Thanks! Ive often thought of making an atlatl but I already make bows. Then I watched your video! This would be a fun project to do while camping. No need to obsess about perfection all the time! And Im sure this would teach me some stuff about relative altatl to dart lengths, etc.

Aha! Now I understand. Makes more sense now that I see someone make one like they no doubt originally made !! 😊

Adding weight to the head will 1) stabilize the flight and 2) extend the range by giving some inertia for the dart to compress against before release. And add fletching. Bird feathers and tree pitch if you want be all retro, but 1” plastic mini blinds and duct tape are quick, easy, and effective. Three looks better, but two at 180 degrees works fine and is quicker to place in the atlatl.

Very nice! Do research on technique on how to launch/ throw the dart. I think once you add fletching and find the correct balance and technique you will have an awesome weapon!!!!

He didn't need "to perfect" his aiming or throwing. He just needed! To add those two missing pieces to the long arrow

Nice work, that's a weapon you would need to practice a long time to get accurate. Good job building it.

Needs more weight on the front. Stone point would help. Handle also should be much shorter for that length of dart (spear). That will help the most.

Need to shorten the Atlatl it self till what ever spear your throwing is slightly tip heavy just a bit and then even without feathers it will then balance out and fly straight for a short distance anyway 10 yards or so and be much more accurate but over all great video dude

I like the atlatl simple easy but if you can find some kind of cane it would make a much better dart and make the dart longer too by about 3 foot

He did cut out and excellent handle and atlatl shaft but he forgot to add fletching to the end of that shaft. Including the "carving out" the point more pronounced! Or could've used medal as a substitute point

Fletching of birds feather is required

Or any thin material. I use 1" plastic mini blinds slats (just cut out a bottom slat from any overly-long blinds) and attach with package sealing tape. Quick, easy, very uniform.

Put some weight on the front of that spear. The dam thing wont go anywhere without it.
