 spare pins. You would need to create your own ESPHome config for this and would depend on the sensor you selected
The LD2450 DOES support zones on the chip itself. Using the latest firmware you can configure up to 3 rectangular zones. Furthermore, my external esphome component allows for configuraiton of non-rectangular zones. You could define as many convex polgons zone as you'd like. The open PR in the ESPHome repo supports configuring the on-sensor zones afaik.
Thanks! I'm not sure if there was some confusion there, I said it supported zones in the video and that's why we were using it 😅 Will take a look at the PR, thanks for the tip!
These look awesome! I'd LOVE to get my hands on a few. I do have one question though. For rooms like a hallway, where you want motion control over lights, but don't always have a location for a sensor with an outlet nearby... do you have any good ideas/creative solutions for this scenario? All of my current sensors are battery powered which works best so far. Would it work to use POE to USB C adapter to power these?
