@@Covid-me1xf I used a USB pump, similar to the one in the video. It is not loud. The sound of dripping water drowns out the sound of the pump completely. But, my terrarium isn’t doing great. It’s staying too wet and the moss and other plants are suffering. I should have made a better false bottom so the water drains through faster and used a faster draining soul mix. Anyway, a fun project and will probably have another attempt in the future. I think a small area of a bigger terrarium with this feature would be easier. E.g. rain falling into a ‘pond’ that is fully separated from the rest of the build.

@@marieellis6084 my moss and plants stayed too wet, but with adequate experience and better selections than mine (e.g. varieties that are suitable for an aquarium) I am pretty sure you could run the rain constantly.

@@nathanmillard is there a certain thickness to the walls? The soil mixture that is used... I assume over time the roots of the plants will grow totally through it and become a total mass 🤔 i realize some plants have shallow root systems but plenty variety of aquarium plants ive seen with huge long roots

That's why choice of materials is so important. And maintenance, of course - removing dead plant matter especially. I think it would be even easier to make it bigger and add some springtails and some centipedes that can deal with the moisture to get a natural composting cycle going. You already have denitrifying bacteria in the clay balls to convert the poo into nitrates which subsequently fertilizes the water again so it doesn't lose all the nutrients as fast, encouraging plant growth. Honestly, if you just put some fertilizer into the water every week, you probably wouldn't even have to change water at all. Of course use distilled or reverse osmosis water in the first place and this could be pretty easy to maintain. Provided it's large enough to support a stable, subsistent miniature eco system, of course.

Bonjour , Nouveau sur le site , venant de l'aquariophilie , je voudrais apporter une précision sur le charbon Charbon actif (à partir d'os) ou le charbon domestique (vegetal) , il est bien connu que le charbon est excellent en effet (desodorisant , aseptisant , clarifiant , absorbant les métaux lourds , etc....) , mais si il est utilisé trop longtemps , il "relargue" les éléments qu'il a filtré ! Notre intérêt est donc de pouvoir le remplacer environ tous les mois pour en tirer les profits , sans les désagréments ! L'inclure dans le sol et le laisser en place me paraît donc une mauvaise idée ! Sauf si vous avez une cascade et une place pour sortir la pompe pour entretiens , auquel cas , vous pouvez en mettre dans un filet , autour du tuyau de remonté d'eau ! En remontant la pompe , vous pourrez changer le charbon .... Qu'en pensez vous , n'avez vous jamais eu de problèmes sur le long terme ? Peut être que les plantes sont moins sensibles que les poissons ? (Qui peuvent en mourir , les crevettes y étant encore plus sensibles !!! ) Peut être ne sert il plus à rien une fois qu'il a accumulé .... puis relargué ... devenant inerte ? En tous cas , je suis un peu étonné de son utilisation sous le sol !!! Merci de vos expérience ... 😉😎

Thank you so much! I don't keep the pump on for more than 6 hours a day. You can use pink fittonias or diastema affine, these are great colourful terrarium plants, but I'm not 100% sure that it'll be suitable for such setups.

@@langdiy @axzeralzane9799 Buchephelandra should be extremely well suited for this setup! Anubias will do great too, but they are not colorful. nana petite and other small leaved variants wont outgrow a wet terrarium though and you can have them under running water 24/7. Lots of aquariumplants that have an emerse growth will do fine!

tried to tagg you but it didnt seem to work. Have a look at buchephelandra! they're sold as aquariumplants but naturally grow in and on the sides of jungle streams and would do very well in a setup like this. they do fine under running water 24/7, as do a lot of other plants sold for aquariums. Have a look at aquariumplants that are grown emerse, all of them should be suitable.
