The map feels like Mirage inverted

Please actually make this a series, each episode could just be like 10 minutes of you fixing textures, or tweaking it a little but I think alot of people would really enjoy it :)

As someone who's been mapping since the age of like 11 for fun, I was heavily interested in this video. This map was insanely good. So balanced and all the smallest details mean so much to the map. You did a really good job WarOwl. You aced this! Wish I could play it and work on the detail of the map, possibly make a theme to it!

The boxes are doing the weird thing because their .vmt properties specify “VertexLitGeneric” instead of “LightmappedGeneric” at the top. For some reason if VertexLitGeneric textures are applied to brushes they will place their lighting origin at the current player position. It’s weird as heck but Source is old and dumb. This is also a cool map and I think a competition for decorating would be a neat idea.

You might have made all of the boxes one func_detail entity, in which case you would have to seperate each one and tie them to func_details individually

dude,this map is like when mirage+cache+inferno having a threeso- i mean babies. (connector is almost like highway imo. apps on A site,mid has cache's window) but hey,im not complaining,its a really good map.

I really think that looks like a great map. It might actually go somewhere if you wanted to put in the effort, or team up with someone.

Tip for optimization: Set all brushes in the map to "tool_nodraw" and then set each visible brush face to the desired texture. This will increase the map's framerates.

simple and informative, a new concept of video that i personally havent seen, and entertaining. I cant begin to imagine someone making a map not only competitively viable, but also highly detailed like the landscaping and location of said map.

Just a tip if you want to rework a bit of your map, to make it more clear for new people, make the floor of different passages different colors, for example: A Long = Red, A Short = Green. By that way you get easier callouts and people will recognize the map quicker.

it would be cool if it was skinned to look like a cyper punk city, lots on neon lights and some rain puddles for the light to reflect off of. sort of like the map is some allys in the city

With a little bit of editing and texturing the actual map that could be sick, really nice layout

Drawing your first sketch over the radar grid in photoshop was a very good idea, sketching your layouts is something many people do but using the grid lets you get a better picture of how your map is gonna look like when finished, I might actually start doing that

This was super cool!! I can't wait to try it. I don't think mid is too much like mirage. It's hard to imagine how you could change it, it just makes sense with the rest of the map. If anything you could take out the window, make it open, and add a staircase in the front of it. But honestly it looks amazing and I can't wait for it to get optimized. I hope someone adds texture to it. I can see you making competitive maps in the near future. You're one of the most well-known and valued CS:GO players, you've talked a lot about map design in prior videos, so your expertise really shows here. Great work! I'm excited!

The textures are glitching cause of the "Ice" dev texture which has weird shader properties. Change it to a different standard dev texture and they'll work fine. There's also a ladder dev texture in the game you can use for that ladder.

This is actually phase one when creating new maps. Typically there will be an idea in the back of your mind that will influence certain design choices. But for serious map designers, the first part is layout. The layout designers may not even be the ones to texture and theme the map on larger teams.

I love the orange box aesthetic tbh. So many tf2 maps were just too much effort for the mappers, now I love the look. Your map looks pretty slick and fun, the amount of nooks and corners makes me feel like it would be very paranoid when it's 1v1. I'd have to try it though.

"... and someday, it might lead to a career". That is true. I've been mapping for about 2-3 years now and I've become really passionate about it. I've had trouble with finding something that I'm good at and something that I really like, but Valve's easy access to programs like hammer and the access to use their engine to make anything has made me want to persue game development/game design. But the most important thing is that mapping is fun. From creating your first dev texture func_detail to playtesting it with friends, it's always fun and relaxing.

What in my opinion these visually bare-bone maps do really great is that they just focus on the gameplay aspect. There's no over the top details, no fancy looking parts of the map, no, it removes the aspect of you were looking at something, it was very distracting and you got shot, it sort of makes the peekers advantage minimal to non-existent. They can't hide their head in very detailed environments resulting them in winning because you can't see well that 1/3rd of their head that's poking out. The orange map color reminds me of Fy_snow_orange and how you can actually see their head because it doesn't melt into the environment.

Better than vertigo. lets get the pros to play this map :D

Not gonna lie that map looks very good. It reminds me of 1.6, way simplier than the csgo maps. I honestly like the colours and stuff, no bling bling around the map and stupid angles which doesn't fit in cs.

As far as the flickering textures are concerned, almost all lighting problems are caused from having a leak in your map. Double check that no spots on your map are exposed to the outside void. The easiest way to find leaks is to load your pointfile (map -> load pointfile) and follow the red line it creates to the source of the leak. Hammer can only handle one pointfile at a time, so once you fix the leak, you'll need to recompile for it to give you another pointfile (assuming multiple leaks)

This is actually a good way to create a map. What you started with is called a node map

use cobblestone textures and make it Cobble II

I feel like this map would be like an Egyptian ruins where a lot of the crates/boxes would be, well crates, shipping crates where archeologists would be shipping things back. And so on. I need to download it to say how I feel like it would play, but looks like a genuine map! Cheers x

The map layout actually looks like an interesting layout. And the idea of having middle be so intricately connected with both sides is something you dont really have on many maps. Like the fact you can see into b site and into the a site pushing ramp? The only thing that immediately comes to mind would be highway on cache. But yeah it looks a lot like mirage. With some tweaks to the layout and a very distinct design on the aestitics this map actually looks really interesting

This gives me some Aztec style ruins vibes. like some Inka mountain temple theme would fit sooo much :). Please go on with it. This could become a new series.
