I Made a Pinafore from a $1 Bedsheet and It's Okay-ish

hehe I very much feel this week is Katie makes Chaos. You did good for something you haven't made before and also giving yourself the added pressure of 3 1/2 hrs. Side darts might help bring the top in a little closer, if you don't want visible darts in the dress though, pinch them out of the pattern, smooth the top line and then cut that shape out of the fabric. Its also a great colour on you! oh and Happy Anniversary!

Good effort! I know myself and I know I would not get much wear out of sweetheart neckline. So I would revert to a skirt (that looked awesome on you), or if I had enough material, use a simple tank top pattern for the top. The color is so pretty, a simple cut would complement it best.

For a first attempt this looks amazing! Don't be so hard on yourself! You are right, "every project teaches you something new." I'm not good with numbers or math or SHAPES either so seeing someone else have trouble with a bodice is really comforting??? YOU BEAT THE BODICE!!

I found your channel few weeks back , and must admit I did a binge watch of your videos, I find your sense of humour and... "shrug what ever sewing ".... awesome. at 63 I'm going to start .... lets make my own clothes, haven't actually made any thing yet but the ideas you have given me have my mind a boost, keep smiling sweets ill let u know if I actually make some thing :) I'm bit of a slow starter lol

I'm considering making a similar dress and can't wrap my head around how to do the top either. A fear of sewing in a zipper isn't helping my construction woes.

New subscriber here and I’m binging all your videos. So I totally took a chunk out of one of my fingers in the early months of the initial pandemic shutdown here in the US. I was trying a new mask pattern that I had seen on YT. I remembered that I had a spare pillowcase in a closet and got a bug up my butt to try it fairly late at night. I had taken an Ambien for my sleep disorder and it makes me lose some of my inhibitions, and do things that I know I should not do (this is why I no longer order from Amazon once I’ve taken my pills at night). I made a poor decision and decided to ‘spice things up,’ and cut towards my hand with my rotary cutter. Well, long story short, I was in an urgent care a day later because the cut wouldn’t even glue closed anymore. Yup, got some looks from the staff, cause I lost the fleshy tip of my finger and got my first-ever stitches! Made it into my 40s before needing that, so I still consider it a win… No preaching or finger-wagging here, it’s just that part of the video, obvious sarcasm noted, made me blush and cover my face and feel very seen. ❤️

Ahhh I've been obsessed with this dress!! I love your take on it, I find sweetheart necklines to be so lovely. If you want a bodice that's closer to the original inspo, fabrics-store has an apron dress pattern that is very similarly shaped, and it's free! They also have pretty good sales on their linen from time to time.
