I have been tinkering with an idea to reuse some plastic bottles and some of the wood we have been clearing to make a simple water Catchment system - and it is finally finished! But does it work?

Brilliant idea! I love how you're using locally sourced wood. I've built things with it and it's absolutely uniquely beautiful and strong. Thanks for sharing

Great idea for a way to re-use\upcycle what woyld otherwise be trash and turn it into a practical & useful means of gathering "free" water! 👍🐻👍

Your idea is ingenious! loved watching the water dropping down into the catchment area.

You just gave me the idea. I have wanted to catch rain water a long time now but always think I have to do things in a big way. Well I’m excited to do something similar to this.. Thanks for the demonstration and I have tree limbs everywhere and I might make a mini scale one with small soda bottles just because I have a lot of them. Haha!

Only improvement/ suggestion is to get the actual barrel off the ground with blocks, rocks or something. I know if it’s in contact with the ground critters will tunnel under& create problems, but also every catchment system plans I’ve ever found hadsaid the container needs to be off the ground (without saying why). Otherwise, looks like a good starter system.

This is something to be made when the apocalypse hits and all there is are scraps of materials to use. Instead of screws, fasten the wood by using thin strips of the plastic bottle tied around the joints, then heated to tighten up. Otherwise, with the grid still up, just get yourself $3 worth of plastic drop cloth for painting and you're done in minutes.

Yes, but this works and I didn't have to buy anything extra for it that I didn't already have 😊

Could you just use a piece of tarp instead?
@ourbetterlife8010
@ourbetterlife8010 2 дня назад
I'm sure we could, but we didn't have a 'spare' tarp as we are using what we have elsewhere.

It's nice, but too much fancy work with cutting bottles, when you could just use any plain surface of foil, bag or any plastic really.
@ourbetterlife8010
@ourbetterlife8010 День назад
@@ms-ht1cj absolutely! Just decided to use what we had plenty of that would otherwise just be garbage.

Please make a safer non-PET or no-plastic version with non-porous stand that lasts longer than this version someday.
